Race 3 RORY JAMES: Bled (3 Month) to include 27/7/04
RACE 1: DAVE & LOLA WEBSTER CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1000M
Stable representative Tina Godfrey reported that RUSSIAN MELODY had struck its head in the stable overnight and had sustained a slight injury to the poll. Following a vet inspection the gelding was passed fit to start.
SAUVETERRE balked and blundered on jumping dislodging rider J Starr. Connections of SAUVETERRE were advised a warning would be placed on the mare.
Making the home turn the rider less horse improved to the inside of SUMI PRINCESS and shifted out hampering both SUMI PRINCESS and ARCOT wider on the track.
RACE 2: GALLIPOLI QTIS CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1000M
As R Graham was unable to claim his full allowance he was charged under AR92 and fined to sum of $100.
JUNGLE ACTION jumped away very awkwardly.
MISS CROCKETT was tightened for room and lost considerable ground at the start between PRAIRIE FOX, which shifted in and IRONIC, which shifted out.
SONGS OF MAGIC was hampered and lost ground at the start between OCTOSON (NZ), which shifted in and SWELL KING, which shifted out.
Apprentice C Thompson was reprimanded for allowing her mount, MALCHOW, to shift in leaving the 600m taking OCTOSON (NZ) in onto PHAROS CROWN, which was forced to check and lose ground.
Making the home turn, IRONIC was hampered and taken wider on the track when MALCHOW shifted out to obtain clear running.
Trainer C Smith and rider R Graham were questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of MISS CROCKETT. Mr Smith stated that last start at Roma the horse had drawn well and appeared to not handle racing inside other horses at tight proximity. He stated that in todays event and two starts ago at Charleville the horse performed well when allowed to drop out last and run on. Stewards confirmed that this was the pattern of the filly’s performance at Charleville and the explanation was accepted.
RACE 3: J & J PRODUCE MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M
NUG’S PRIDE sustained an injury en-route to the track and following a vet examination was declared a late scratching at 12:55pm.
WATERED DOWN reared as the start was affected losing considerable ground.
RORY JAMES was tightened for room on jumping between ANCA INDE, which shifted out and GARNI, which shifted in.
ANCA INDE hung in through out.
RORY JAMES bled during the event. Connections were advised that the gelding would be barred for a period of 3 month to conclude 24th July and would be required to gallop 1000m to the satisfaction of stewards prior to next start.
RACE 4: XXXX GOLD OPEN H'CAP – 1200M
SELF TITLED was slow to begin and was forced to race wide through out.
FYWICK STORY was held up for clear running making the home turn.
RACE 5: CRAIGLEA-MARR’S MATILDA HIGHWAY SERIES CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1200M
As Apprentice R Graham was unable to claim on his mount SOLAR DANCER, connections elected to replace him with Apprentice C Gilby. Stewards took this into consideration when assessing penalty and fined Apprentice R Graham $50 under AR92.
SWEET CITY SIOUX was tightened for room and lost ground on jumping between SUNRISE ROAD and PLANETS, which blundered on jumping and was taken in by BIG JACK, which jumped awkwardly.
Leaving the 1000m, MALBERRY HILL was tightened for room and lost ground when racing to the inside of HECTOROSA, which was taken in by ADAM’S ANT, which hung in slightly.
HECTOROSA blundered and lost considerable ground approaching the 800m when tightened for room between ADAM’S ANT, which was taken in slightly by the improving SWEET CITY SIOUX and FLYING KWILA, which was racing greenly to the inside after resenting the dirt being kicked back. FLYING KWILA continued to race erratically until entering the straight.
SOLAR DANCER was held up for clear running making the home turn.
RACE 6: PRIMAC ELDERS CLASS 6 H'CAP – 1400M
A Vet inspection of DARK EMPEROR, which was showing signs of a virus, found that the horse was unfit to race and was declared a late scratching at 1:10pm.
MOONSTRIKE jumped with its head in the air and lost ground, in doing so hampered CITY GAMBLER, which then commenced to race with its head in the air for a short distance.
ALL WINNERS WERE SWABBED.
