RACE: 1. Queen Of The Congo (L McCoy) jumped in the air as the gates opened. Fireworks (S Nolen) jumped inward coming into contact with Saw A Simone (S Katsidis). At the start Shy On Manners (A Lane) which was taken out by Deshane (T Watson) which jumped outward, made heavy contact with Akthar (S Shield). Approaching the 850 metres Expiyallahdoshus (R Kerwin) which was taken in by Macaroney (G Geran) which was racing greenly, made contact with Akthar. Akthar raced fiercely in the middle stages, being eased from heels on a number of occasions. Trainer T Stewart was advised that Stewards are placing a warning on the gelding. Macaroney hung out from the 700 metres until the home straight. Jockey T Watson (Deshane) was cautioned for permitting his mount to shift out near the 300 meters when insufficiently clear of Akthar resulting in Akthar having to be eased. Time off 12.32 PM.
RACE: 2. Moet Miss (N Tomizawa) which was fractious was slowly away. Navarra Rambler (A Lane) jumped awkwardly and out coming into contact with Xyna (J Piper). At the start Prince Monarco (M Aspinall) which was taken out by Mac’s Response (S Nolen) which jumped outward, made contact with Century Express (D Craven). Near the 550 metres Just Vague (S Katsidis) was steadied when Century Express shifted out. Near the 300 metres Moet Miss was steadied when Navarra Rambler shifted out. When questioned about the disappointing performance of Just Vague Jockey S Katsidis stated that the gelding did not travel well at any stage and was a beaten horse 1000 metres from home. A subsequent Veterinary inspection of Just Vague revealed that the gelding had an elevated heart rate and a very slow recovery. Trainer A Doyle was advised that he would require a Veterinary clearance and an E C G for the gelding prior to his next start. Time off 1.08 PM.
RACE: 3. Jet Soon (J Baker) jumped awkwardly. Shortly after the start Alphafun (J Starr) shifted out coming into contact with Take Me Bebe (N Tomizawa). Approaching the 600 metres Alphafun which was racing keenly shifted out forcing Take Me Bebe wider on the track. Approaching the home turn Native Son (D Craven) whilst racing between Deal The Queens (J Piper) and Take Me Bebe was steadied when both shifted ground. On the home turn Snappy Hula (J Warrington) shifted out forcing Roman Sha (M Aspinall) wider on the track. Near the 100 metres Native Son (D Craven) had to change course when Irish Flash (G Lynch) shifted out under pressure. G Lynch was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground. Jockey D Craven was accidentally struck across the right hand by the whip of J Starr in the home straight. D Craven was subsequently stood by the Ambulance officer from fulfilling his commitment in race 4. Time off 1.44 PM.
RACE: 4. Stewards inquired into the reason Apprentice J Piper was declared as the rider for I Used To Dream and Skilbunctions. After taking evidence from J Piper, his master A Jenkinson and Trainer A Doyle. Stewards adjourned the inquiry so as Jockey manager T Lanskey could be interviewed. Jockey A Lane (Kingpin) replaced D Craven. Nastasi (J Baker), Skilbunctious and Brave Words (S Nolen) were slowly away. At the start I Used To Dream (J Piper) which was taken out by Dippermouth (M Dorrington) which jumped awkwardly, hampered Toodaloo (G Geran). Lyons Street (R Kerwin) which was reluctant to jumped on terms shifted out abruptly shortly after almost dislodging his rider. Trainer D Burns was advised that the filly was required to Barrier Trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior of her next start. Jockey S Killen (Kwila Spirit) was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in near the 800 metres when not sufficiently clear of Arganautika (T Watson) resulting in that horse being eased. Brave Words, which was racing to the inside of and behind Arganautika had to be eased in the incident. Leaving the 600 metres Brave Words was again eased when racing to the inside of Toodaloo. Kwila Spirit was held up for clear running over the concluding stages. Toodaloo, which was inclined to shift in once placed under pressure, shifted in approaching the finish coming into contact with Angelah Moon (R Goltz). Dippermouth raced greenly throughout. When questioned about the disappointing performance of Brave Words Apprentice S Nolen stated that after being slowly away he had to eased his mount on two occasions and she was inclined to race greenly, explanation noted. Time off 2.21 PM.
RACE: 5. Jockey D Craven was examined by the Medical officer and was cleared to ride. Electrical Storm (S Nolen) jumped outward making heavy contact with the gate. Golden Run (R Kerwin) which jumped inward making heavy contact with the gate blundered near the 550 metres. At the start Game King (D Green) was hampered by Turkul (J Piper) which jumped outward. Zangief (L McCoy) dipped on jumping. Bettana (N Tomizawa) which hung out throughout was taken in over the concluding stages by Game King. Time off 3.00 PM.
RACE: 6. Apprentice T Hill who failed to arrive on course by the required time was replaced by N Tomizawa (St. Bevo). T Hill will be interviewed at a later date. Road Of Promise (R Kerwin) was reluctant to load. Trainer G Smith was advised that Stewards are placing a warning on the mare. Truly Miss Truly (M Babb) jumped outward making contact with Signbah (J Piper). Superb Ring (S Katsidis) and Bengal Flyer (S Apthorpe) made contact on jumping. St. Bevo which was held up for clear running in the home straight shifted out approaching the finish coming into contact with High Valour (J Stephens). Time off 3.42 PM.
RACE: 7. Majikarl (R Kerwin) which made contact with the gate post whilst being led onto the track was inspected by the Veterinary surgeon on arriving at the barrier and was cleared to start. No Intention (D Craven) was reluctant to load. Trainer P Duff was advised that the gelding was required to pass a Barrier jumpout prior to his next start. Golden Eye (S Katsidis) jumped awkwardly. Blakehurst (R Goltz) which jumped awkwardly was hampered shortly after by No Intention, which shifted out. Shortly after the start Majikarl was hampered by Cronick (J Stanley) which shifted out. Approaching the 800 metres No Intention was taken in by Roman News (M Aspinall which was taken in by Harvey Lad (A Lane). Shortly after Blakehurst was steadied when crowded for room by Scenic Flight (G Duffy). Approaching the home turn Blakehurst was steadied when crowded for room by No Intention which rolled in. On the point of the home turn Roman News which was taken out by Latin Poet (A Pattillo) made heavy contact with the hinquarters of Scenic Flight. Time off 4.22 PM.
RACE: 8. Grand Aspect was withdrawn on Veterinary advice at 8.20 AM. Bally Robyn (N Tomizawa) which became very fractious when placed in the barriers was withdrawn on Veterinary advice at 5.02 PM. Deductions on all win bets were paid less 12 cents in the $1 win and 12 cents in the $1 place. Trainer J Bannon was advised that the mare was required to pass a Barrier jumpout prior to her next start. Premonition (S Killen) jumped awkwardly. Shortly after the start Matter Of Time (G Geran) was steadied when Allez Jagaan (L Cronan) shifted in. Briar’s Army (A Lane) was inclined to shift in over the concluding stages. Approaching the finish Matter Of Time shifted out and then shifted back in abruptly. Plum’s Gamble (A Morrison) hung out from the 800 metres making the home turn wide. Trainer A Marshall was advised that the gelding was required to Barrier Trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to his next start. Time off 5.03 PM.
RACE: 9. Mayne Le Sober (N Tomizawa) jumped outward coming into contact with Fun Times (D Kelly). Calling (S Nolen) jumped outward. Mayne Le Sober had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight. Time off 5.40 PM.
All winners were swabbed.
Jockey Tad Pattillo was fined the sum of $100 for bidding on the Calcutta, which was conducted on the Newmarket handicap.
3/03/00. Apprentice T Hill was fined the sum of $100 for failing to fulfil his engagement on St. Bevo at the Dalby meeting on 2/03/00.
