WEATHER - FINE TRACK - DEAD RAIL - TRUE POSITION

RACE 1: BLACKJACK H’CAP - 1350M.

BINTANG, ANTIQUITY and CASUAL BAY were a little slow to begin.

G. O’Sullivan, rider of FORGOTTEN HERO, accidentally dropped his whip near the 200m..

A veterinary examination of THE NORTH, which raced disappointingly, failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 2: CLUB CONRAD SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H’CAP - 1200M.

NAZARETH, THE WRECK and PRINCELY POWER were all slow to begin.

LORD ALANNON raced fiecrely throughout the middle stages.

After travelling 100m., TITTLE TAT had to be steadied off the heels of SLIDING DOWNHILL, which hung in. SLIDING DOWNHILL continued to hang in and race ungenerously in the run to the first turn.

Approaching the 100m., PRIDE AND POWER had to be steadied to avoid the heels of OAMARU RHYTHM, which at that stage shifted back to the inside to obtain a run inside PORT CALL.

At the winning post, TITTLE TAT, THE WRECK, PRINCELY POWER and CHAMBA were all tightened for room between JIBAILI and SLIDING DOWNHILL, both of which shifted ground slightly.

When questioned regarding the performance of JIBAILI, J. Cassidy stated that after jumping away awkwardly the gelding failed to muster anticipated early speed, and subsequently did not travel well at any stage when caught wide. He added also that the gelding did not feel comfortable in the going. A veterinary examination of JIBAILI failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 3: CONRAD INTERNATIONAL HOTEL SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES - 1200M.

Trainer B. Squair was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for SAW MILL SALLY by the prescribed time.

Prior to the start, SHALT NOT got its leg over the rail partition near the 1350m.. The filly was examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

SAW MILL SALLY jumped inwards at the start, hampering SOPHIE’S GOLD and CROCODILE.

When being steadied on the first turn, ZOMP got its head up and ran out across the heels of TANGO MUSIC.

Near the 100m., SOPHIE’S GOLD had to be checked when attempting a run to the inside of the tiring TRES RAPIDE where there was insufficient room.

When questioned, D. Kelly stated that SANTRENO LASS was quite fractious in the barriers. He added that after beginning only fairly, the filly commenced to muster speed approaching the first turn, however when SAW MILL SALLY was taken out by BANYAN BAY at the 900m., SANTRENO LASS struck trouble and became unbalanced. He added that from this stage the filly’s action changed noticeably and it was reluctant to stretch out to the point where he eased her out of the event in the straight. A veterinary examination of SANTRENO LASS revealed the filly to have sustained a small laceration behind the off knee, and a small laceration and bruising to the inside of the near fore cannon. A swab sample was taken from SANTRENO LASS. Trainer P. McLeod indicated he would recommend to connections that SANTRENO LASS be sent for an immediate spell.

RACE 4: JOE RICHARDS MENSWEAR DOOMBEN CLASSIC SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES - 1615M.

An inquiry was opened into BLACK BEAN being presented into the enclosure without a lead bag. It was established that M. Cahill, after weighing out for his ride on BLACK BEAN, handed his gear to trainer G. Ryan without the small lead bag which had been included in the scale. This necessitated M. Cahill having to be reweighed and BLACK BEAN resaddled, which delayed the running of this race. Subsequently M. Cahill pleaded guilty to a breach of AR8(e), in that his negligence could have lead to a breach of the rules. M. Cahill was fined the sum of $400.

RUSTY STORM shifted out soon after the start, hampering BLACK BEAN and tightening BLUDASH onto the hind quarters of CONFER.

HUGE JET also jumped outwards at the start, making contact with CHEMICAL BROTHER.

At the 1100m., when the leader HUGE JET slackened the pace, AMNESIA had to be restrained off that horse’s heels. As a consequence, FIGUREHEAD also had to be steadied, and CONFER, which was trailing that horse, had to be severely checked. RUSTY STORM in turn shifted out away from CONFER and bumped VATULELE.

When shifting out to improve near the 600m., CONFER made contact with BLACK BEAN, resulting in those horses buffeting for some distance. BET ON A RODE, which was racing to the outside of BLACK BEAN, had to be steadied at this stage.

Approaching the home turn, VATULELE race awkwardly at the heels of CHEMICAL BROTHER when taken out slightly by BLACK BEAN.

Nearing the 100m., KING SALIERI brushed the hind quarters of DASH OF BAY.

AMNESIA had difficulty obtaining clear running in the straight.
RACE 5: MOET & CHANDON CHAIRMAN’S H’CAP - 2020M.

At the winning post on the first on the first occasion, NEVET got its head up and ran out across the heels of CRONUS.

When NEVET shifted ground on the first turn, EARS’ RONNY was taken wider on the track.

An inquiry will be held into interference suffered by SECOND COMING near the 1600m.. When SECOND COMING struck interference, SPYING and LUTHER suffered some inconvenience. Stewards will also inquire into the reason for B. Stewart (GENE’S INTEREST) and B. Stanley (FUSS) leaving the course without stewards’ permission.

Approaching the 200m., SPYING made contact with IRON HORSE when attempting to find clear running.

A veterinary examination of NEVET revealed that gelding to have sustained a laceration to the inside of the off hind leg, and that SECOND COMING had opened an old wound to the near hind heel.

RACE 6: CASINO REWARDS SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H’CAP - 2020M.

On return to scale, a protest was lodged by L. Cassidy, rider of the 3rd placegetter, TWYLA, against ROYAL REPLY being declared the 2nd placegetter, alleging interference near the 400m.. It was established that at the 400m., TWYLA made contact with the hind quarters of ROYAL REPLY, which caused that horse to become unbalanced. Soon afterwards, ROYAL REPLY shifted out, hampering TWYLA. Given the circumstances, stewards dismissed the objection and confirmed the Judge’s placings.

ROTOR jumped outwards at the start, hampering JAVASIANG.

After jumping away awkwardly, ELEGANT BEAUTY was cramped for room soon after between CURIO JADE and DRAMA QUEEN.

Leaving the 1600m., ROSE OF TRALEE was momentarily cramped for room by ELEGANT BEAUTY.

Trainer J. Poletti reported that ROYAL REPLY was sore in the near fore leg following the event. A veterinary certificate of fitness will be required for that filly prior to its next race start.

RACE 7: TREASURY CASINO 10,000 - 1350M.

On return to scale, a protest was lodged by J. Byrne, rider of the 2nd placegetter, ADAM, against LAURIE’S LOTTERY being declared the winner, alleging interference over the final 150 metres. Whilst it was established that LAURIE’S LOTTERY shifted in and brushed ADAM nearing the 50 metres, stewards were of the view that this incident had not materially effected the result and therefore the protest was dismissed.

Approaching the 1000m., PIMPALA PRINCE had to be steadied off the heels of CHIEF DE BEERS, which shifted in. L. Dittman, rider of CHIEF DE BEERS, was reminded of his obligations to be 2 lengths clear when shifting ground.

At the 300m., the tiring WYNCITI shifted in and made contact with STAGING.

Passing the 200m., CORPORATE JAMES was disappointed for a run to the ourtside of WYNCITI, which shifted out whilst tiring. ROSE O’ WAR was also hampered at this stage.

A veterinary examination of PIMPALA PRINCE, which tailed off, failed to reveal any abnormality.

A swab sample was taken from the second placegetter, ADAM.

RACE 8: BACCARAT H’CAP - 1350M.

Due to the protest in race 7, the starting time for this race was rescheduled to 4.53 p.m..

As B. Stewart was indisposed, B. Compton was substituted as the rider of WHERE’S THE MAGIC. .

Apprentice M. Gray, rider of BATON, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that approaching the 1100m. he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount shifting ground at a stage when not clear of DRIFTWOOD FLIGHT, which resulted in that horse shifting in onto LUCKY RAID, causing that horse to shift in and severely crowd the racing room of CONNATE PLUS and ALFRED THE GREAT, which struck the fence. MARAUDING ROGUE, which was following, shifted out to avoid the aforementioned incident, resulting in WHERE’S THE MAGIC being taken out on to the hind quarters of TOBOLSK. M. Gray was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to expire at midnight, 28 May 1999.

LUCKY RAID tended to race ungenerously on the first turn whilst being restrained. CONNATE PLUS, which was racing to the inside of that horse, again suffered some tightening.

Leaving the 600m., ALFRED THE GREAT had to be steadied off the heels of CONATE PLUS, which shifted out to improve. CONNATE PLUS continued to shift out, which resulted in TARANTULA being taken out on to the hind quarters of CAUTIOUS SPIRIT.

WHERE’S THE MAGIC had difficulty obtaining clear running in the straight.

ALL WINNERS, SANTRENO LASS, ADAM WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
