BRISBANE TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT WED.7.7.99

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr J. Hackett (Chairman); Mr D. Griffiths; Mr G. Ireland; Mr T. Bailey; Mr C. Clifford; Mr D. Hooper (Cadet).

WEATHER – FINE TRACK – HEAVY RAIL – TRUE POSITION

GENERAL

Apprentice A. Morrison was fined $200 for failing to wear his body protector whilst riding trackwork at Doomben on 6 July 1999.


RACE 1: MERCY CENTRE H’CAP – 1350M.

On jumping, SOUFFLE was tightened for room between ARIANA and FISH FOR TEA.

FISH FOR TEA made contact with the hind quarters of SOUFFLE shortly after the start and became unbalanced.

Approaching the 1200m., MAGIC POET was tightened for room between WALK THE WALK and ARIANA when both horses shifted ground marginally.

L. Hill reported that ARIANA was not suited by the slow pace in the early and middle stages.

Approaching the finish line, WALK THE WALK shifted out abruptly, inconveniencing STAR NOIR.


RACE 2: COOROY BOWLS CLUB H’CAP – 1350M.

GOLDEN BRIDGE jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, tightening MENACING, which was a little slow to jump.

When being straightened approaching the 1200m., MIGHTY PLAY shifted out and made heavy contact with WE SHALL DANCE, which in turn shifted out and hampered STAR ACADEMY.

After passing the 800m., MENACING shifted out, taking MIGHTY PLAY wider on the track.


RACE 3: FERNY GROVE NATIONAL SENIORS H’CAP – 1010M.

VIKING PRINCE was slow to begin.

Approaching the 800m. when C. Reith straightened, BOOMDEAY to prevent a tightening to BROAD GRIN, BOOMDEAY shifted out and PLAY STATION had to be restrained to avoid the heels of BOOMDEAY and lost valuable ground. INDIAN FRED, which was trailing, was checked in consequence. SIR RAIMONDO, which was racing to the outside of PLAY STATION, also had to be steadied and shifted out, making contact with the hind quarters of RETIRE.

PLAY STATION cast its near hind plate in running.


RACE 4: MONTROSE LADIES COMMITTEE H’CAP – 1010M.

Trainer N.Stephens was fined $25 for presenting SERA DANZA to the enclosure without blinkers.

ASTRO DASH was a late scratching at 1.20 p.m. when the connections failed to produce the Document of Description and barrier certificate for the filly.

GREAT SMILE reared and lost ground at the start.

CROCODILE shifted out at the start, hampering BELLA ANGEL and WHIPPED.

Approaching the 800m., AUGUST BAMBINA, which was racing in restricted room inside SERA DANZA, had a tendency to hang in and hamper ASSURE. A short distance later, SERA DANZA shifted in, when tightened by DANE BEAUTY, further tightening AUGUST BAMBINA and resulting in ASSURE being checked. Whilst stewards conceded that ASSURE initially was placed in restricted room by AUGUST BAMBINA and SERA DANZA, apprentice C. Maund, rider of DANE BEAUTY, was nonetheless severely reprimanded for failing to allow sufficient room when crossing.

After leaving the 800m., SUNDAY MATTENS raced ungenerously and had a tendency to hang out.

Following the event, M. Pelling reported that ZIP, which raced disappointingly, hung out in the middle stages.

When questioned concerning the seemingly disappointing performance of SILHOETTES, J. Byrne explained that the horse was not comfortable in the prevailing conditions. A veterinary examination of SILHOETTES failed to reveal any abnormality.


RACE 5: OFFICE OF STATE REVENUE H’CAP – 1615M.

MINATOM and NORMAN STORMIN’ were slow to begin.


RACE 6: CARLTON H’CAP – 1350M.

BOLD GAUL and LIGHT FUSE were slow to begin.

Near the 1000m., LIGHT FUSE commenced to overrace and shifted out, forcing COBB ‘N’ CO across the heels of TERTIARY.

It was noted that LIGHT FUSE and COBB ‘N’ CO were held up rounding the home turn and for some distance in the straight.

BOLD GAUL was also held up in the early stages of the straight and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of the tiring GOLD HYPE.

Near the 100m., OUT ON was disappointed for a run between ICE PATROL and TERTIARY, which shifted in.

COBB ‘N’ CO had a tendency to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.

A veterinary examination of GOLD HYPE following the event revealed the gelding to have sustained a laceration above the near hock due to being galloped on.


RACE 7: TREASURY CASINO DOOMBEN H’CAP – 1010M.

FIXED ACCOUNT was slow to begin.

BETTER TALLY and GRAEME’S CHOICE came together on jumping away.

SULI began awkwardly and made contact with TODMAN COLOURS, which shifted in, contacting PRINCE NATHAN.

TEAGUN’S DREAM and OUR SILVER LINING came together at the start.

SEA DANDY commenced to hang out leaving the 800m. and ran wide.

M. Privato, rider of CHARBIS, was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in near the 800m., causing BETTER TALLY to be tightened for room.

Shortly after entering the straight, OWNER OPERATOR shifted out and hampered SULI.

C. Small’s (DEEP TAN) whip broke near the 200m..


RACE 8: COURIER MAIL H’CAP – 1350M.

APSARAS was slow to begin.

PRINCESS ACADEMY and KRONA LEAH came together at the start.

Approaching the 1200m., MATIYA became unbalanced in the going and shifted in, hampering VAIN NEDIYM, FORT OF SILVER and BISITA.

VAIN NEDIYM had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MATIYA, which shifted in making the first turn.

Approaching the home turn, SHE’S A NATURAL shifted out and bumped the hind quarters of PRINCESS ACADEMY, which was taken out on to VAIN NEDIYM.

Approaching the 200m., SHE’S A NATURAL, when shifting out to improve, brushed FORT OF SILVER.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
