On return to scale, a protest was lodged by M. It was established as STONY GROVE attempted to improve to the outside of ROADWAY on the home turn, ROADWAY shifted simultaneously, obliging M. Pelling to alter course. In respect of this incident, stewards were satisfied STONY GROVE had not obtained rightful running to the ourtside of ROADWAY before that horse shifted. Whilst it was further established that STONY GROVE and ROADWAY brushed near the 50m., it was found that ROADWAY at this stage had shifted in very slightly and that the significant movement had been from STONY GROVE shifting away from ROMANZA. The protest was therefore dismissed.

J. Stanley was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings to expire at midnight, 17 November 1999. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account J. Stanley had, during a riding career spanning in excess of 600 rides, incurred only one careless riding suspension, which occurred approximately 2 years ago.
