WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - OUT 7M. ALL TRACK
GENERAL: Bookmaker P. Marr was fined $100 for employing an unregistered clerk (LR 118)
RACE 1: BLACK TOYOTA DALBY H'CAP - 1110M.
As J. Pollard was indisposed, M. Paget was subsituted as the rider of RECOMMEND.
EXQUISITE LASS, which was examined by the club's veterinary officer behind the barrier and found to have blood in its mouth as a result of a laceration to its jaw, was passed fit to race.
MAKIN' TRACKS jumped awkwardly.
SUZY GREY was slow to begin.
In the early stages of the straight, SUZY GREY was disappointed for a run between KISS ME and WHIRLIGIG, and as a result had to alter course to the outside to obtain clear running.
Over the concluding stages, MOSES DRIVER had to be restrained off the heels of MISCELLANEA.
RACE 2: WESTERN 4X4 NORTHGATE H'CAP - 1030M.
As G. Killen was indisposed, B. Stewart was substituted as the rider of MILL PRINCE.
CORONATION WAYS was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon on arrival at the track and passed fit to run.
ACE COOL was slow to begin.
After travelling 50m., CORONATION DAY had to be checked when tightened for room between FOOLING and SCORSESE, which shifted in and away from SIGNBAH.
Approaching the first turn, SCORSESE had to be steadied off the heels of SIGNBAH, which shifted in. ROMANTIC REGION, which was following, had to be steadied off the heels of SCORSESE in this incident. L. Harris, rider of SIGNBAH, was advised to exercise more care in future when shifting ground. ROMANTIC REGION then commenced to race fiercely and continued to do so until near the 600m..
Near the 300m., WESTERN TOLL attempted to improve to the outside of the heels of YANGAN LAD and in doing so made contact with MILL PRINCE.
FOOLING shifted out under pressure in the straight.
RACE 3: BLACK TOYOTA WARWICK H'CAP - 1350M.
AUSSIE MORNING jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
After leaving the 1200m., NARANGHI LASS had to be steadied off the heels of I'M APPEALING and as a result shifted in abruptly, forcing SEAHAWK MISS inwards.
Approaching the 550m., LOOSE LADY was hampered when tightened for room between DONNAFINA and MY FUNNY FACE, which shifted out. I'M APPEALING, which was following, had to be steadied off the heels of LOOSE LADY. M. Pelling, rider of MY FUNNY FACE, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
Approaching the home turn, SEAHAWK MISS and AUSSIE MORNING made contact due to SEAHAWK MISS shifting out.
RACE 4: AMBASSADOR MOTOR INN H'CAP - 1350M.
NEDIYM'S MEASURE was slow to begin.
After leaving the 900m., MOVING VIOLATION pulled hard when being restrained off the heels of LORD BUZZ.
M. Cahill, rider of DANAWIRA, was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in appraoching the 1200m. resulting in SOLAR RANCH having to be steadied.
J. Stanley, rider of METAL MERCHANT, was reprimanded for permitting his mouint to shift in near the 1100m., tightening the running of DANAWIRA and PARIS TRIUMPH and resulting in RIDGEPORT having to be steadied off the heels of BIG TIME.
J. Byrne, rider of MOVING VIOLATION, was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in approaching the 1000m., resulting in BIG TIMER being tightened on to the running rail and having to be steadied.
J. Byrne, rider of MOVING VIOLATION, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift out on the home turn when insufficiently clear of DANAWIRA resulting in that horse having to be checked. J. Bryne was suspended for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 29 January, and to expire at midnight, 6 February 2000. KAAPSTAR and SOLAR RANCH, which were following, were hampered in this incident. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account J. Byrne's good race riding record.
NEDIYM'S MEASURE had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.
PARIS TRIUMPH lost its near fore plate in running, and RIDGE PORT cast its near fore plate in running.
RACE 5: BLACK TOYOTA ROMA H'CAP - 1640M.
As G. Palmer was to be overweight, M. Paget was substituted as the rider of ROY BOY. G. Palmer was fined $50 for accepting a ride when found to be overweight.
M. Carson, rider of ROMANTIC SON, was found guilty of a charged of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift in approaching the 1400m. when not clear of FRONT ROW, which in turn was taken in on to FIELD GOAL and resulting in DISTANCE, which was racing to the inside of FIELD GOAL, having to be checked. M. Carson was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at the expiration of the suspension currently being served, and to expire at midnight, 17 February 12000.
ROMANTIC SON shifted out after leaving the 1400m., forcing CHAPPEL DANCER wider on the track.
RACE 6: BLACK TOYOTA - FLEET SALES H'CAP - 1030M.
REVENUE RAISER was slow to begin and raced ungenerously in the middle stages.
Making the home turn, RAPA NUI had to be steadied when briefly tightened for room by CINNAMON COVE.
Close to the finish line, N. Day was obliged to stop riding SIRTATT due to his mount shifting ground slightly, inconveniencing CINNAMON COVE.
M. Paget reported that whilst CINNAMON COVE had finished just behind the placegetters, he was nonetheless disappointed with the gelding's effort as it had been working well leading up to today's event. A veterinary examination of CINNAMON COVE failed to reveal any abnormality and a swab sample was taken.
RACE 7: BLACK TOYOTA AUSTRALIA DAY PLATE SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES - 1350M.
On return to scale, a protest was lodged by B. Stewart, rider of the 3rd placegetter, ROSE OF GLADFIELD, against BOSTON being declared the the 2nd placegetter, alleging interference over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the video, stewards deemed the protest frivolous and fined B. Stewart the sum of $100, and correct weight was semaphored.
MISS CORTONA stood flatfooted at the start, losing considerable groud. Trainer A. Bailey was advised he would be required to produce a barrier test certificate for MISS CORTONA prior to its next race start.
BOSTON was slow to begin.
Near the 1100m., CANADIAN COMET shifted in, tightening the running of APPAREL and ST. KATE.
Approaching the 1000m., when being restrained off the heels of BELLE OF SHEBA, ST. KATE shifted out and made contact with APPAREL on a number of occasions.
Approaching the 900m., when SNOW CHARIOT shifted out from the rails, CANADIAN COMET shifted out and away from that runner and then commenced to race ungenerously. APPAREL, which was following, had to be checked off the heels of CANADIAN COMET in this incident.
Making the first turn, KAREN'S WAY shifted out and made contact with BOSTON.
BOSTON shifted in under pressure after leaving the 100m., obliging its rider to straighten his mount near the 50m..
RACE 8: WESTERN 4X4 TOOMBUL ROAD H'CAP - 2230M.
Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, CHAMPAGNE SPRING shifted in, taking LET'S JIVE in on to IN THE FAST LANE, which resulted in IN THE FAST LANE becoming unbalanced and shifting in abruptly.
After leaving the 1600m., LET'S JIVE commenced to pull hard and had to be restrained off the heels of CHAMPAGNE SPRING and in doing so shifted in and made contact with BOLD IMPULSE.
Approaching the 700m., ARCHIDAMIA had to be steadied to avoid the heels of LORDNOR, which was racing in restricted room to the inside of LET'S JIVE.
Near the 500m., LORDNOR, which was pulling hard, improved inside IN THE FAST LANE and as a result shifted in, tightening the running of HANCOCK, which had to be checked.
Apprentice C. Maund pleaded not guilty to a charge of careless riding in that he permitted his mount to shift in on the home turn when not clear of IN THE FAST LANE, causing that gelding to be checked. LORDNOR was also briefly tightened in this incident. The inquiry was adjourned to Saturday, 29 January to allow apprentice C. Maund to be represented by his master.
Inside the 300m., MIRACLE JAKE had to be checked when tightened for room between IN THE FAST LANE, which shifted out slightly, and FREE MOVER, which was taken in by MAJESTIC HEIGHTS. C. Reith, rider of MAJESTIC HEIGHTS, was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care.
Close to the finish line, LORDNOR and BOLD IMPULSE brushed.
A veterinary examination of IN THE FAST LANE failed to reveal any abnormality and a swab sample was taken.
ALL WINNERS, CINNAMO COVE AND IN THE FAST LANE WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
I have a couple of points jotted down her - it's a very big occasion a 25th wedding anniversary and Ididn't want to miss any points. Before I start, just looking at Wayne here reminded me of something I thought about many years ago as a young kid, and that was when people had their 25th wedding anniversary I thought, gee that person must be old, the body must be just about had it, out of shape, looks gone, brain a bit addled - not much good for anything really. But now I look at Wayne on his 25th wedding anniv
