WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 9.5M. ALL TRACK

RACE 1: GLENLOGAN PARK STUD H'CAP - 1200M.

IN SINGAPORE, which jumped away awkwardly, lost ground at the start.

RACE 2: QBBS H'CAP - 1200M.

DEBBIE'S PRIDE and STARLIATA were both slow to jump.

M. Paget, rider of ANCIENT WARRIOR, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that approaching the 800m. he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of MATTY'S GIRL, resulting in that horse being checked and taken in on to EMMAKAY, which in turn had to be checked and shift out abruptly. M. Paget was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 26 February, and to expire at midnight, 9 March 2000.

Near the 800m., MATTY'S GIRL and CHICKIE had to be checked when racing to the inside of ANCIENT WARRIOR. An inquiry will be held into this incident.

After leaving the 600m., CARAMEL STAR was buffeted between BOSSY LADY and MISCELLANEA, both of which shifted ground slightly.

Rounding the home turn, MISCELLANEA shifted in making contact with CARAMEL STAR.

It was noted that MISCELLANEA was obliged to race wide for the major portion of the race.

RACE 3: APRA OVER 50'S H'CAP - 1200M.

OPERA LANCE was slow to begin.

GALACTIC ROMEO and DISCIPLINE brushed at the start.

Approaching the first turn, OPERA LANCE was inclined to pull hard and had a tendency to race ungenerously in the middle stages.

KENCONCARNE was inclined to shift in under pressure over the concluding stages.

RACE 4: COURIER MAIL H'CAP - 1040M.

Approaching the 900m., HOT CHANCE had to be steadied when racing in restricted room between ZOOMSTER and GAY REVENGER.

Nearing the finish line, PARLOUR GAMES shifted out under pressure, hampering HOT CHANCE.

INCH lost its off hind plate in running.

RACE 5: API RETIRED OFFICERS CLUB H'CAP - 1650M.

FRISKY STAR, which was kicked on the near shoulder at the barriers, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

MEDIEVAL MAESTRO and UNCLE GWYDIR were both slow to begin.

Rounding the home turn, HUNER'S DREAM was tightened onto the hind quarters of CORONATION SPY when MEDIEVAL MAESTRO attempted to shift ground to improve.

NIGE was held up for clear running for some distance after entering the straight.

MAY ROYAL, which was caught wide in the early stages and obliged to race 4 wide, compounded over the concluding stages.

Stewards questioned trainer J. Fitzgerald and J. Byrne concerning the contrast in riding tactics adopted today on FRISKY STAR as compared to the manner in which the horse had been ridden in previous starts. J. Byrne explained that after jumping well, he had intended to take a trail midfield as instructed, however racing towards the first turn the gelding was caught 4 wide and commenced to overrace near the 1300m. and refused to settle. J. Byrne stated that FRISKY STAR overraced for some distance thereafter and felt that this had an effect on its performance. Trainer J. Fitzgerald confirmed the connections' instructions to ride the horse midfield and was of the opinion it was not suited after being caught wide early and overracing throughout the middle stages. J. Fitzgerald further indicated he would endeavour to rectify the horse's racing manners with alterations to the horse's gear.

RACE 6: CARLTON & UNITED BREWERIES H'CAP - 2250M.

BORRACHERA jumped away awkwardly and lost ground at the start.

SIR KRAMER commenced to pull hard racing towards the winning post on the first occasion, and then continued to pull hard rounding the first turn and had to be checked off the heels of BUGATTI on several occasions.

FORT OF SILVER made the crossing on the turn out of the straight awkwardly.

Approaching the 1200m., SIR KRAMER again had to be checked off the heels of BUGATTI, which was also inclined to race fiercely, shifted in, causing FORT OF SILVER to be severely checked. At an inquiry, apprentice Tomizawa, rider of SIR KRAMER, stated that due to the pattern of the race, SIR KRAMER raced ungenerously when the pace was slow. After taking into account the racing characteristics of SIR KRAMER, stewards took no action other than to advise apprentice Tomizawa to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Making the turn into the back straight, CERTAIN SOUND shifted out, forcing BORRACHERA wider on the track.

Near the 300m., BAY OF TIME became unbalanced when racing in restricted room inside of TOP KALA, which shifted in to avoid the heels of the tiring CERTAIN SOUND. In this incident, BAY OF TIME struck the running rail.

The club's veterinary surgeon reported that FORT OF SILVER had sustained a small laceration to the near fore cannon.

CHIVALRY, which haemorrhaged from both nostrils during the event, was declared ineligible to race for a period of 3 months. A swab sample was taken from CHIVALRY.

RACE 7: TREASURY CASINO DOOMBEN WELTER H'CAP - 1350M.

LATIN QUARTER, TANANDA and ANGEL DARKNESS were tightened for room between UNCLE JAMES and BERN RETURN when both horses shifted ground at the start.

Near the 1100m., BERN RETURN shifted in and momentarily tightened LATIN QUARTER. N. Jolly, rider of BERN RETURN, was instructed to exercise more care when shifting ground.

N. Jolly, rider of BERN RETURN, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts right out to the finish line.
