WEATHER – FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - OUT 10.5M ALL TRACK

FROM QTC 13.03.00 (RACE 2: BORE HEAD H’CAP): Mr R Catherall, the representative for trainer L Freedman, reported today that PRAIRIE DOWNS was further examined after its poor performance and underwent an endoscopic examination which revealed symptoms of a virus developing. He further informed stewards that PRAIRIE DOWNS would now be sent for a spell.

RACE 1: COURIER-MAIL H'CAP - 2250M

After making the first turn LIVE IN FAITH shifted out when being steadied and hampered SIR KRAMER.

RACE 2: MOET & CHANDON H'CAP - 1110M

The start was delayed slightly when BALETE DRIVE, which was fractious, had to be removed from its barrier stall to enable the attendant to retrieve the lead which was accidentally dropped.

After travelling a short distance STYLISH EYES shifted in and brushed MISKARIMA.

Making the first turn ARTIST’S TOUCH, which was inclined to race ungenerously, shifted out across the heels of STYLISH EYES, and then continued to race ungenerously for some distance.

Near the 50m STYLISH EYES had to be checked when racing between SHRUG and OH BLUE ANGEL which shifted in. M Pelling, the rider of OH BLUE ANGEL, was instructed to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

RACE 3: CARLTON & UNITED BREWERIES H'CAP - 1110M

AMAIZCAY jumped away awkwardly.

OMBRA DELLA SERA had to be steadied momentarily rounding the first turn as a result of HERACLES shifting in.

IL CENTRO GOLD hung out near the 600m and also raced greenly over the concluding stages.

RACE 4: GLENLOGAN PARK H'CAP - 1200M

SPIRIT OF VENUS was a late scratching at 12.33 p.m. following advice from the veterinary surgeon that the horse had sustained lacerations when it injured itself in its raceday stall.

RACE 5: BTC H'CAP - 1200M

Leaving the 700m TONTORE had to be steadied off the heels of HUGE.

G Duffy, the rider of LUCKY TWIST, accidentally dropped his whip near the 100m.

ROADINSKY could not obtain clear running over the concluding stages of the race.

Just short of the finishing line TONTORE had to be steadied as a result of being tightened by HUGE and DASHING COURIER, which was inclined to shift away from SUPPLE.

RACE 6: TREASURY CASINO H'CAP - 1660M

Shortly after the start SOAP KING shifted out and tightened ACTRESS GRACE.

Stewards questioned trainer P Moody and jockey S Seamer concerning the seemingly disappointing performance of ZACUSHLA which raced below expectations and finished at the rear of the field. S Seamer explained that after being instructed to ride the horse near the lead, he pressed forward after the start, however rounding the first turn near the 1300m he was caught three wide and intended to go forward towards the lead. He explained that the horse was not travelling well enough and he elected to have the horse relax and sit three wide when unable to get any closer to the rail. S Seamer added that near the 700m ZACUSHLA commenced to race under pressure and compounded soon afterwards and was at a loss to explain the disappointing run. Trainer P Moody explained that the horse had pleased leading up to today’s event and agreed that the performance was well below expectations. A veterinary examination was carried out, however at the time of examination, the veterinary surgeon Dr Manahan could find no abnormalities and a swab sample was taken from ZACUSHLA. Trainer P Moody was instructed to notify the stewards of anything that may come to his attention in the days following the race which may have had any effect on the disappointing performance.

RACE 7: DOOMBEN WELTER - 1660M

PERISSA BAY was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon at the barriers and passed fit to start.

PERISSA BAY was slow to begin.

Rounding the first turn PALATINSKI KINGDOM was inclined to pull hard.

It was reported that PERISSA BAY cast its off fore plate in running.

RACE 8: FM 104 TRIPLE M H'CAP - 1350M

BISTRO MONEY was a little slow to jump.

Rounding the home turn SEA HARVEY shifted out making contact with ROCKET WHEEL, resulting in GREAT RELATIONS being taken wider.

Approaching the 100m BISTRO MONEY shifted out and hampered VIVO.

Near the finishing line HEART’S TREASURE had to be steadied when momentarily tightened between WENDY’S HOPE and RED QUARTER.

HEART’S TREASURE was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon following the race who reported that the horse had dislodged a tooth cap.

Trainer D Sutton was questioned concerning the seemingly improved performance of RED QUARTER in winning today as compared with its most recent start when it finished 10th at Murwillumbah on 24 February when beaten 12.8 lengths. Mr Sutton stated that his rider J Stanley reported that the horse failed to handle the track and had a tendency to hang out rounding the turns at Murwillumbah and felt that this may have been attributable to a previous injury to the horse’s fetlock. Mr Sutton added that in today’s race he felt the horse was better suited on the bigger track. Stewards noted the explanation.

ALL WINNERS AND ZACUSHLA WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
