RACE 6: BENGALLA LAD H'CAP - 1660M
On return to scale a protest was lodged by G Colless, the rider of 2nd placegetter MISS LUCIAN, against HAGAR THE HORRIBLE (G Duffy) being declared the winner, alleging interference making the first turn. After taking evidence from S Katsidis (OUR PRIME MOVER), G Colless and G Duffy and after viewing the video and taking further evidence from the steward Mr G Ireland who was stationed in the stand in the vicinity, stewards determined that HAGAR THE HORRIBLE had shifted in taking OUR PRIME MOVER in on to MISS LUCIAN, causing that horse to be severely checked. Given the degree of interference suffered by MISS LUCIAN and the subsequent ground lost in the incident, the stewards upheld the protest, bearing in mind the short neck margin which separated both horses at the finish. Subsequent to the protest hearing, G Duffy was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that he permitted his mount to shift in, taking OUR PRIME MOVER in on to MISS LUCIAN which had to be checked. In assessing penalty stewards took into account G Duffy’s good riding record since resuming from a racing injury and issued a penalty of 7 meetings to apply from midnight on Sunday, 30 April, and conclude at midnight on Friday, 12 May.
RACE 7: UNEQUALLED H'CAP - 2240M
Approaching the first turn PIERMONT raced tight to the inside of SUPERSTEAM. Making the turn SHAL BE QUEEN shifted in momentarily tightening the running of YORK RITE which in turn shifted in hampering SUPERSTEAM and causing PIERMONT to be checked. A Spinks, the rider of SHAL BE QUEEN, was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
J Bryant was cautioned for her attempts to improve her position on LORD OSCAR in the straight, initially by shifting out and making contact with SUPERSTEAM where there was insufficient room, and then over the concluding stages by shifting back in where there was again insufficient room between PIERMONT and YORK RITE which resulted in her having to steady her mount.
RACE 8: SPEDITO SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 2060M
On return to scale a protest was lodged by M Carson, the rider of 5th placegetter OCRETAW, against CITY MISSION (R Goltz) being declared 4th, alleging interference in the early stages of the straight. After taking evidence from both parties and S Katsidis, the rider of OUTRANK, it was established that whilst CITY MISSION had shifted ground and made contact with OCRETAW, OUTRANK had also shifted in slightly. Bearing in mind the margins between the two horses at the finish, stewards were not satisfied that the Judge’s placings should be amended and the protest was therefore dismissed.
ICY PRIDE jumped away awkwardly and shifted in causing HURRY HURRY to be checked.
MR. ORBIT jumped away awkwardly.
