WEATHER - FINE TRACK - SLOW/DEAD AFTER R.5 RAIL - TRUE POSITION
RACE 1: CLUB CONRAD H'CAP - 2200M.
Near the 2000m., ANOTHER OFFCUT, which had been slow to begin, had to be restrained when tightened by WHAT DREAMS, which in turn was taken in by LORD OSCAR. J. Bryant, rider of LORD OSCAR, was severely reprimanded.
Approaching the 800m., DIAGA shifted out off the heels of ANOTHER OFFCUT, taking CLASSIFY out on to LORD OSCAR.
C. Munce, rider the winner, DIAGA, had his whip accidentally knocked from his grasp by the whip of M. Cahill (BOZEMAN) at the 200m..
RACE 2: CONRAD INTERNATIONAL HOTEL H'CAP - 1350M.
For some distance leaving the 1200m., GLIMMERS got its head up and raced ungenerously when steadied by its rider.
CLASSIC CLICHÉ had to be restrained off the heels of CASUAL WAY as that horse shifted in at the 800m..
DEVER'S GOLD was momentarily held up for a run leaving the 300m..
ANNUNCIATION was also momentarily impeded behind CASUAL WAY inside the 100m..
RACE 3: MARCO POLO H'CAP - 1615M.
C. Munce, who was suffering from the flu, was stood down by the club's doctor for this event. J. Taylor was substituted as the rider of NED'S REVENGE.
AQUAEUS was slow to begin.
CRÈME DE HONOR jumped inwards at the start, hampering GREASE.
RETIREMENT began awkwardly and made contact with DYNAMIC BLAZE.
GREASE shifted in under pressure at the 100m. and made contact with INDY MAN.
RACE 4: JACKPOT EXPRESS H'CAP - 1350M.
CHINDANCER was slow to begin.
WAIT AND HOPE jumped inwards at the start, hampering EMERALD ZOFF and OH CANNY.
BLAKEHURST was also hampered on jumping away by DONLANI, which jumped outwards.
Inside the 200m., LIAM LAD shifted in and away from EMERALD ZOFF, hampering OH CANNY.
RACE 5: MOET & CHANDON DOOMBEN ROSES SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES - 2020M.
After being loaded, SOPHIE'S GOLD became fractious in the barriers and reared up, dislodging L. Dittman. As a conequence, L. Dittman was unable to fulfil his engagement on SOPHIE'S GOLD, which resulted in the filly being a late withdrawal at 1.22. On the announcement of correct weight, all monies invested on SOPHIE'S GOLD were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 6 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 7 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time. Trainer M. Brosnan was advised that SOPHIE'S GOLD must pass a barrier test prior to its next race start.
L. Dittman, who suffered an injury to his left foot, was stood down from his remaining engagements and replaced as follows: Race 7. SO PRECISE - M. De Montfort. Race 9. DIRECTOR'S SPECIAL - G. Colless.
On the first turn, TRIPLE SALCHOW had to be restrained off the heels of AVILDE, which shifted in. Whilst stewards were satisfied that TRIPLE SALCHOW had contributed to the incident by racing ungenerously, Mr Cahill, rider of AVILDE, was nevertheless reprimanded for failing to provide sufficient clearance when crossing. . A veterinary examination of AVILDE revealed the filly to have quartered the inside heel of the off hind.
Following this event, the track rating was upgraded to dead.
RACE 6: BLACKJACK H'CAP - 1200M.
DASH OF BAY jumped inwards at the start and bumped TURPENTINE.
A veterinary examination of TURPENTINE, which compounded in the straight, failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 7: TREASURY CASINO 10,000 - 1350M.
FALVELON jumped inwards at the start, hampering PALLADIUM STAR.
EASY ROCKING had to be restrained at the 1200m., when momentarily tightened for room by MR. INNOCENT. G. Colless, rider of MR. INNOCENT, was cautioned.
Leaving the 1200m., CONFISCATE dipped when being steadied off the heels of STAGING.
G. Boss, rider of STAGING, was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in at the 1100m., resulting in BLACK BEAN and PALLADIUM STAR being cramped for room.
At the entrance to the straight, EASY ROCKING had to be steadied when momentarily held up.
When questioned regarding the performance of TESTA ROSSA, S. Dye stated that the colt was afforded a perfect run in the race and he was confident of victory at the 600m.. He added that without reason TESTA ROSSA was immediately under pressure from that point and the colt failed to respond as he had expected. S. Dye also advised that he did not punish the horse over the final 200 metres as it was apparent to him something was amiss. A veterinary examination of TESTA ROSSA failed to reveal any abnormality, and a swab sample was taken. Trainer D. Lawson stated that TESTA ROSSA had obviously been under a cloud following his disappointing campaign in Sydney, however all indications were that the horse had returned to normal prior to today's race. Mr Lawson undertook to report any matter that may become apparent in the days subsequent to the race which may explain the poor performance of TESTA ROSSA.
RACE 8: LIVE WIRE BAR ROUGH HABIT PLATE SUPER QRISS ADDED STAKES - 2020M.
As G. Duffy was indisposed, S. Seamer was substituted as the rider of AFLAC.
After being loaded, TELESIO broke through the front gates, however was quickly restrained. TELESIO was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
At the winning post on the firt occasion, THE SLEDGE was cramped for room by FIGURANTE, which in turn was obliged to shifted in to avoid the heels of LORD ALANNON. N. Rawwiller, rider of LORD ALANNON, was cautioned and urged to provide more clearance when shifting ground.
K. Waller, rider of STARTELL, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that on the first turn he permitted his mount to shift when not clear of VALIANT ROAD, resulting in that horse being taken in on to MAGUIRE, causing both VALIANT ROAD and MAGUIRE to be severely checked. ZULU ZEAL, which was racing to the inside of MAGUIRE, was also hampered. K. Waller was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 12 meetings, to expire at midnight, 14 June 2000.
Approaching the 200m., STARTELL was accidentally struck across the head by the whip of N. Rawiller, rider of LORD ALANNON.
At the 200m., ZULU ZEAL had to be severely checked when attempting to take a narrow run between LORD ALANNON and FIGURANTE. It was established that this occurred due to slight movement from both LORD ALANNON and FIGURANTE, and that the tightening was compounded when ZULU ZEAL made contact with the hind quarters of FIGURANTE, causing that filly to be turned in.
Passing the 100m., STARTELL resented being struck with the whip and shifted out.
G. Boss reported that he allowed ANIMATE to drop out of the event fearing that something was amiss with the gelding. The club's veterinary surgeon reported that ANIMATE had sustained a laceration to the inside of the near fore fetlock.
RACE 9: TREASURY CASINO DOOMBEN CUP - 2020M.
CRONUS jumped outwards at the start, hampering FREEMASON and FIGUREHEAD.
CRONUS shifted in momentarily at the 1400m., making contact with INTEGRATE. When relieving the tightening, CRONUS forced JOSS STICKS wider on the track.
For some distance rounding the turn, CRUZEIRO and ALLEZ SUEZ made contact as ALLEZ SUEZ attempted to shifted out to obtain clear running.
At the entrance to the straight, FREEMASON had to be steadied away from the heels of CRONUS, which commenced to lose ground.
RACE 10: CASINO REWARDS DOOMBEN SLIPPER SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES - 1350M.
On return to scale, a protest was lodged by L. Cassidy, rider of the 3nd placegetter, against GLENROWAN being declared the 2nd placegetter, alleging interference on the first turn. It was established that upon reaching the first turn, BRAVE HAWK hung out despite the efforts of its rider, G. Colless, resulting in FOSCAT and GLENROWAN being severely checked. BRAVE HAWK continued to shift out, forcing ARTIQUE extremely wide. HEROISM, which was trailing SHOW A HEART, also lost ground as a result of this incident. The protest was subsequently upheld and the Judge's placings were amended to read: No. 4. SHOW A HEART - 1st; No. 3. GLENROWAN - 2nd; No. 1. BRAVE HAWK - 3rd. Trainer R. Dawson was advised that BRAVE HAWK, which had a history of waywardness, would be required to trial to the satisfaction of the stewards prior to its next race start. The club's veterinary surgeon reported that BRAVE HAWK returned to scale with blood in its mouth as a result of a laceration to its tongue.
JOGGERAMA jumped away awkwardly.
BETRILLE was inconvenienced at the 200m. by POLISH THE SILVER, which shifted out to obtain clear running.
SCENIC PEAK shifted in at the 100m. and made contact with POWER AND EGO
ALL WINNERS AND TESTA ROSSAWERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
