WEATHER – FINE TRACK - SLOW RAIL – OUT 3.5M
DEAD (After Race 2)
RACE 1: YELLOWGLEN H'CAP – 1200M
Due to transport difficulties S Galloway was unable to fulfil his engagement on MR. IVAN and was replaced by M Pelling.
BLACKSTRAP jumped away awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with SENSACHE.
RACE 2: WOLF BLASS H'CAP – 1200M
WEST WARD jumped out at the start making contact with THIS MANSHOOD.
After the running of this event the track was upgraded to DEAD.
RACE 3: JAMIESONS RUN H'CAP – 1020M
ROYAL OPERA jumped outwards at the start inconveniencing ABSAROKA.
JOHN SYN was slow to begin.
When steadied off the heels of SAHARA CANNY at the 600m, ROYAL OPERA, which had a tendency to race greenly, shifted in resulting in ABSAROKA being crowded on to JOHN SYN. As a consequence ABSAROKA had to be checked.
SAHARA CANNY also raced greenly and was inclined to hang out from the 600m.
RUN JUST RUN, DUTCH HARRY and MERKABA were all obliged to race wide in the event.
Passing the 100m BIGGE ISLE shifted out abruptly, making contact with LACRYMA BAY.
THESPIAN PRINCE lost its near fore plate in running.
A veterinary examination of LORD RUTHERFORD, which compounded badly in the straight, failed to reveal any abnormality. Trainer C Morson advised stewards that LORD RUTHERFORD was found to be sore in the off hind leg once that colt had returned to its stable.
RACE 4: RACECOURSE ROAD BAR H'CAP – 1350M
When the pace slackened on the first turn FUSTIAN ran up on to the heels of HIT AND RUN and had to be steadied. The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that HIT AND RUN sustained lacerations to the near hock. At the same stage INVOICE clipped the heels of MOUGI and blundered.
As Z Purton, the rider of SPECTACULAR GUY, attempted to force a run to the inside of RULENZA ROAD where there was insufficient room near the 150, HIT AND RUN shifted out slightly in advance of that horse which resulted in both SPECTACULAR GUY and RULENZA ROAD being hampered. Apprentice Z Purton was severely reprimanded by stewards for his actions.
D Crossland, the rider of AFLAC, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding of a charge of careless riding in that near the 150m he allowed his mount to shift out under pressure resulting in SPACE PRINCE being checked. D Crossland was suspended from riding in races for a period of 6 meetings to commence at midnight on Wednesday, 2 May, and expire at midnight on Friday, 11 May. In assessing penalty stewards took into acount that HIT AND RUN had contributed to the incident by shifting in marginally at the time of the tightening to SPACE PRINCE.
The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that TOUGH SWORD was galloped on on the near hind leg.
RACE 5: ROTHBURY SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP – 1200M
B Stewart, who was distressed after riding TOUGH SWORD in Race 4, was examined by the Club's medical officer and advised to forgo his mount on GEE EYE JANE in this event. As no other rider was available closer to the horse's allocated weight, stewards permitted N Harris to ride the filly 1½ kilograms overweight.
MAGICAL MADDIE jumped inwards at the start taking SHANNON LEE in on to EXCELLENT ANN. As a result of solid contact between SHANNON LEE and EXCELLENT ANN, EXCELLENT ANN became unbalanced as did its rider Z Purton.
Upon straightening GAY ADVENTURE shifted out abruptly off the heels of JUST KISTA, resulting in the tiring IDESA BAY being taken out on to QUAM CLEERITER.
RACE 6: HAMILTON HOTEL SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP – 1615M
Trainer D J Gollan was fined $25 for presenting HELEN'S HONEY without its tongue tie.
As G Palmer was to be overweight, K Pope was substituted as the rider of EUREKA SUNDAY. Having regard to G Palmer's good record in relation to matters of being overweight, a reprimand was issued in lieu of a fine.
AWESOME DATE jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
Z Purton, the rider of TOBIANA, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that approaching the 1400m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of FOSCAT, resulting in FOSCAT having to be checked. Z Purton was suspended for a period of 6 meetings to commence at midnight on Wednesday, 2 May, and expire at midnight on Friday, 11 May. In assessing penalty stewards took into account apprentice Purton's good record in regard to careless riding suspensions and also the interference suffered by FOSCAT was not severe.
Approaching the 200m CARBRECEL was momentarily held up for a run between TOBIANA and LADY ISABELLA.
AWESOME DATE was held up for clear running over the final 75m.
The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that HELEN'S HONEY sustained a laceration to the off stifle.
RACE 7: CARLTON DRAUGHT CUP – 1200M
Trainer J P Wallace was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for DYNAMIC LOVE by the prescribed time.
After being loaded AGGRAVATION reared up and got its near foreleg caught over the stall partition. On the advice of the Club's veterinary surgeon AGGRAVATION was declared a late withdrawal at 4.23 p.m. On the announcement of correct weight, all monies invested on AGGRAVATION were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 8 cents in the dollar for the win and 9 cents in the dollar for the place on the face value of the ticket applicable.
DYNAMIC LOVE jumped inwards at the start, bumping heavily with KENCONCARNE. Soon after the start KING LOTTO shifted out resulting in QUALITY KINGDOM being taken on to SPY KING which became unbalanced after making contact with KENCONCARNE. In this incident KENCONCARNE had to be severely checked and in turn DYNAMIC LOVE was hampered.
Rounding the home turn SHOW A HEART was held up for a run inside of FINE ACTION.
RACE 8: HOT ICE NIGHTCLUB H'CAP – 1615M
ANNUNCIATION shifted in soon after the start tightening REBEL WITH A CAUSE.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
