After being loaded, NOELLE BRASELLE became fractious in the barriers and got down in the stalls. BRAVISA, which was in the adjoining stall, also became fractious. Acting on the advice of the Club's veterinary surgeon, NOELLE BRASELLE was withdrawn at 4.42 p.m. Trainer Mrs D Logan was advised that NOELLE BRASELLE would be required to pass a further barrier test prior to that filly's next race start. On the announcement of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on NOELLE BRASELLE be refunded with deductions of 2 cents in the dollar on the face value of win and place tickets applicable.
Leaving the 1600m ARRABEEA had a tendency to race ungenerously and shifted in resulting in LUXURY RIDE having to be steadied. BRAVISA, which was following, struck the heels of LUXURY RIDE.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ARRABEEA, L Beasley advised that the filly was in a cantankerous mood during her preliminary and behind the barriers and uncharacteristically tended to overrace in the early stages of the event. He added that ARRABEEA was indeed disappointing with her failure to run on over the concluding stages, however in retrospect the pattern of racing which had developed during the day seemed to prejudice horses from making ground wide on the track from back in the field. The Club's veterinary surgeon, Dr Manahan, indicated that he had been requested to inspect ARRABEEA behind the barriers as there was some suggestion that the filly may have been kicked, however he could detect no evidence of this and as a consequence passed the filly fit to start. A post-race examination of ARRABEEA also failed to reveal any abnormalities.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
