Seamer explained that SYDANEE resented being restrained and got its head up and was inclined to overrace, and rounding the 800m. turn when racing fiercely the filly hung out. Trainer S. Dwyer confirmed it was his intention that the horse be positioned midfield in an effort to have the horse settle in its races. He explained that as SYDANEE had overraced when restrained, he may experiment with a crossover noseband before the horse's next start.

Stewards questioned trainer T. Webb and rider M. Cahill concerning the seemingly disappointing performance of GREAT CRUSADER. M. Cahill was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance other than to confirm that the horse dipped near the 300m.. Trainer T. Webb agreed that the horse's performance was disappointing today and he felt that it may not have backed up from its last start in the Lightning Stakes approximately 9 days ago. Mr Webb explained that in reflection in the past the horse's runs have been spaced as it appears to race best when fresh. He confirmed his instructions to jockey M. Cahill and was not perturbed when the horse did not lead as it had been successful on a number of occasions in the past when ridden just off the pace. Mr Webb undertook to monitor the horse to see how it pulled up after today's race and will advise stewards as to whether he would continue with the horse's preparation or spell the horse. A veterinary examination of GREAT CRUSADER revealed the colt to have sustained a laceration to the cannon on the near foreleg. The explanation was noted and a swab sample was taken.
