WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 7M. ALL TRACK

GENERAL: FROM SCTC MEETING, 17.6.01

Stewards today concluded an adjourned inquiry into the reason for apprentices A. Morrison and S. Morris failing to fulfil their engagements on SAHARA BRAVE (Race 3) and CHARGAL (Race 8) respectively. After taking evidence from A. Morrison, S. Morris and trainer N.R. Dawson, the explanations were accepted and no action was taken.

Trainer B. Castles reported that FLYING TAAN was found to be lame in the near hind leg after being galloped on in the Esk Cup.


RACE 1: FLOWERS BY HAWKINS H'CAP - 1200M.

RYTHMIC CHIEF and SCREAMING EAGLE came together on jumping away.

M. Bennett, rider of MR. COMEDY, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift in shortly after the start when not clear of REPRENDRE, resulting in REPRENDRE clipping the heels of MR. COMEDY and blundering. M. Bennett was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 1 July, and to expire at midnight, 12 July 2001.

M. Pelling, rider of TANIWHA, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of RYTHMIC CHIEF, which in turn was taken in on to KANGAROO POINT, which resulted in KANGAROO POINT having to be checked. M. Pelling was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 30 June, and to expire at midnight, 8 July 2001. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account M. Pelling's good race riding record.

Approaching the first turn, REPRENDRE shifted out and made contact with the hind quarters of GRANDWAY PAL, which had to be steadied.

CUMBIA was inclined to shift in under pressure in the straight.


RACE 2: THE VALLEY H'CAP - 1200M.

No racing incidents.



RACE 3: MERCEDES-BENZ H'CAP - 1030M.

OZZEL, TIMBER CINDERS and GRANLASSUE were slow to begin.

Approaching the first turn, BIG POONGA was hampered when tightened for room between TURF SWANK, which shifted in slightly, and MOVILLE SON, which shifted out.

Approaching the first turn, BIG POONGA had to be steadied when tightened for room between TURF SWANK, which shifted in and away from MOW DOWN, and MOVILLE SON, which had a tendency to hang out.

Making the first turn, CLOSE TO DANGER had to be steadied to avoid the heels of AGILE KING, which shifted in. Whilst stewards acknowledged that CLOSE TO DANGER was overracing at this stage, W. Cook, rider of AGILE KING, was nonetheless reprimanded and advised to be 2 lengths clear with shifting ground.

Z. Purton, rider of BIG POONGA, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 400m. when not clear of TIMBER CINDERS, which was steadied by its rider in M. Pelling. Z. Purton was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 1 July, and to expire at midnight, 12 July 2001.

After riding GRANLASSUE in this event, A. Merritt was examined by the club's doctor and stood down from his engagement on FLASH FRED in race 7.


RACE 4: MERCURE RESORT SURFERS PARADISE H'CAP - 1200M.

DEDEE TRUITT blundered on jumping away.

REZIDENCIA and BONNECAY were slowly away.

REDGRAVE and OUR GIRL DAWN came together on jumping away.

Shortly after the start, DISCO GIRL and BAVARIA came together and made heavy contact when tightened for room between MISS MARTINDALE, which shifted in abruptly, and RACING FRIENDS, which shifted out.

OUR GIRL DAWN raced fiercely in the early and middle stages.


RACE 5: PUMPKIN PATCH H'CAP - 1640M.

NELLIE DE AIR was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon at the barriers and found to be lame in front. NELLIE DE AIR was declared a late scratching at 2.54 p.m., and Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on NELLIE DE AIR were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 3 cents in the dollar on the face value of win successful win and place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed pri

Z. Purton, rider of NOTICE, was reprimanded for returning to scale in excess of half a kilogram over his declared weight.

RACE 6: AMBASSADOR TRAVEL H'CAP - 2230M.

SPINNAKER blundered on jumping away.

Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, MAJESTIC HEIGHTS had to be steadied to avoid the heels of CAKE TAKER, which shifted in. J. Taylor, rider of CAKE TAKER, was reminded of his obligations to be 2 lengths clear when shifting ground.

Near the 600m., SUPERIOR RED, which was tiring, shifted in, tightening the running of LIVE IN FAITH and SURPRISE ATTACK.

In the early stages of the straight, SPINNAKER was held up for clear running.

CAKE TAKER bled from both nostrils during the event. CAKE TAKER will be barred from racing for a period of 3 months. A swab sample was taken from CAKE TAKER.


RACE 7: HARDY BROTHERS JEWELLERS H'CAP - 1640M.

J. Bryant replaced the indisposed A. Merritt on FLASH FRED.

RED PYRAMID was slow to begin.

Passing the 300m., GALLANT HERO improved quickly between THUNDERBURST and the tiring PALACE EDITION where there was insufficient room, and as a result had to be checked. In this incident, GALLANT HERO made contact with the hind quarters of THUNDERBURST, turning that horse out on to RED PYRAMID.

A veterinary examination of THUNDERBURST, which was eased out of the race by its rider, M. Pelling, revealed the gelding to be short in its action in the near foreleg. Trainer A. Bailey indicated that THUNDERBURST would now be spelled.


RACE 8: STAGING CONNECTIONS SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1350M.

SHANKADI jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

Near the 500m., FOXMORE shifted out and made contact with GOING FOR GOLD when attempting to obtain a run to the outside of the heels of MY LOURDES.

KWILA SPIRIT had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight, and inside the 100m. attempted to take a run between FOXMORE and LEVANTE where there was insufficient room and as a result, KWILA SPIRIT made contact with the hind quarters of LEVANTE.


ALL WINNERS AND CAKE TAKER WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
