WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 3M. ALL TRACK
RACE 1: HONEYCOMBES CARS & 4WD'S H'CAP - 1200M.
Near the 600m., SEA HARVEY shifted out and made heavy contact with KILAMANJARO.
D. Gill, rider of CLOSE TO DANGER, was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip on a horse out of contention.
The track rating was upgraded to fast following this event.
RACE 2: QUICK FIT TYRES H'CAP - 1200M.
Approaching the first turn when being steadied, ROYALSYN had a tendency to overrace.
The saddle on CHIEF'S TREASURE shifted to the off side after passing the 800m., resulting in K. Pope having to ease that mare out of the event.
RACE 3: HEALTHY LIFE H'CAP - 1350M.
SILENT ASSASSIN, which sustained lacerations and bruising to the forehead en route to the course, was declared a late scratching at 12.02 p.m. on veterinary advice.
HOROWITZ was slow to begin.
N. Tomizawa reported that the saddle on KYMESSA shifted forward shortly after the start, placing him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event.
Near the 1250m., PYFO shifted in and made heavy contact with KYMESSA.
Making the 800m., ON VENTURA HIGHWAY had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MISS CRABOPPLE, which was momentarily taken in by NAZZARO.
At the 300m., VALIANT BID had to be steadied off the heels of NAZZARO.
Near the 100m., WISHART shifted in under pressure, taking HOROWITZ in on to MISS CRABOPPLE, which in turn shifted in, inconveniencing ON VENTURA HIGHWAY.
RACE 4: QUEENSLAND PINE COMPANY SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1615M.
AWESOME NIGHT shifted out on jumping away, taking JUST A BELIEVER out on to the hind quarters of TOPARILI.
Near the 800m., WINNING FRIENDS was obliged to shift out to avoid the heels of JUST A BELIEVER.
J. Taylor was questioned regarding the disappointing performance of JUST A BELIEVER. He stated that the filly had to be steadied making the first turn off the heels of AWESOME KNIGHT and as a result, JUST A BELIEVER tended to overrace for a short distance. He added that after leaving the 800m., when he placed the filly under some pressure, she failed to respond, and in his opinion was very disappointing.
Apprentice M. Rodd was question as to the reason he allowed ECTASY to settle several lengths behind the second last horse in the early stages. He stated that on jumping away, the gelding immediately commenced to race on the bit, however approaching the first turn, ECTASY relaxed and got further back than he anticipated, and as a result he commenced to urge the gelding forward after passing the 1000m.. The explanation was accepted.
RACE 5: BYRNE FORD H'CAP - 1350M.
GRAND CHARIOT, which was restless in the stalls, was slow to begin.
When questioned, N. Evans stated that SCARLEX did not travel as well in running as it did when winning at Eagle Farm on 19 September. He added that after passing the 600m. when TENUOUS went forward, he was unable to hold the lead, and then on straightening after obtaining a run to the inside of TENUOUS, SCARLEX only ran home fairly.
A veterinary examination of ELITE TED following the event revealed the gelding to be sore in the near hindleg. Trainer T. Hardy advised that the gelding would now be sent for a spell.
RACE 6: TOTAL LEGEND JEANS H'CAP - 2020M.
ZOFF ROCK was a late scratching on veterinary advice at 3.40 p.m. after the gelding got both forelegs over the barrier partition. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on ZOFF ROCK were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 7 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 8 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time.
Near the 900m., MARQUIS, which was pulling hard, clipped the heels of DASH OF BAY and blundered.
DRUTHER'S OPTION was forced to race wide throughout the event.
REGAL CHI CHI pulled up lame as a result of an injury to the near fore fetlock. Trainer K. Kemp advised that REGAL CHI CHI would now be retired from racing.
RACE 7: FM104 TRIPLE M H'CAP - 1350M.
Due to commitments in Toowoomba, S. Katsidis was unable to fulfil his engagement TIMBER CINDERS. An inquiry will be held into the matter.
Shortly after the start, SAINTLY SPY shifted in taking THE AWESOME CHANCE in on to NAKED EYE, which resulted in contact being made to BRITANNICUS, which had to be steadied off the heels of EPIC FLYER.
K. Pope, rider of CAPANNELLE was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out at the 300m., resulting in THE AWESOME CHANCE having to be steadied.
Near the 100m., SAINTLY SPY had to be checked when tightened for room between MINATOUR (M. Rodd), which shifted in, and BUCKHEAD (M. Dracos), which shifted out and away from BRITANNICUS. Both M. Rodd and M. Dracos immediately stopped riding and endeavoured to straightened their mounts.
M. Carson was questioned regarding the performance of TIMBER CINDERS. He stated that the mare did not accelerate in the early stages and as a result he was forced to race wide, and therefore he elected to ease the mare back to take a trail with cover. He added that TIMBER CINDERS ran home fairly in the straight. The explanation was noted.
RACE 8: EYEWEAR NOW H'CAP - 1615M.
A protest was lodged by G. Schofield, rider of the second placegetter, NOBLE KAAPTIVE, against SPORTS DIARY being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 500m.. In dismissing the objection, stewards found whilst both horses made contact at the 500m., stewards were of the opinion that NOBLE KAAPTIVE did not have full purchase on the run outside the leader.
Nearing the 900m., STRONGARM had to be steadied when tightened for room by HOT ASH SLAY, which hung in despite the efforts of M. Pelling, rider of HOT ASH SLAY.
Approaching the home turn, TOOT 'N' GO was held up for some distance behind STRONGARM.
Apprentice M. Rodd reported that NORTHERN INDIES shifted out abruptly shortly after the start and attempted to buck and refused to race for some distance. Trainer W. Baker will be interviewed in relation to the racing manners of NORTHERN INDIES.
An inquiry was adjourned into the reason for A. Morrison, rider of SPORT DIARY, returning to scale overweight to enable stewards to interview trainer P. Nolan.
