BRISBANE TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT. 02.08.03

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr A. Reardon (Chairman), Mr J. Hackett, Mr D. Collingwood, Mr P. Gillard, Mr C. Waller

WEATHER – FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL – OUT 6.5M

RACE 1: JOHN SIVYER HOLDEN H'CAP – 1350M

EMPYREAN was slow to begin.

After reaching the lead passing the 1200m OMNITRADER had a tendency to overrace.

Several times in the straight EMPYREAN and WEAISHE made contact due to both horses shifting ground under pressure.

Z. Purton, the rider of 3rd placegetter OMNITRADER, was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts right to the finishing line.

RACE 2: BRISBANE GRAMMAR SCHOOL QTIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP – 1110M

HEAD FOR COVER, which was unable to be loaded, was declared a late scratching at 12.50 p.m. Trainer T. Hall was advised that HEAD FOR COVER would have to obtain a further barrier certificate before starting again. On the announcement of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on HEAD FOR COVER be refunded with deductions of 2 cents in the dollar on the face value of win and place bets applicable.

FOCUSING, which lunged forward after being loaded into the barriers, was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon who passed the filly fit to start.

GOOD LUCK jumped away awkwardly and made contact with HOOT'S VIEW.

STAR OF SEQUALO also jumped awkwardly.

After leaving the 1000m EFFECTIVELY was briefly tightened for room by HUDSON JACK which shifted in.

Trainer S. Dwyer reported after the event that in his opinion FOCUSING was slightly shin sore in the off foreleg.

RACE 3: REGINALD ROE H'CAP – 2040M

Near the 300m SHAMROCKS had to be checked off the heels of TYALGUM POP when taken out by TWILIGHT YEARS which shifted ground slightly. G. Colless, the rider of TWILIGHT YEARS, was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in future when shifting ground.

TOOLBOX, which was obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages and compounded over the concluding stages, was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon who reported that he could find no abnormality.

C. Spry, the rider of 5th placegetter TYALGUM POP, was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts right to the finishing line.

RACE 4: GREAT HALL SOCIETY H'CAP – 1350M

NORTHERN FRIENDS was a late scratching at 9.25 a.m. A veterinary certificate was tendered.

GAINLY LAD was slow to begin.

G. Colless, the rider of TOP MARC, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, the careless riding being that near the 1100m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of TELLEM, resulting in TELLEM being taken in on to MULLIGAN which had to be checked. G. Colless was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, with the suspension to commence at midnight on Sunday, 3 August, and expire at midnight on Friday, 15 August 2003. TRIPLE MAC and MERV'S WISH, which were following, were both inconvenienced in this incident.

DARBY raced fiercely for some distance passing the 800m.

AIR WAR was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.

Near the 300m COUNTER AGENT had to be checked when disappointed for a run between TRIPLE MAC and MULLIGAN.

The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that DARBY sustained small lacerations to both fore cannons and that it lost its off hind plate during the event.

RACE 5: EXPERTFORM.COM H'CAP – 1200M

JAMELDEN, which was fractious in the barriers, jumped away awkwardly and made heavy contact with CHA CHA D'AMOUR, which in turn was taken in on to CREONA DARKNESS.

DANCE BABE, CAMBERWELL and AL CARAZONE were slow to begin.

Making the first turn AL CARAZONE shifted out making contact with COTTON BRAE. K. Pope, the rider of AL CARAZONE, reported that the bit pulled through the horse's mouth at that stage.

Nearing the 200m, MUSHOOD shifted out to improve, inconveniencing TIME'S PRECIOUS. Apprentice A. Best, the rider of MUSHOOD, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

Trainer P. Williams expressed concerns with jockey N. Day's riding out of CAMBERWELL in the straight. After interviewing both parties, trainer P. Williams was advised that stewards were satisfied with N. Day's riding of that mare.

RACE 6: BGS OLD BOYS ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT'S H'CAP – 1110M

GRAMERCY was slow to begin.

Making the first turn JANADI, when being restrained, shifted out and made contact with STORMY JOE.

Near the 900m MASINDOR had to be steadied off the heels of NORTHERN FORCE which shifted out.

GRAMERCY raced fiercely in the early stages.

VIVID MISS was obliged to race wide throughout.

JANADI and GRAMERCY were held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

Shortly after entering the straight MASINDOR improved to the outside of the heels of MOONAH BROOKE and in doing so tightened the running of NORTHERN FORCE which made contact with TETHYS' TROJAN which was taken out on to VIVID MISS. A short distance later HOW HIGH SIR shifted out and brushed MASINDOR which resulted in NORTHERN FORCE having to be checked. Whilst it was established that HOW HIGH SIR had shifted ground and made contact with MASINDOR, M. McDonald, the rider of MASINDOR, was nonetheless cautioned and given the benefit of the doubt as to whether he was fully responsible for this incident.

Near the 200m GRAMERCY had to be checked off the heels of MOONAH BROOKE.

RACE 7: EXPERTFORM.COM H'CAP – 1200M

Making the first turn CLAY SHAKER shifted in and made contact with LOCK THE KEY.

FEDERAL AGENT had to be eased off the heels of LOCK THE KEY near the 100m.

RACE 8: THOMAS HARLIN H'CAP – 1640M

As K. Pope was indisposed following his ride in Race 5, J. Taylor was substituted as the rider of FRENCH GENTLEMAN.

Passing the 1400m VOLKMAN commenced to pull hard and continued to do so for some distance.

At the entrance to the straight CASUAL REWARD, which was tiring, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of GLEN MONARCH which shifted in.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
