WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 7.5M. ALL TRACK
General: From BTC meeting, 30.8.03
Trainer M. Thexton was fined $50 for nominating WARRIOR TRADER for a Class 6 event when ineligible.
RACE 1: PETER WALDON H'CAP - 1200M.
Near the 100m., MISS ELENI shifted in, taking LADY ISABELLA in on to the hind quarters of CHOP CHOP.
RACE 2: COLLINGWOOD PARK ESTATE QTIS STAKES H'CAP - 1200M.
Trainer S. Dwyer was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for WAR GENERAL by the required time.
Shortly after the start, after being brushed by SANDY RIVER, SAHARA JAY attempted to buck and as a result lost considerable ground. The racing manners of SAHARA JAY were brought to the attention of the trainers representative.
After leaving the 800m., HOOT'S VIEW, which was racing ungenerously when being steadied off the heels of AU CHOCOLAT, shifted in, inconveniencing COUNTESS BATHORY.
The saddle on COUNTESS BATHORY shifted to the nearside after leaving the 800m., placing K. Pope at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event.
Approaching the home turn, WAR GENERAL was held up for clear running behind SONIC PEAK.
RACE 3: METRO NISSAN WINDSOR H'CAP - 1110M.
On jumping away, PEDRO'S TYCOON shifted in, taking INDIGESTION in on to MACALBERT.
NORTHERN CRUSADER jumped away awkwardly.
Inside the 100m., THESPIAN PRINCE shifted out under pressure, resulting in NOTHERN CRUSADER having to be steadied and shift out to avoid the heels of INDIGESTION. M. Pelling, rider of THESPIAN PRINCE, was reprimanded and advised to straighten his mounts sooner than he did on this occasion.
IMPOSING KEN was held up for clear running from the entrance to the straight until near the 300m., and also had difficulty obtaining clear running near the 100m..
RACE 4: CHANNEL 10'S AUSTRALIAN IDOL H'CAP - 2240M.
Due to a finger injury, J. Powell was stood down for the day by the club's doctor and replaced by M. Pelling on FRENCH GENTLEMAN and NO STOPS (Race 5), D. Evans on HEPTATHLON, J. Stanley on HEROISM in race 7.
Over the concluding stages, FRENCH GENTLEMAN was inconvenienced by MAKES ME DIZZY, which shifted out.
RACE 5: BANK OF QUEENSLAND H'CAP - 1350M.
On return to scale a protest was lodged by M. Rice, rider of the 4th placegetter, MOONAH BROOKE, against SILVERTHORNE being declared the 2nd placegetter, alleging interference in the straight. Whilst it was acknowledged that near the 200m. SILVERTHORNE had shifted in, making contact with MOONAH BROOKE, stewards were not satisfied that the interference suffered at this stage warranted a reversal of placings and the protest was therefore dismissed.
NO STOPS was obliged to race wide throughout the event.
J. Warrington, rider of SILVERTHORNE, was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in after leaving the 1200m. when not clear of NO STOPS, resulting in NO STOPS having to be steadied.
RACE 6: MCDONALD'S SALADS PLUS H'CAP - 1650M.
Making the first turn, TIME'S PRECIOUS had to be restrained off the heels of HEPTATHLON and continued to race ungenerously for a short distance.
PLAITED raced ungenerously in the early stages.
DORIN DONNA was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight, and then after leaving the 200m. shifted out to improve and made contact with SUMMER EYES.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of DANU as compared to the mare's unplaced effort at Toowoomba on 23 August, trainer P. Richardson stated on that occasion the mare was obliged to race wide throughout the event and made the home turn awkwardly.
RACE 7: TRIPLE M H'CAP - 1850M.
Shortly after the start, SCENIC WELLS shifted in, taking AMALFI in on to ICY PRIDE, which became unbalanced.
Shortly after entering the straight, JEREMIAD shifted out to improve from behind the heels of RAHERA and in doing so made contact with SCENIC WELLS. Soon after, RAHERA commenced to shift out under riding, resulting in JEREMIAD being taken out on to SCENIC WELLS, which in turn made contact with AMALFI..
After passing the 200m., SCENIC WELLS again was tightened for room by JEREMIAD, which had a tendency to shift away from RAHERA. RAHERA continued to shift ground until after leaving the 100m.. . N. Day, rider of RAHERA, was severely reprimanded for failing to prevent his mount from shifting ground in the straight
SAMMY was obliged to race wide throughout.
RACE 8: PADDO TAVERN H'CAP - 1200M.
GASCONNADE was slow to begin.
Near the 500m., when attempting to improve to the outside of the heels of STICKS 'N' STONES, JARABU made contact with KATABATIC on a number of occasions.
WAYJO hung out in the straight, preventing J. Stanley from riding that gelding out to the best of his ability. The racing manners of WAYJO again will be brought to the attention of trainer R. Heathcote, who was not present at the meeting.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
