RACE 2: LEGACY H'CAP – 1200M
After travelling a short distance, ENVISION had to be checked when tightened between IRISH BUNNY, which was taken out by KAZAKING, and FORTUNE'S HAND, which shifted in away from PITTAPADDY.
PITTAPADDY was obliged to race wide throughout the event.
ENVISION commenced to tire rounding the home turn and finished some distance from the main body of the field. N. Jolly could offer no explanation for the poor performance. Trainer J. Anderson reported that the horse may not have been comfortable with the tongue tie and would consider removing it from the horse before its next start. Connections of ENVISION were informed that the horse would be required to trial to the stewards' satisfaction before racing again. A veterinary examination of ENVISION failed to reveal any abnormality.
G. Colless reported that PENOLA did not initially respond to his riding when asked for an effort rounding the home turn.
RACE 3: AUSTRALIAN COMPANY INCORPORATED SERVICES H'CAP – 1010M
PRINCE CHARGE loosened the off front plate on the way to the barriers and this required the attention of the farrier.
HUEY was slow to begin.
TRULY OURS jumped away awkwardly.
PRINCE CHARGE was caught wide after the start and raced extremely wide throughout. M. Rodd reported that the horse hung out throughout running and that the bit pulled through the horse's mouth prior to the home turn. He also reported that as a result of the horse wanting to hang out he had difficulty testing the horse over the concluding stages. A veterinary examination of PRINCE CHARGE revealed the horse to be lame in the offside foreleg.
RACE 4: CARPET ONE H'CAP – 1350M
Rounding the first turn ALPINE EXPRESS was inclined to lay in, resulting in KING SHALFORD being cramped for room.
INNER CITY was caught three wide after the start and was obliged to race three wide throughout.
When attempting a narrow run between ALPINE EXPRESS and KING SHALFORD near the 300m, TAHITIAN STAR was momentarily cramped by KING SHALFORD which shifted out slightly under pressure.
Apprentice A. Best was questioned in relation to his tactics on ALPINE EXPRESS, particularly in the early stages. A. Best stated that he had been instructed to ride the horse just off the pace, but when caught three wide he urged his mount forward to gain a position nearer the rail. This resulted in ALPINE EXPRESS overracing so he had attempted to ease the horse to allow INNER CITY to cross, however the horse resented being restrained and resulted in him racing outside the leader. A. Best's explanation was noted.
RACE 5: CLASSIC BLINDS H'CAP – 2200M
TYALGUM POP was caught three wide after the start and raced three wide for the majority of the event.
Approaching the home turn TRAILER attempted to ease away from the heels of the tiring IN CONTROL and made contact with GRAND SEMI which maintained its position one wide. TRAILER was then held up behind the heels of the tiring IN CONTROL until straightening.
IN CONTROL tired badly over the concluding stages. A veterinary examination of IN CONTROL failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 6: HAPPY BIRTHDAY FRANK H'CAP – 1615M
COUNTER AGENT and TODMAN AVENUE made heavy contact on jumping away. As a consequence of this contact, COUNTER AGENT blundered.
NOSEY MAN made heavy contact with the running rail near the 800m. TRENDY TIME, which was trailing, shifted out off that horse's heels and inconvenienced COUNTER AGENT, forcing it wider.
Approaching the home turn VICTORY RANGER shifted out to improve, taking TOPPA wider.
RUE THE SAINT was inclined to hang in over the latter stages of the race.
RACE 7: FOREST PLACE RETIREMENT VILLAGES H'CAP – 1350M
MISS LOUISA and THE GINZA jumped awkwardly.

RACE 8: FOREST PLACE ALBANY CREEK H'CAP – 1200M
GILDED TIARA jumped away awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with MILLIBACI.
JERASH, ODE TO THEE and CHENAR were all a little slow to jump.
Shortly after the start BY DEFAULT had to be eased to avoid the heels of FORCIBLY which shifted in.
Near the 1000m GILDED TIARA had to be steadied off the heels of FORCIBLY which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. In this incident LEISURE, which was trailing, was inconvenienced. A. Pattillo, the rider of FORCIBLY, was severely reprimanded and reminded of his obligation to provide sufficient clearance when crossing.
CHENAR was obliged to race wide throughout the event.
Approaching the 200m KAVORKA attempted a run between LEISURE and CHENAR where there was not fully sufficient room. When attempting this run, KAVORKA was accidentally struck across the head by the whip of M. Rodd (LEISURE), and at the same time CHENAR shifted ground. For some distance approaching the 100m KAVORKA was inconvenienced and held up on the heels of CHENAR, which continued to shift ground under pressure. Apprentice A. Stead, the rider of CHENAR, was advised to exercise more care when his mounts commence to shift ground. Near the 100m LEISURE was hampered when cramped for room between BY DEFAULT and KAVORKA, which was being eased away from the heels of CHENAR.
M. Rodd and stable foreman for trainer J. Collins, Ms N. Putney, were questioned in relation to the disappointing performance of LEISURE which failed to run on over the concluding stages. M. Rodd was at a loss to explain the poor performance. Ms Putney indicated that the horse had worked well in preparation for today's race. A veterinary examination of LEISURE revealed no abnormalities and a swab sample was taken. Ms Putney was requested to inform stewards of anything that may come to the stable's notice in the days following the event that may have had some bearing on the disappointing performance.
As HYMN TO HER settled further back in the field than anticipated, J. Powell stated that whilst he had been instructed to ride the horse forward and on the pace, the horse could not muster sufficient speed in the early stages to take up a forward position. His explanation was noted.
ALL WINNERS AND LEISURE WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
