BRISBANE TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT 17.1.2003

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr A. Reardon (Chairman), Mr D. Hensler, Mr C. Waller Mr W. Geggie, Mr W. Flynn, Mr D. Ferguson (Cadet).

WEATHER - OVERCAST TRACK - HEAVY RAIL - 2M. ALL TRACK


RACE 1: ROY MCLEAN - THE GOOD GUYS H'CAP - 1615M.

COSMIC COMET, which was kicked on the near shoulder behind the barriers, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

BAR ECLIPSE shifted out at the start, taking PERFECT STING out on to PRAYDO.

At the entrance to the straight, COOLANGATTA was disappointed for a run between CLEANMOHR and AGITATOR.

SEA SIOUX was held up in the early stages of the straight.

Over the concluding stages, STEAL A MARCH had to be steadied to avoid the heels of PERFECT STING, which shifted out under pressure.

TORINY was unable to obtain clear running in the straight.

COSMIC COMET was also unable to obtain clear running in the straight.

Following this race, the track rating was upgraded to slow.


RACE 2: TATE MASON - THE GOOD GUYS QTIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1110M.

Due to heavy rain prior to this event the track rating was downgraded to heavy, and the starting time was amended to 1.23 p.m.

BUNSEN HONEYDEW was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start, STAR CHARIOT attempted to buck. The racing manners of STAR CHARIOT was brought to the attention of trainer L. Ross.

Jockey Z. Purton was questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SWIFT SEQUALO. He stated after being a little slow to begin, the gelding began to race on the bit after passing the 800m., however when placed under pressure in the straight, SWIFT SEQUALO failed to run on. Z. Purton added that, in his opinion, SWIFT SEQUALO did not appreciate the rain affected track.


RACE 3: GLENN ISACC - THE GOOD GUYS QTIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 2020M.

The starting time for this event was amended to 1.53 p.m..

LA QUALITY jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, PISTOL KNIGHT shifted out to avoid the heels of CHARLOTTE SOUND, and in doing so forced ANDAHOY wider on the track. In this incident, ANDAHOY made contact with CIMARRON TRAIL. L. Morrison, rider of CHARLOTTE SOUND, was severely reprimanded for easing her mount prematurely, which resulted in PISTOL KNIGHT having to be steadied to avoid the heels of CHARLOTTE SOUND.


LA QUALITY raced ungenerously in the early stages.

Following the event, G. Colless reported ANDAHOY failed to handle the track conditions.


RACE 4: TERRY YOUNG - THE GOOD GUYS H'CAP - 1200M.

EXCELLENT ANN jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, hampering BELLE PAREZ and ULTRA SWING.

Near the 700m., FLASH VALENTINE had to be steadied when tightened for room between ANNA DE JULES and COTTON BRAE, which shifted out.

COTTON BRAE shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.

Jockey M. Rice was questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SIRONA. He stated he had been instructed to race near the leaders, however after being slowly away, SIRONA showed no early speed, and near the 1100m., had to be steadied to avoid the heels of FLASH VALENTINE. M. Rice added that SIRONA failed to handle the track conditions.

Trainer L. Ross reported that FASHION JEWELS lost its near fore plate in running.


RACE 5: JAMES BROCKHURST - THE GOOD GUYS H'CAP - 1200M.

Due to transport difficulties, K. Pope was unable to fulfil his engagement on THE STRUTTER. R. Goltz was substituted as the rider of that gelding.

THE STRUTTER refused to jump with the field. Trainer R. Frazer was advised that he would be required to produce a further barrier test certificate for THE STRUTTER prior to its next race start.

D. Griffin reported that GOLD EYE failed to handle the heavy track conditions.


RACE 6: ALF SAID - THE GOOD GUYS H'CAP - 1615M.

MAPS was slow to begin.

After leaving the 600m., WHAT A GUY had to be steadied when attempting to improve between CELTIC TRIAL and MAPS.






RACE 7: ROBERT CORBETT - THE GOOD GUYS DOOMBEN DASH H'CAP - 1010M.

P. Hammersley was examined by the club's doctor after riding in race 6 and stood down from his engagement on KEEP COMING and ACE CLUB (Race 8). K. Pope was substituted as the rider of KEEP COMING and D. Griffin as the rider of ACE CLUB.

JAR JAR BINKS jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

SEQUALITY and KEEP COMING also jumped awkwardly.

B. Stewart, rider of CLAY SHAKER, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, the careless riding being that shortly after the start he allowed his mount to shift out when not clear of STAR OF SEQUALO, taking that filly out on to the hind quarters of SEQUALITY, and as a result STAR OF SEQUALO had to be checked. B. Stewart was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 9 meetings, to commence at midnight, 20 January, and to expire at midnight, 4 February 2004.

After leaving the 600m., STAR OF SEQUALO had to be steadied off the heels of CLAY SHAKER, which shifted in.

CLAY SHAKER was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.

Near the 100m., STAR OF SEQUALO was tightened for room by CLAY SHAKER, which was taken in by PROMISING JOY.

A veterinary examination of PEMBLETON, which finished last, failed to reveal any abnormality.


RACE 8: RAY SHIELDS - THE GOOD GUYS H'CAP - 1350M.

On jumping away, PALATINE and LAWFUL POKER were tightened for room between VEESAR and LUXFORD.

A short distance later, LUXFORD then shifted in, inconveniencing TELE SERIES.

ACE CLUB blundered on jumping away.

M. Rodd reported that LUXFORD dipped making the home turn and again in the straight. He added that he was concerned with gelding's action, especially the near fore leg and felt there was something amiss with LUXFORD. A veterinary examination of LUXFORD revealed the gelding to be sore in the near fore leg.




ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
