BRISBANE TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT WED.18.2.04

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr C. Clifford, Mr A. Reardon, Mr J. Hackett, Mr G. Hargraves, Mr C. Waller.

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 5M. ALL TRACK

GENERAL: FROM GCTC MEETING, 14.2.04

Trainer B. Moore advised stewards that pathology tests carried out on MAXCAY following its disappointing performance at the above meeting revealed the horse was dehydrated, and he was of the opinion that this had affected the horse's performance on the day.

FROM ITC MEETING, 11.2.04

Trainer N. Boyle submitted a veterinary certificate following the disappointing performance of SARDULA at the above meeting, and the report stated that the horse had a respiratory disorder, which confirmed that the horse was a roarer.

FROM QTC MEETING, 13.2.04

Trainer A. Bailey was questioned as to the tactics that his rider, G. Colless, had employed on SHE'S VIVACIOUS. Trainer Mr Bailey stated that SHE'S VIVACIOUS was ridden similarly to how the filly was ridden two starts back at Eagle Farm on 7 December, adding that at its previous start at Doomben on 30 January, SHE'S VIVACIOUS had overraced after beginning well from an inside barrier. He also stated that SHE'S VIVACIOUS had now been sent for a spell.

FROM BTC MEETING, 14.2.04

Trainer A. Bailey advised BRITISH LION would now be spelled after the disappointing performance of the mare.

RACE 1: CLEANSWEEP ROADCLEANERS H'CAP - 1110M.

Stewards accepted the explanation of trainer R. Lipp in relation to J. Sharp not being declared as the rider for MARWOOD ROAD by the prescribed time.

STELLINA BELLE, which was fractious in the barriers, jumped away awkwardly.

JESTACLOWN and SAILOR GAL were slow to begin.

Shortly after the start, TEW HOGAS shifted in, which resulted in STELLINA BELLE having to be steadied off the heels of that gelding. R. Morris, rider of TEW HOGAS, was reprimanded and advised that he must provide more clearance when crossing.

For some distance approaching the 800m., JESTACLOWN commenced to overrace and had to be steadied off the heels of STELLINA BELLE.

Near the 700m., MARWOOD ROAD commenced to overrace and had to be steadied off the heels of MISS WAZOWSKI.

Passing the 300m., TEW HOGAS shifted out, taking HANDSOME MARK out on to STELLINA BELLE, which made contact with JESTACLOWN, which became unbalanced.


RACE 2: JWP PROJECTS H'CAP - 1350M.

PIKAPENE and MAYFLY jumped away awkwardly.

Approaching the first turn, MAYFLY had a tendency to lay in and had to be steadied away from PIKAPENE.

Stewards questioned apprentice T. Pannell, rider of KITNAT, regarding his riding tactics from the 600m. until the home turn. T. Pannell stated he was instructed to have the horse balanced at all times and as a result he elected not to make a run until shortly after entering the straight. Mr M. Hawkes, representing T. Pannell, was not entirely critical of T. Pannell's ride, in that had he improved his position earlier he would have been obliged to race wide. The explanations were noted.


RACE 3: CITY PACIFIC H'CAP - 1200M.

MONABELLE jumped away awkwardly.

ANOTHER TAAN bucked shortly after the start, dislodging its rider, K. Pope. Trainer L. Hatch was advised ANOTHER TAAN would be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to its next race start. A veterinary examination of ANOTHER TAAN failed to reveal any abnormality.

D. Evans, rider of MISS STRONGHOLD, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out right to the finish line.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of CLANGING, S. Galloway stated that the mare jumped well, however commenced to overrace leaving the 900m., and a short distance later commenced to hang out for the remainder of the event. S. Galloway's comments were noted. A swab sample was taken from CLANGING following a veterinary examination which failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 4: PINEAPPLE HOTEL H'CAP - 1200M.

As A. Kennedy was indisposed, A. Best was substituted as the rider of BREAKFAST TALK and R. Goltz as the rider of MOROCCAN BOY in race 5.

Approaching the first turn, MIMAN BIRDY and RIGHT SPICE raced in restricted room for some distance to the inside of MARKET MAGIC.

EXPRESS MESSENGER, which finished near the tail of the field, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon with no abnormalities reported.
RACE 5: A BUS FOR MOUNT OLIVET H'CAP - 2030M.

As C. Spry was indisposed, L. Morrison was substituted as the rider of EARLSTOUN GRACE.

As J. Powell was to be overweight, M. Carson was substituted as the rider of HENRY THE OCTOPUS and C. Whiteley as the rider of HILLGOVE EXPRESS (Race 8). J. Powell was fined $200.

Nearing the winning post on the first occasion, BROHMAN had to be steadied off the heels of MOROCCAN BOY, which was inclined to shift in despite the efforts of its rider.

Approaching the 300m., HENRY THE OCTOPUS was momentarily held up for clear running behind the tiring BE NICE.

R. Goltz reported that MOROCCAN BOY hung in throughout the event.

D. Coleman, rider of SNOW HAWK, was reprimanded for his use of the whip on a horse out of contention in the straight.

Trainer A. Bailey and G. Colless were questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ANDAHOY. G. Colless stated that he was instructed to go forward from his wide alley, and after obtaining the lead shortly after the start, the gelding travelled well until the 800m. when placed under pressure to go forward. G. Colless further added that ANDAHOY commenced to hang in and then approaching the home turn made contact with the running rail. A. Bailey stated that it was his intention to spell ANDAHOY immediately. A veterinary examination of ANDAHOY revealed the horse to have sustained a small laceration to the off stifle. A swab sample was taken from ANDAHOY.


RACE 6: NORTHERN CITY FINANCE H'CAP - 1630M.

Trainer N. Stewart was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for ZIP IT UP by the prescribed time.

JUST MACCA was checked on jumping away between KAAPBET and TELE SERIES, which was taken in by INITIAL CHIEF.

SOVEREIGN SPUR jumped outwards at the start, hampering SILVERZAM.

Near the 100m., CARBONNE was accidentally struck over the head by the whip of A. Best, rider of DANISKY.


RACE 7: KOKODA FOR A CLAUSE H'CAP - 1110M.

ZEDATZI and PANZER made contact on jumping away.

OUR MR. POMPEII jumped away awkwardly.

Near the 50m., HUEY shifted out, inconveniencing OUR MR. POMPEII.




RACE 8: NCF SPORTSBET BREAKFAST SHOW H'CAP - 1350M.

Approaching the 1100m., TWANGED shifted in momentarily, resulting in HILLGROVE EXPRESS racing in restricted room and making heavy contact with the running rail and becoming unbalanced. At the same stage, CRUSHED ICE commenced to overrace and shifted in, causing DON CASTELLO to be steadied.



ALL WINNERS, CLANGING AND ANDANDAHOY WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
