BRISBANE TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT WED.17.3.04

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr J. Hackett (Chairman), Mr A. Reardon, Mr G. Hargraves, Mr D. Hensler, Mr C. Clifford.

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 2.5M. ALL TRACK


RACE 1: JIMBOUR WINES H'CAP - 1350M.

SERIOUS HERO jumped outwards at the start and made contact with LINEHAUL.

TE RAPA BOY was caught wide in the early stages and approaching the first turn when racing 4 wide made contact with MISS LA TAR. TE RAPA BOY was then obliged to race wide for the remainder of the race before tiring in the straight.

Rounding the home turn, MISS LA TAR shifted out to improve and made contact with LINEHAUL.

DINAMIRA was inclined to lay out on straightening and made contact with MONEY WALKS.

ARID MISS was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.

TE RAPA BOY raced wide throughout the race.

Stewards questioned C. Spry as to whether he had ridden 2nd placegetter ARID MISS right out to the finish line. C. Spry stated that his mount appeared to resent the whip, however he did not stop riding prior to the line. After examining the video and considering his explanation, stewards were satisfied C. Spry had not breached the rules.

When questioned concerning the disappointing performance of DINAMIRA, trainer's representative Mr M. Hawkes stated the horse had worked well in preparation for today's race, however the horse was disappointing and could offer no excuses. Apprentice T. Pannell stated that the horse was able to lead easily, however when he endeavoured to settle the horse it resented being restrained and got its head up and had a tendency to lay out. Mr Hawkes felt that the horse may not have been suited over the 1350m. and would recommend that it be brought back in distance, and he would consider adding blinkers in an effort to have the filly race more genuinely. A veterinary examination of DINAMIRA failed to reveal any abnormality.


RACE 2: SANYO POINT OF SALE H'CAP - 1110M.

BLONDE MOMENT jumped away awkwardly, and after travelling a short distance was hampered by HIP HOP ANONYMOUS, which forced it out on to the hind quarters of LA PIC.

EBONY LAD jumped away awkwardly and ran outwards at the start.

M. Rice, rider of LEGCAPA, was severely reprimanded for shifting in when not clear of IVORS LASS near the 900m.,which resulted in IVORS LASS being taken in on to HIP HOP ANONYMOUS, which became unbalanced. LA PIC and BLONDE MOMENT, which was racing in restricted room inside GREAT COMMANDER, which was inclined to shift in, were also tightened for room in this incident, and BLONDE MOMENT had to be checked as a result.

When questioned in relation to the riding tactics on EBONY LAD in the early stages, S. Seamer stated that after jumping away awkwardly he allowed the horse to balance, however in the early stages was caught extremely wide from his wide barrier and as he had been instructed to find a position midfield he was unsuccessful approaching the first turn and was then obliged to race wide for the remainder of the race. Trainer T. Whittington confirmed the instructions that he had requested the horse be ridden midfield, however agreed that S. Seamer was a victim of circumstances when caught wide from its outside barrier. The explanation was noted.

LA PIC lost its off hind plate in running.


RACE 3: PENFOLDS H'CAP - 2020M.

SISSANO was caught 4 wide making the first turn and was obliged to race wide until passing the 1400m..

Leaving the 1400m., TAMORRON commenced to overrace.

Shortly after straightening, TAMARRON, which was inclined to lay in, made contact with DEAD CAT BOUNCE on a number of occasions. TAMARRON continued to lay in over the concluding stages, preventing S. Galloway from fully testing his mount.

KINGSRULE was inclined to shift ground over the concluding stages.

When questioned in relation to the disappointing performance of DEAD CAT BOUNCE, J. Powell stated that he endeavoured to hold a forward position rounding the first turn, however after allowing other runners to progress forward, the horse settled and travelled well in running until when asked for an effort on straightening, the horse did not respond. Trainer D. Forster advised that DEAD CAT BOUNCE would now be spelled.

Trainer N. Doyle advised stewards that whilst CONFLICTING had worked hard in the early stages, he was of the opinion that he horse had come to the end of its preparation and would be spelled.

A veterinary examination of RETAKE following the race revealed the horse had sustained injuries above the near eye and nose, which resulted in the horse bleeding. A veterinary examination confirmed that this was as a result of trauma as it was evidenced that the horse had injured itself travelling to the racecourse. Following an inquiry into the circumstances, trainer P. Stanley was found of a charge under AR 140(a), in that he failed to notify stewards of a condition that may have had some effect on the performance of RETAKE. P. Stanley was found guilty of the charge and was fined the sum of $400.


RACE 4: IGT H'CAP - 1200M.

JADE VICTORY was examined prior to the race after taking charge of its rider during the preliminary. JADE VICTORY was passed fit to start.

KAYEZED jumped away awkwardly and J. Byrne's left shoulder made heavy contact with the barrier partition. At the conclusion of the race, J. Byrne dismounted from KAYEZED and after receiving medical attention was transported to hospital with a shoulder injury. In accordance with the powers under AR 142, stewards declared correct weight in J. Byrne's absence. J. Byrne was subsequently replaced by J. Stanley on LORD VASEY in race 5, A. Kennedy on BLOODSTONE in race 6, J. Powell on ROYAL ENTOURAGE in race 7, K. Pope on CRAIGLEA WARRIOR in race 8.

JADE VICTORY jumped away awkwardly, losing ground at the start.

MIDDLE CLASS also jumped awkwardly and raced ungenerously in the early stages.

For some distance approaching the home turn, KAYEZED attempted to improve to the outside of the heels of LAMELLAR however was prevented from doing so by JADE VICTORY, which raced tight to its outside.

Shortly after straightening, OCTAZURE shifted out to improve and made contact with PEACEFUL HONOUR.

Approaching the 200m., KAYEZED shifted out to improve and made contact with JADE VICTORY.


RACE 5: ALH HOTEL GROUP H'CAP - 1350M.

No incidents.


RACE 6: BOTTLEMART H'CAP - 1010M.

GEM OF THE SOUTH jumped inwards at the start, making contact with COSTELLO.

A short distance later, COSTELLO then shifted in, making heavy contact with ABOLITION, forcing that horse in on to TUOTHA, which became unbalanced when it brushed the hind quarters of KOOTENAY.

When racing in restricted room near the 600m., ABOLITION became unbalanced when it made contact with COSTELLO.

Approaching the 600m., INDIGESTION and COSTELLO made contact.

When questioned in relation to ABOLITION not running on over the concluding stages, apprentice T. Pannell stated that whilst it was intended the horse settle back in the field, the horse resented being buffeted in the early stages, however after leaving the 800m., the horse travelled satisfactorily until straightening, and when placed under pressure, in his opinion, the horse did not respond under its big weight and compounded over the final 200m. and he felt that the horse's condition ran out, having its first run for ABOLITION for 4 months. A veterinary examination of ABOLITION failed to reveal any abnormality.




RACE 7: BIMBADGEN ESTATE WINES H'CAP - 1010M.

VAIN HALO was scratched on veterinary advice at 8.50 a.m.. Trainer G. Heinrich undertook to provide a veterinary certificate for the gelding.

J. Stanley was fined the sum of $100 for failing to make the weigh on ALLEZ JOIE. B. Stewart was substituted as the rider of ALLEZ JOIE.

MISS GOLDIE HAWN was held up for clear running in the straight until after leaving the 100m..


RACE 8: BUNDABERG RUM H'CAP - 1615M.

LEADER OF THE PACK shifted out shortly after the start, forcing CRAIGLEA WARRIOR out on to SNOWY WEATHER.

SWEET CONNECTIONS had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.

IT'S GRAND was inclined to pull hard in the early and middle stages.

DON CASTELLO was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.


ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
