SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:
As M. Radecker, who was currently serving a suspension, had accepted riding engagements, replacements were made as per the stewards’ raceday summary. Following an explanation from herself and her master Mr P. Duff, no penalty was imposed due to extenuating circumstances.
As M. Cahill was ill, riding replacements were made as per the stewards’ raceday summary.
Race 1: CANTERBURY GOODBYE & GOODLUCK 0MW LY H’CAP – 1615M
1st – Soul Diva 2nd – Poppy Power 3rd - Aerosol 4th – Two Dancers
M. Carson was notified late as the rider of DANAZEEVA. Following an explanation from trainer R. McKay, no penalty was imposed.
FOURWINNERS (1st Emerg) was a late scratching at 11.30 a.m. as there was no rider available.
MUSHOOD was a late scratching at 11.45 a.m. when C. Spry was delayed in traffic travelling to the racecourse and there was no rider available.
PRINCE PUZZLE (R. McMahon), DANISHED (R. Mason) and DANAZEEVA (M. Carson) were all slow to jump.
MARLENE GAYE (M. Palmer) was caught wide rounding the first turn and was obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.
RULE BY RIGHT (R. Plumb) was inclined to lay out under pressure in the run to the finish.
Race 2: QUEENSLAND RUGBY CLASSIC H’CAP – 1010M
1st – A Little Naughty 2nd – Naval Seal 3rd – Maxy Legs 4th – Picture Book
A. Pattillo was substituted as the rider of JESTER’S DANCE as J. Bowditch had accepted a dual engagement. J. Bowditch was fined $100 under LR. 51(1) for accepting two rides in this race.
CALHOUN (S. Seamer) was caught wide after the start and raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 3: BARTERCARD MISS V8 SUPERCAR QTIS H’CAP – 1200M
1st - Brambletye 2nd – Go Sequalo 3rd – Xanadu Chamber 4th – Diamonds Am I
VERSA VICE (S. Scriven) was slow to jump.
XANADU CHAMBER (S. Katsidis) and STIPULATION (P. Wolfgram) were tightened on jumping away between PLACHUTTA (G. Colless), which shifted out slightly, and REONMAY (R. Plumb) which jumped inwards.
KING’S CRUSADE (C. Spry) jumped out at the start and made contact with SEQUENTIAL CHARM (R. McMahon). A short distance later DIAMONDS AM I (J. Byrne) shifted in and made contact with SEQUENTIAL CHARM, forcing SEQUENTIAL CHARM back in on to KING’S CRUSADE.
TELBRON GOLD (J. Bowditch) and THREE CHANCES (S. Seamer) came together on jumping away.
TELBRON GOLD, FALCONTEN (S. Galloway) and THREE CHANCES all raced wide throughout.
Passing the 600m MONO MAC (M. Morris) commenced to pull hard and improved to the inside of the heels of REONMAY where there was insufficient room and had to be steadied.
SEQUENTIAL CHARM had to be eased to avoid the heels of MONO MAC passing the 200m when that horse shifted out to improve. Apprentice M. Morris, the rider of MONO MAC, was cautioned and instructed to take greater measures to keep his mounts straight in the run to the finish.
The Club’s veterinary surgeon reported that UNCLE MAX pulled up lame in the near foreleg.
Race 4: SUNCORP QIMR SKIN CANCER LABORATORIES QTIS H’CAP – 1350M
1st – My Son Day 2nd – Harley George 3rd – Nasrullah’s Girl 4th – What A Tale
Trainer B. McLachlan was fined $100 under LR 70 for failing to declare S. Galloway as the rider of GOTCHA COVERED by the prescribed time.
HARLEY GEORGE (S. Katsidis) blundered on jumping away.
SLUGGER (R. Plumb), DANELAND (A. Pattillo) and KANPEKI (M. Palmer) all missed the start.
MISS GOLDEN GIRL (J. Bowditch) jumped in at the start forcing NASRULLAH’S GIRL (J. Byrne) in on to GOTCHA COVERED (S. Galloway).
Approaching the 1200m KANPEKI improved quickly to the inside of the heels of LINE BY LINE (G. Colless), and in doing so tightened DANELAND, which had to be steadied and lost its position.
Near the 800m MY SON DAY (R. Mason) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of GOTCHA COVERED which shifted in.
INDOMATO (C. Spry) displaced its nearside hind leg bandage near the 800m.
MISS GOLDEN GIRL (J. Bowditch), HARLEY GEORGE, DANELAND and KANPEKI were all obliged to race wide throughout.
Passing the 700m WELCOME SITE (M. Morris) improved on to the heels of WHAT A TALE (S. Seamer) and raced ungenerously.
Near the 300m MY SON DAY, when shifting out to improve, brushed the shoulder of the tiring MISS GOLDEN GIRL.
Race 5: TRINITY CUP 2MW LY – 2020M
1st – Bikkie Tin Blues 2nd – Classic Karla 3rd – Maizy May 4th – Oliver’s Magic
Permission was granted for C. Spry to ride ULTIMATE COMMAND half a kilogram overweight. C. Spry was fined $100 under AR. 120(b).
SEVEN CROWNIES (G. Colless) jumped out at the start and inconvenienced ARGYLE LASS (S. Galloway).
HANALEI BAY (S. Seamer) was slow to jump.
CLASSIC KARLA (M. Morris) was tightened at the start between AQUA D’OR (R. McMahon) and MAIZY MAY (M. Palmer), both of which shifted ground.
AQUA D’OR, HARBOUR MAGIC (S. Katsidis) and CRIMEWAVE (R. Plumb) were all caught wide in the early and middle stages.
G. Colless reported that SEVEN CROWNIES hung out throughout the race. A post-race veterinary examination of SEVEN CROWNIES failed to reveal any abnormalities.
M. Rodd, the rider of DOWN TO EARTH dropped his whip just prior to the winning post.
Race 6: AUSDECK PATIOS & ROOFING 1MW LY – 1350M
1st – Western Brace 2nd - Generalissimo 3rd – Top Marc 4th – Cut A Caper
TOP MARC (R. McMahon) was slow to jump.
KING’S COUP (C. Spry) dipped on jumping away.
A short distance after the start KANES CROSSING (S. Galloway) shifted in and bumped APPERTAIN (R. Plumb).
STARS O’ GOLD (S. Seamer) and KING’S COUP raced wide throughout.
When questioned as to the somewhat disappointing performance of LILLABIDDY, J. Byrne stated that whilst the horse overraced for a short distance in the early stages, it then travelled well until near the 600m where the horse then raced under pressure and failed to respond to his riding from that point onward. He was of the opinion that the horse had stepped up in class today from racing against its own sex in recent starts and felt that this class rise may have had some effect. A post-race veterinary examination of LILLABIDDY failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 7: QUEENSLAND RAIL FLYING – 1110M
1st - Anca 2nd - Suubird 3rd – San Franfrisco 4th - Panzer
As B. Stewart had been stood down by the Club’s medical officer, A. Pattillo was substituted as the rider of MY BEST TYCOON, and M. Carson as the rider of UDDER BRILLIANCE (Race 8).
HIALEAH STAR (S. Seamer) and TESTIFY (M. Palmer) raced wide throughout.
Race 8: TOOHEYS NEW H’CAP – 1350M
1st – Feelin Dandy 2nd – Birthday Bash 3rd - Hamah 4th – Mining Silver
Permission was given for B. Pengelly to replace M. Radecker as the rider of FEELIN DANDY when no apprentice was available.
LUST FOR VICTORY (R. Mason) failed to jump with the field and lost ground at the start. Connections of LUST FOR VICTORY were advised that a final warning would be placed against the horse.
UDDER BRILLIANCE (M. Carson) commenced to pull hard leaving the 800m when the pace slowed and near the 700m had to be eased away from the heels of MINING SILVER (J. Bowditch).
