Race 1: CITY PACIFIC FINANCE 1MW H’CAP – 1630M
1st – Nevada Gambler 2nd – Our Private Jet 3rd – Big Kea 4th – Cut A Caper

A pre-race veterinary examination of SMARTEN CLASSY revealed that the horse was fit to race.

DANAZEEVA (M. Palmer) was slow to begin.

BRANDY CRUSTER (B. Payne) jumped awkwardly.

DANAZEEVA brushed the running rail near the 1400m.

R. Plumb, the rider of LINDHOLME, dropped his whip near the 600m.

Near the 300m NEVADA GAMBLER (M. Radecker) shifted out to improve and brushed KANES CROSSING (P. Wolfgram), which was tiring.

Stewards questioned trainer B. Baldwin and A. Merritt in relation to OUR PRIVATE JET racing closer to the leader AEROSOL (J. Byrne) today than had been anticipated. B. Baldwin stated that he did instruct A. Merritt to have the horse positioned forward as it has raced well when close to the lead in the past, however he felt that the horse may have been a little closer than anticipated. A. Merritt stated that he elected to race in close proximity to AEROSOL as he did not want that horse dictating the tempo of the race to suit itself, and he elected to keep his mount in close proximity. He added that he did not anticipate AEROSOL compounding on the home turn, which forced him to make his run to the finish earlier than he had hoped. The explanation was noted.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of AEROSOL, J. Byrne stated that the horse may not have backed up from its previous start as it raced under pressure from the 800m and compounded at the 500m. Trainer P. Laycock expressed his disappointment in the run and indicated that the horse would now be sent for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination of AEROSOL failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.

Race 2: FCm TRAVEL SOLUTIONS 3YO QTIS H’CAP – 1630M
1st – My Centurion 2nd – Giddyup Groova 3rd – Razydancer 4th – Way Of The World

TORINO LUGE (P. Wolfgram) jumped away awkwardly.

PRINCESS NORMA (A. Pattillo) was a little slow to begin.

COTTON FINGERS (J. Taylor) commenced to overrace passing the 1400m.

TORINO LUGE commenced to lay out under pressure leaving the 300m, and approaching the 200m bumped the hind quarters of MANYIRGUNS (B. Payne).

Stewards questioned trainer M. Webb and jockey A. Pattillo as to the disappointing performance of PRINCESS NORMA, which failed to finish the race off as expected. M. Webb stated that the only explanation he could offer was that the horse had previously not started at Doomben and may not have been suited to racing here today. He added that the pattern of the race, whereby it developed into a sprint home, may have had some effect. A. Pattillo stated that the horse did not feel comfortable in the running, that it was inclined to lay out rounding the first turn and again at the 800m and when asked for an effort from the 600m did not respond as it had in the past and felt something may have been amiss. A veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities and a swab sample was taken. Trainer M. Webb undertook to advise stewards of anything that may come to his attention in the days following the event that may have had some effect on the disappointing run.

Race 3: FLIGHT CENTRE 0MW H’CAP – 2200M

Passing the winning post on the first occasion, MOON ECHO (A. Spinks) commenced to overrace when being restrained behind OLYMPIC TIME (A. Pattillo).

SUNDAY ADIEU (J. Bowditch) got its head up and was inclined to overrace for some distance leaving the 1400m.

Race 4: FLIGHT CENTRE BUSINESS TRAVEL MARES H’CAP – 1110M
1st – Rock On Bye 2nd - Persuades 3rd – Stepping 4th - Schapelle

MILADY MATTY (S. Galloway) jumped in at the start and made contact with ROCK ON BYE (G. Colless).

Apprentice M. Price, the rider of PARTYING, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 1000m she permitted her mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of CORTIGIANA (J. Taylor), resulting in that horse having to be checked and taken in on to MEANMA (L. Morrison). M. Price’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, with the period of suspension to commence at midnight on Tuesday, 8 August, and expire at midnight on Saturday, 19 August 2006. PARTYING then raced wide throughout.

PARADISE DANCER (R. Plumb) and STEPPING (M. Morris) raced wide throughout.

Approaching the 600m RIVIERA SUR MER (S. Drake) had to be steadied after improving on to the heels of PICABELLE (M. Cahill).

RIVIERA SUR MER lost its nearside hind plate in running.

A. Pattillo dismounted from COCCOLARE following the event and reported to stewards that the horse was fractious in the barriers and he injured his neck. A. Pattillo was examined by the Club’s medical officer who reported that A. Pattillo was not fit to take his remaining rides and was replaced in Race 5 by K. Forrester on HARBOUR MAGIC, and by M. LIGHTNING JOHANN (M. Morris) and BRAEBROOK (J. Taylor) were a little slow to begin.

Near the 300m HALLUCE’S DEVOTION (M. Palmer) was disappointed for a run between TUDOR QUEST (M. Carson) and CENTENN which shifted out. HALLUCE’S DEVOTION was then obliged to alter course to the inside of CENTENN to obtain clear running.

Approaching the 200m BRO (R. Mason) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of REJUVENATE LASS (G. Colless) which, after being held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight, shifted out to improve into clear running.

Leaving the 100m TUDOR QUEST had to be steadied when tightened for room between LIGHTNING JOHANN and COMMANDER MONASH (C. Parish) when both horses shifted ground.
