Race 1: ACCESS BLOODSTOCK HIDDEN DRAGON 2MW H’CAP – 1615M
1st – Nevada Gambler 2nd – Seven Crownies 3rd – Colonial Lass 4th - Fourwinners
FOURWINNERS (J. Bowditch) overraced in the early stages.
COLONIAL LASS (B. Payne) was forced to race wide throughout.
Approaching the home turn REGIMENTAL (M. Morris), which was endeavouring to shift out to improve, made contact with PERETTE (S. Seamer).
CRAIGLEA BOB (J. Byrne) was momentarily held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.
Approaching the finishing line CRAIGLEA BOB shifted out under pressure and brushed REGIMENTAL.
Race 2: MEL TANZER 1MW LY H’CAP – 1110M
1st – Rock On Bye 2nd - Suubird 3rd - Piccohi 4th – Hot Cymbal
Trainer S. Birney was fined $50 under AR. 64 for nominating QUADRANGLE for this event when it was ineligible.
SUUBIRD (J. Bowditch) and PICCOHI (J. Taylor) came together on jumping away.
Race 3: THERESA FITZGERALD PROPERTY MANAGEMENT QTIS H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Quizzical Lady 2nd – The Spear 3rd - Shobelle 4th – The Guardian
On jumping away PLAYGROUND EXPRESS (S. Scriven), which was a little slow to begin, was placed in restricted room between EXORBITANT (R. McMahon) and BLUE FOX (J. Byrne), which jumped away awkwardly and shifted in.
Approaching the 1100m PLAYGROUND EXPRESS, which was racing in restricted room to the inside of BLUE FOX, was further crowded by BLUE FOX, which was placed in restricted room by MR DOYLE (M. Morris), which was inclined to shifted in and away from THE SPEAR (J. Bowditch). In this incident PLAYGROUND EXPRESS shifted in and made contact with the hind quarters of EXORBITANT.
Near the 1000m SHOBELLE shifted out and bumped EXORBITANT (R. McMahon).
REONMAY (S. Drake) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Over the concluding stages THE GUARDIAN (G. Lynch) shifted out under pressure and brushed MR DOYLE (M. Morris).
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of BLUE FOX, jockey J. Byrne stated that the horse was crowded for room shortly after the start and was then reluctant to race amongst other runners. He added that the leaders sprinted home in quick time, making it difficult for BLUE FOX to make up any significant ground. Trainer R. McCall was at a loss to explain the horse’s performance other than that the colt may be slightly field shy and he would consider the addition of blinkers before its next start. A post-race veterinary examination of BLUE FOX failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken. Trainer R. McCall undertook to report to stewards anything that may come to light in the days subsequent to the event that may have had a bearing on the performance.
Race 4: TAILS & VEILS H’CAP – 1615M
1st – Nexgen 2nd – Elegant Roi 3rd – Divine Conqueror 4th – Peniki Park
REGAL GAZE was a late scratching at 2:09 p.m. by order of the stewards acting on the advice of the Club’s veterinary surgeon. On the annoncement of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on REGAL GAZE be refunded, with deductions of 24 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets and 18 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets. Trainer R. Craig was advised that prior to REGAL GAZE’s next start he must produce a full veterinary clearance for the gelding.
I’M SO CAVALIER (P. Wolfgram) was slow to begin.
NEXGEN (S. Drake) was inclined to overrace in the early stages.
Race 5: THONGS & THINGS G’DAY MATE 0MW H’CAP 1200M
1st – Miss Clang 2nd – Tornadic Sky 3rd – Frisco’s Lass 4th – Chesterman
Trainer J. Wallace was fined $50 under AR. 64 for nominating FADE for this event when it was ineligible.
THE BIG EASY (K. Forrester) jumped out at the start taking COMMON KNOWLEDGE (P. Wolfgram) out on to YOUNG LION (M. Palmer), which in turn shifted out and made contact with ENGINEER (J. Byrne), which shifted out and bumped PAMELA JEAN (J. Taylor).
ORRONG (S. Scriven) was forced to race wide throughout.
Shortly after straightening MISS CLANG (M. Radecker) shifted out, taking REGAL EVENT (R. McMahon) out on to COMMON KNOWLEDGE, which momentarily inconvenienced ENGINEER.
Near the 150m REGAL EVENT shifted out slightly and brushed COMMON KNOWLEDGE.
When questioned regarding the performance of YOUNG LION, apprentice M. Palmer stated that after being inconvenienced on jumping away, he was obliged to apply pressure to YOUNG LION to take a forward position and when obtaining a position outside the leader the horse was inclined to race keenly in the early and middle stages. He added that the horse was under pressure shortly after straightening. Trainer T. Sears informed stewards that the horse would be sent for an immediate spell.
Race 6: GREG GRANT SADLERY TRADING H’CAP – 1010M
1st – Mr Sequential 2nd - Sequallan 3rd – Short Way 4th - Rashini
As M. Cahill was to be overweight, K. Forrester was substituted as the rider of MR SEQUENTIAL, and J. Taylor was substituted as the rider of UNITE AND PROSPER (Race 8). M. Cahill was fined $400 under AR. 120(b).
Trainer W. King was advised that DIME would be required to trial in an official barrier trial prior to its next start as that gelding proved difficult to parade to the barriers.
DIME (N. Thomas) jumped away awkwardly an lost considerable ground.
SO CHIC (J. Taylor) was placed in restricted room on jumping away between MAXY LEGS (B. Pengelly) and SEQUALLAN (P. Wolfgram) which shifted out.
RASHINI (M. Radecker) was forced to race wide throughout.
Near the 600m JUDANZO (R. Mason) had to be steadied when placed in restricted room inside CAROLINA’S BOY (J. Bowditch) which shifted in. J. Bowditch was reprimanded.
MR SEQUENTIAL (K. Forrester) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
Inside the 100m SEQUALLAN was inclined to lay in under pressure.
Race 7: FOLDING BENCH AUSTRALIA QUALITY – 1350M
1st - Anca 2nd - Enthusiast 3rd - Panzer 4th - Starlactic
NATURAL BLITZ (M. Cahill) was a little slow to begin.
ASHKABAR (J. Taylor), which was a little slow to begin, was inconvenienced shortly after the start by STARLACTIC (R. McMahon) which shifted in.
When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on ASHKABAR today, jockey J. Taylor stated that the instructions were to have the horse forward if possible, however after being a little slow to begin, the gelding was unable to muster any early speed and as he had been crossed he elected to settle the horse back, but the horse was inclined to overrace in the middle stages and failed to run on. His explanation was noted.
A post-race veterinary examination of WORDS OF MAGIC revealed that the gelding had a small abrasion inside its mouth.
Race 8: QUEENSLAND RACING INDUSTRY AWARDS 1MW H’CAP – 1350M
1st – Noble Gaze 2nd - Buzz 3rd - Kutalo 4th – Manilla Boy
MIKAN (M. Palmer) was slow to begin.
Shortly after the start TELEGRAND (S. Seamer) shifted out and brushed KUTALO (M. Morris).
TELEGRAND was forced to race wide throughout.
BUZZ (M. Radecker) was forced to race wide in the middle stages.
Near the 300m MANILLA BOY (J. Bowditch), which was endeavouring to obtain a run to the outside of KUTALO, shifted out and made contact with TELEGRAND.
