Leaving the 950m, AREMAC (T. Pannell) shifted out slightly and brushed GONDWANA GIRL (S. Apthorpe). AREMAC then shifted in abruptly, making heavy contact with AURTOBE (B. SLAVE KING (L. Fyfe) also jumped outwards at the start and made contact with FINAL OPINION (K. Pope).

Near the 550m, MATAMORE (P. Wolfgram) had to be checked when racing between SLAVE KING (L. Fyfe), which brushed the running rail and shifted out, and CAPTAIN LIGHTNING, which shifted in momentarily. Whilst stewards found that the incident was caused by a combination of movement from both SLAVE KING and CAPTAIN LIGHTNING, R. Plumb, rider of CAPTAIN LIGHTNING, was nonetheless cautioned for permitting his mount to shift in.

Leaving the 300m, PATTIES MATE (B. Payne) was momentarily held up on the heels of SPARKLING WISH (M. Cahill).

NOBLE COLOURS (B. Stewart) hung out badly in running. Connections were advised that the horse will be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

POMMARD (R. Plumb) got its head up and was inclined to overrace after leaving the 800m.

Leaving the 300m, AQUA PROFONDEUX (D. Barron) was inclined to shift out under pressure. The horse continued to shift ground under pressure over the concluding stages.

PRINCE ZULU (J. Byrne) hung out over the concluding stages.

Race 5: Chalk Hotel Fashions On The Field Class 4 H’cap – 1350m
1st – Chevron Island 2nd – La Belle Vitesse 3rd – Bloomin Lovely 4th – Splendid Fellow

CHEVRON ISLAND (M. Morris) jumped out at the start, taking LA BELLE VITESSE (N. Tomizawa) out on to ELYSIAN FIELD (G. Auckram).

LA BELLE VITESSE (N. Tomizawa) and HARLIN (J. Bowditch) were both held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.

After leaving the 300m, HARLIN (J. Bowditch) was disappointed for a run between FIGHTER PILOT (S. Seamer) and SPLENDID FELLOW (M. Price).

N. Tomizawa, rider of LA BELLE VITESSE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that passing the 200m he rode in a careless manner by permitting his mount to shift out when not sufficiently clear of HARLIN, causing that horse to be checked and lose its position. N. Tomizawa was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 19 October, and to expire at midnight, 2 November 2006.

Near the 100m, M. Morris, rider of CHEVRON ISLAND, was obliged to stop riding and straighten his mount due to the gelding having a tendency to shift inwards.

HARLIN was unable to obtain clear running in the straight.

Race 6: Thanks Steve Lines Class 3 Plate – 1640m
1st – Golden Whistler 2nd – Jimidean 3rd – Diamond Bullet 4th – Obesure

JIMIDEAN (S. Katsidis) jumped inwards at the start, bumping DIAMOND BULLET (A. Spinks).

SUPERCILIOUS (M. Bennett) was inclined to overracing rounding the first turn.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of OBESURE, M. Cahill stated that the horse did not seem to relax today travelling to the barriers and felt that the horse was not as settled as it was at its previous start when winning at Eagle Farm on 2 October. He added that the horse had a tendency to hang in in running and felt that the OBESURE would benefit with maturity. Trainer S. Dwyer confirmed that the horse had taken some time to mature and felt that OBESURE may have come to the end of its preparation, and he advised it would now be sent to the spelling paddock. A veterinary examination of OBESURE failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.

A warning was issued to the connections of VIVE LE ROI, which proved difficult to load.

GOTCHA COVERED (K. Forrester), ROTARIAN (S. Katsidis) and SESACIOUS (C. Spry) were all severely buffetted on jumping away between PICAFIGHT (A. Spinks), which jumped inwards, and VIVE LE ROI (M. Cahill), which jumped away awkwardly and shifted out.

RUM STRIKER (D. Green) was slow to begin.

DOUBLE BIS (K. Wharton) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with TIME LION (S. Seamer).

FERRINKO (J. Byrne) jumped away awkwardly and brushed ALTERNATE (J. Bowditch).

A. Spinks, rider of PICAFIGHT (A. Spinks) was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in after leaving the 800m, resulting in ROTARIAN (S. Katsidis) having its racing room restricted and becoming unbalanced.

SESACIOUS (C. Spry) raced wide for the majority of the race.

FERRINKO hung in badly throughout running, and in the straight the horse raced untractably, preventing J. Byrne from testing his mount. Trainer K. Kemp indicated that the horse would now be spelled and he undertook to trial the horse before its next race start.
