SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

From BTC meeting, 17.5.08

Mr R. Flemming, foreman for trainer J. B. Cummings, was advised that a fine of $1000 would be imposed for presenting VIEWED to race in the Doomben Cup (Race 7) without a lead bag which necessitated the horse being resaddled. AR140A.

As S. Galloway was ill, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.

Race 1: Hardy Brothers 2mw Last Year H’cap – 1615m
1st – La Salle 2nd – Rags To Riches 3rd – Dawn’s Pride 4th – Go Gazza

On jumping away, MONASEECI (R. Wiggins) and OUR JANGLES (J. Taylor) came together.

Shortly after the start, OUR JANGLES (J. Taylor), and LANCASTER PARK (J. Byrne) were tightened for room between RUNNING RICH (S. Seamer), which shifted out slightly, and MONASEECI, which shifted in.

TAKE THE PLEA (R. McMahon) and RAGS TO RICHES (G. Colless) brushed on jumping away.

MONASEECI overraced in the early and middle stages.

Inside the final 100m, BELLES OPINION (K. Wharton) and GO GAZZA (B. El-Issa) brushed on several occasions.

Passing the 100m, OUR JANGLES was obliged to alter course to avoid the heels of TAKE THE PLEA, which shifted in slightly.

DAWN’S PRIDE (D. Oliver) and GO GAZZA raced wide throughout.


Race 2: Sita Environmental 2yo Doomben Slipper 1350m
1st – Youthful Jack 2nd – Acorns 3rd – Adnocon 4th – Smart ‘N’ Crafty

TIKIT TO GLORY (G. Schofield) jumped outwards at the start and lost ground.

STAINGLASS (H. Bowman) jumped inwards at the start and bumped SMART ‘N’ CRAFTY (R. Wiggins).

RED FELT (R. Thompson) was slow to begin.

ADNOCON (J. Taylor) was forced to raced wide in the early stages and as a result pushed forward to take up a position outside the leader STAINGLASS.

A post-race veterinary examination of CHOOSE A STAR failed to reveal any abnormalities.

The club’s veterinary surgeon also reported that HAROLD had sustained a cut to the near hind stifle.

Race 3: Air New Zealand Class 6 Plate – 1350m
1st – Sir Xaar 2nd – Rightson 3rd – Mr Slick 4th - Columate

SIR XAAR (R. Wiggins) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, making heavy contact with ELEGANT ROI (M. Radecker).

BASE DANCER (K. Wharton) was slow to begin.

On jumping away, EQUATES (S. Seamer) shifted in and made contact with RIGHTSON (B. El-Issa). EQUATES then shifted out, tightening MAIN VEIN (G. Colless).

Passing the 900m, MAIN VEIN improved up on to the heels of RIGHTSON and had to be steadied.

COLUMATE (G. Schofield) had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.

D. Griffin, rider of COCKTAIL SUPREME, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 200m, after initially being held up behind SIMPLEX (R. McMahon), he directed his mount to the inside of that horse where there was insufficient room, which resulted in VOCALIC (P. Wolfgram) being tightened for room and shifting in, forcing ELEGANT ROI (M. Radecker) in on to CHARVICKY (E. Wilkinson), resulting in CHARVICKY having to be checked. D. Griffin was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 9 meetings, to commence at midnight, 25 May, and to expire at midnight, 7 June 2008.

J. Taylor, rider of MR SLICK, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that near the 150m he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of SIMPLEX (R. McMahon), resulting in SIMPLEX having to be checked. J. Taylor was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 25 May and to expire at midnight, 6 June. In assesssing penalty, stewards took into account J .Taylor’s good record in relation to interference related matters.

ELA YE MOU (D. Nikolic) and ELEGANT ROI (M. Radecker) was unable to obtain clear running for the majority of the straight.

ANCIENT IMPULSE (R. Thompson), COCKTAIL SUPREME (D. Griffin) and SIMPLEX (R. McMahon) raced wide throughout.

R. Wiggins, rider of SIR XAAR, reported that he momentarily lost the use of his near-side iron on jumping away.


Race 4: Sky Channel Doomben Dash – 1020m
1st – Mr Aristos 2nd – Babinda Half 3rd – Sectagonal 4th - Sheezvalue

SIR MONASHEE (J. Byrne) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, hampering BITABIFF (S. Seamer).

NESSUNO (R. Thompson) overraced in the early stages.

Passing the 800m, MOMENTOUSLY (K. Wharton) improved up on to the heels of KEY BAR NIGHTS (C. Brown) and had to be steadied. MOMENTOUSLY continued to overrace at that horse’s heels for some distance.

NESSUNO overraced in the early and middle stages.

NESSUNO was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.

A post-race veterinary examination of KEY BAR NIGHTS revealed the filly to be suffering from cardiac arrythmia, and had sustained a laceration to the back of the off fore fetlock, and was sore in the heels of the front feet. Trainer B. McLachlan was advised he must provide to the stewards a veterinary clearance, including the results of an ECG for KEY BAR NIGHTS, and that the filly must also trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

Race 5: City Pacific Finance Premier’s Cup 2200m
1st – Rezone 2nd – Majestic Sight 3rd – Fulmonti 4th - Scattergun

KING LATARMISS (J. Taylor) raced wide in the early stages.

Passing the 300m, SIR SENSIBLE (A. Pattillo) was buffetted between DIAMONDSONDINSIDE (G. Schofield) and THE SPORTSMAN (S. Seamer), which shifted out slightly.

A post-race veterinary examination of FAST FUTURE failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 6: Mullins Lawyers Rough Habit Plate – 2020m
1st – Mission Critical 2nd – Moatize 3rd – My Limit 4th – Formula One Racer

MOATIZE (H. Bowman) and FORMULA ONE RACER (B. Pengelly) were tightened for room on jumping away between NITROGEN (B. Rawiller) and ENCOSTA TSZYU (D. Griffin), which shifted out.

HAVAYARN (A. Pattillo) and CONLEYS CHOICE (D. Nikolic) came together on jumping away.

Near the winning post on the first occasion, HAVAYARN (A. Pattillo) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of FORMULA ONE RACER (B. Pengelly), which was taken out slightly by MISSION CRITICAL (D. Oliver). D. Oliver, rider of MISSION CRITICAL, was advised to exercise more care.

Shortly after straightening, MY LIMIT (S. Scriven) and MOATIZE (H. Bowman) brushed.

CIRCLE OF FAME (G. Schofield) had difficulty obtaining clear running for the majority of the straight.

Over the concluding stages, MOATIZE shifted in and bumped MISSION CRITICAL (D. Oliver).

NITROGEN (B. Rawiller) and ENCOSTA TSZYU raced wide for the majority of the event.

A post-race veterinary examination of CONLEYS CHOICE revealed the colt to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer B. Smith was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance for the colt prior to its next race start.


Race 7: Carlton Draught Doomben 10,000 – 1350m
1st – Apache Cat 2nd – Murtajill 3rd – Turffontein 4th – Juste Momente

LA MONTAGNA, which took charge of its rider when proceeding to the barriers, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

THE JACKAL (R. Thomson), TAN TAT DE LAGO (J. Byrne), HELIDECK (R. McMahon) were all tightened for room on jumping away between MURTAJILL (G. Schofield) and REIGNING TO WIN (H. Bowman), which shifted in. In this incident, THE JACKAL had to be steadied.

D. Oliver, rider of VORMISTA, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that passing the 900m he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of REIGNING TO WIN, which in turn was taken in, tightening THE JACKAL (R Thompson), resulting in THE JACKAL having to be checked, which also shifted in, tightening the running of HARD TO CATCH (B. Stewart), which lost its rightful position. D. Oliver was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 10 meetings, to commence at midnight, 24 May, and to expire at midnight, 9 June 2008.

Approaching the 800m, LA MONTAGNA commenced to hang out and did so for the remainder of the event.

Passing the 700m, REIGNING TO WIN had to be momentarily steadied when tightened for room between TAN TAT DE LAGO (J. Byrne) and LA MONTAGNA (G. Colless), which was hanging out.

A post-race veterinary examination of REIGNING TO WIN failed to reveal any abnormalities.

The club’s veterinary surgeon also reported that LA MONTAGNA, which had pulled up sore in the near fore fetlock, had been galloped on on the point of the right hock, and had a significant amount of track debris in its nostrils.


Race 8: Triple M Gunsynd Quality – 1200m
1st – Woody ‘N’ Buzz 2nd – Another Takeover 3rd – Rapid Jacko 4th – Mr Heartbreaker

MORE ON THE TOE was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon at the barriers and passed fit to start.

PRESS THE BUTTON (J. Taylor) was tightened for room on jumping away between SOMMERSEA DRIVE (A. Pattillo) and SHUDULE GEE (B. El-Issa), which shifted in.

SIMPLEST (J. Byrne) overraced in the early stages.

Shortly after straightening, PRESS THE BUTTON (J. Taylor) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of ROCK IDOL (R. Wiggins), which shifted in.

Passing the 300m, BORSHA’S MARK (S. Scriven), which was shifting out, had to be steadied off the heels of SIMPLEST (J. Byrne), which shifted in slightly.

Jockey G. Geran, rider of AZZALAND, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 250m he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of RAPID JACKO (B. Pengelly), resulting in RAPID JACKO having to be checked. G. Geran was suspended from riding in races for 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 24 May, and to expire at midnight, 6 June 2008.

SHUDULE GEE (B. El-Issa) raced wide throughout.
