Rolls), however at the stage at which it was available his horse was not travelling well enough to make use of that run and shortly after the run closed as a result of MYSTIC VIBE shifting in. This resulted in him having to take hold. S. Katsidis further added he was then unable to ride his mount out in his customary fasion due to the fact that he had SWIFT ‘N’ DAPPER positioned back and to his inside, and that LIFE’S SHORT had a tendency to hang in.

RAZZLED (L. Cassidy) raced wide throughout.

When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of ELSQUARE, D. Brown stated that he had been instructed to lead however the horse failed to show sufficient pace in the early stages to do so. He added that he then was obliged to settle further back in the field than he had anticipated and, in his opinion, ELSQUARE was not comfortable racing in amongst other runners. D. Brown further stated that the gelding overraced during the event and he felt this was another contributing factor in the horse’s poor performance. Trainer B. Hill confirmed the instructions and advised stewards in his opinion the horse failed to show sufficient pace in order to take up its customary position, and that being unable to lead and pulling hard in the early stages contribued to its poor performance. B. Hill undertook to advise stewards of any abnormality that becomes apparent that may have had a bearing on today’s performance.

A. Pattillo, rider of SIONG TEE, was fined $100 for returning to scale overweight as the rider of SIONG TEE.

A post-race veterinary examination of ELSQUARE failed to reveal any abnormalities.
