Rounding the first turn SEETHING DUCK (A. Spinks) displayed a tendency to lay out and had to be steadied from the heels of HELLO CHRISTMAS (L. Cassidy) as a consequence.
SEETHING DUCK then continued to somewhat race ungenerously in the middle stages and near the 500m SEETHING DUCK shifted out making contact with HELLO CHRISTMAS.

Stewards sought an explanation from S. Katsidis the rider of LA ZEEL in regards to the tactics employed on the mare today in particular, the circumstances which led to LA ZEEL settling further back in the field than is its normal pattern of racing. S. Katsidis stated that shortly after the start when CLAVILLO (B. Stewart) assumed the leading position he was of the opinion that he could not cross that horse and decided to settle LA ZEEL in the position outside CLAVILLO. S. Katsidis added that rounding the turn out of the front straight LORD RUPERT (C. Reith) worked forward to his outside and he felt that if he allowed LORD RUPERT to cross LA ZEEL may settle for him after getting cover behind LORD RUPERT. S. Katsidis added that when LORD RUPERT allowed BELL ACADEMY (L. Cassidy), which had been racing 3 wide, to take up a position outside the leader he was then placed back worse than midfield. S. Katsidis further stated that he contemplated improving his position 3 wide from the 600m however, in consideration of the horse’s finishing effort at its last start where it only exhibited a short sprint he felt that it was in LA ZEEL’S best interests to maintain cover and afford it clear running in the straight. His explanation was noted.
A post race veterinary examination of SCATTERGUN revealed the horse to be lame in the near fore fetlock. Trainer B. Smith advised stewards that the horse would now be retired from racing.
Race 4: Aspley Hotel QTIS 3YO H’Cap - 1200m

Trainer B. Wakefield was advised that the horse must obtain 2 barrier certificates prior to racing again.
When questioned regarding the performance of FAB FEVOLA jockey J. Byrne stated that the horse began well and travelled kindly however, after receiving a bump from STARTLING PLEASURE (App M. Hellyer) at the 900m FAB FEVOLA did not impress J. Byrne in the way it travelled in the middle stages and furthermore failed to show its customary acceleration in the home straight and proved disappointing. Trainer B. Guy highlighted that the gelding performed similarly when second up at its last campaign when second to BEVAGNA. A post race veterinary examination of FAB FEVOLA failed to reveal any abnormality.
Following this event S. Galloway was examined by the Club’s Doctor and passed fit to fulfil his remaining engagements.

When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of USE TO BE A DANCER jockey S. Katsidis stated that the horse had a tendency to overrace during the early and middle stages of the event and in his opinion felt this may have affected the horse’s effort over the concluding stages. Trainer B. Guy could not offer any explanation for the horse’s poor performance. A post race veterinary examination of USE TO BE A DANCER revealed no abnormalities.

SOUTHERLY IMPACT then continued to race ungenerously and due to this tendency lost ground rounding the first turn resulting in BLUE JUPITER (S. Katsidis) which was following being inconvenienced.
S. Katsidis rider of BLUE JUPITER stated that the horse began awkwardly today and rather than being trapped wide he made a decision to take up a position at the rear of the field on the fence. S. Katsidis added that due to the horse racing forward of him hanging out and losing ground rounding the first turn he was a considerable distance from the main body of the field placing him at a disadvantage. S. Katsidis stated that the horse finished the race off well and he felt BLUE JUPITER may be looking for a longer distance than today’s event.
S. Seamer the rider of FALCONTEN was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the finish line.

Near the 500m BORSHA’S MARK which continued to lay out had to be checked when it struck the running rail after coming into contact with BACKSTABBER, which momentarily shifted in and away from KELLY (S. Seamer). B. Stewart the rider of BACKSTABBER was advised to allow more room in similar circumstances.
PANDEMONIA was held up rounding the home turn.
