Supplementary Report

Trainer J. Nielson was fined $500 for having 3 unlicensed persons in his employ when stewards visited his stables on 28 October 2009.

Race 1: L. C. Loynes & Associates QTIS 600 2yo H'cap - 1010m
1st – Fusette 2nd – Bust ‘N’ Loose 3rd – Slice And Dice 4th – Reflection Of Jade

WALTZ WITH YOU (J. Taylor) and REFLECTION OF JADE (R. McMahon) brushed on jumping away.

PUBLIC PROSECUTOR (G. Colless) and GOLD SUCCESS (B. Stewart) were slow to begin.

Both PLUM DUFF (A. Spinks) and FLYING MEL (J. Holder) had a tendency to lay out in the middle stages.

HIDE ‘N’ SEEK (M. Palmer), which raced wide throughout, hung out rounding the home turn and over the concluding stages.

SANSIRA (D. Craven) raced wide throughout.

Stewards sought an explanation from jockey M. Cahill in respect of the riding tactics employed on SLICE AND DICE between the 500m and 300m where there appeared to be an opportunity for him to improve his position 3 wide around FLYING MEL (J. Holder). M. Cahill explained that as the horse was having its first start in a race, it did not travell genuinely throughout, which compelled him to urge the horse forward in order to have it travelling and hold a position in the race. M. Cahill further added that he was content to follow FLYING MEL into the race rather than progressing to the outside of that horse and risk being forced wide on the track. M. Cahill explained that once he was able to place SLICE AND DICE into the clear, the colt finished the race off well. Stewards accepted his explanation.

A post-race veterinary examination of GOLD SUCCESS revealed the colt to be lame in the off foreleg and had lost its near fore plate in running. Trainer G. Heinrich was advised that she would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for GOLD SUCCESS prior to its next race start.

Race 2: Concept Window Fashions QTIS 3yo H'cap - 1200m
1st – Captain Sonador 2nd – Rokatoko 3rd –Moama 4th – Fifteen Carat

The start of this race was delayed when TIERQUALO proved very difficult to load. Trainer K. Doughty was advised that TIERQUALO must obtain 2 further barrier certificates prior to its next race start.

FLEET ‘N’ FAST (A. Pattillo) raced wide until a point leaving the 700m.

Approaching the 100m, FLEET ‘N’ FAST (A. Pattillo) had to be steadied when EMMA’S HEART (A. Spinks) shifted in under pressure.

SWISS ROSE (L. Cassidy) raced wide throughout.

When questioned, A. Spinks explained that he was disappointed with the effort of EMMA’S HEART in that he secured a nice run midfield and afforded the horse a clear run in the early stages of the straight, however the filly failed to finish the race off. Trainer B. Brown explained that, in his opinion, the big weight, along with the fast last sectional, may have had a bearing on the performance.

Trainer K. Doughty was found guilty of a charge under AR135A, in that she failed to advise stewards that she instructed Jason Holder to ride TIERQUALO back off the speed which was in contrast to its most recent start. Mrs K. Doughty was fined the sum of $200.

Race 3: Rochele Painting Class 6 Plate - 2100m
1st – Emerald Hill 2nd – Moon Chaser 3rd – Hooray Tobey 4th – Siong Tee

SIONG TEE made the crossing at the 1600m very awkwardly.

Stewards sought an explanation from jockey J. Taylor in respect of the performance of BODY DOUBLE. Jockey Taylor stated that from his awkward barrier he was forced to ride the horse in a more forward position than he would have liked due to being trapped wide in the early stages. However BODY DOUBLE after travelling kindly in the middle stages was under pressure leaving the 600m and failed to respond to his riding thereafter. Trainer R. Lipp explained that the horse’s work had been pleasing leading up to today’s event and he could offer no explanation for the performance of BODY DOUBLE other than the mare was currently in season. A post-race veterinary examination of BODY DOUBLE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

M. Hellyer, rider of MY COUNSEL, which performed below expectations, explained that the mare travelled well until a point leaving the 600m at which stage he attempted to improve, however MY COUNSEL was immediately under pressure and failed to respond to his riding in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination of MY COUNSEL failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 4: SRP Plumbing Open H'cap - 1615m
1st –Sam’s Express 2nd – Sir Kingsford 3rd – Eddie Rapido 4th - Daedalus

SIR KINGSFORD (M. Hellyer) was slow to begin.

KENTISH ROSE (Matthew Palmer) jumped away very awkwardly, almost disloding its rider. As a result, M. Palmer lost the use of his near-side iron for a shoft distance thereafter.

DAEDALUS (L. Cassidy) overraced at the heels of PLENTY OF PRACTISE (J. Bowditch) for a short distance leaving the 1400m.

Jockey M. Speers reported that CRAIGLEA CHARM hung out under pressure in the home straight.

When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of SAM’S EXPRESS, trainer M. Nolan stated that the horse had drawn a more favourable alley in today’s event and was able to settle closer to the fence as opposed to its last 2 starts where it had been wide throughout. He further stated that it was his opinion that today’s distance of 1615m was a more favourable distance for the horse and he was not surprised with the forward showing.

Race 5: Aitkenvale Family Health Centre NMW H'cap – 1615m
1st – Danardos 2nd – Bradfield 3rd – Fond Bond 4th – Lucky Toss

SHOWCITI (B. Stewart) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

MILLERS WHEEL (D. Brown) was slow to begin.

Passing the 1400m, MILLERS WHEEL raced up on to the heels of RIVER PERFUME (L. Rolls) and had to be steadied.

Near the 600m, SHOWCITI (B. Stewart) improved up on to the heels of LUCKY TOSS (L. Cassidy) and had to be steadied.

BEAUTIFUL DAY (T. Pannell) overraced in the early stages of the event.

RIVER PERFUME (L. Rolls) raced wide throughout.

L. Rolls, rider of RIVER PERFUME, explained that he had been instructed to ride RIVER PERFUME from a rearward position but was advised that following its Gold Coast run where it drifted back to the tail of the field, that he would have to take measures to keep the horse in touch with the field today. L. Rolls added that the horse began well and he found himself 3 wide without cover approaching the first turn and RIVER PERFUME was then obliged to race wide for the remainder of the race.
Race 6: Doug Allen Memorial Open H'cap - 1200m
1st – Forestreno 2nd – Ghetto Blaster 3rd – Tellasecret 4th - Vocalic

As M. Cahill was to be overweight on CHIEFCOMINGFIRST (Race 3) and UPILIO, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet. M. Cahill was fined $200.

The strart of this race was delayed due to MR ARISTOS having its near fore plate refitted at the barriers.

GHETTO BLASTER (B. Stewart) began awkwardly.

TELLASECRET (C. Reith) and SOUTHERLY IMPACT (M. Hellyer) made contact on jumping away.

UPILIO (P. Hammersley) overraced for a short distance approaching the first turn.

DAUNTING LAD (D. Craven) and OLLIE VOLLIE (T. Bell) raced wide throughout.

Stewards sought an explanation from jockey K. Banks, rider of BOLD GLANCE, regarding her decision to relinquish the lead to VOCALIC approaching the 800m. K. Banks explained that BOLD GLANCE began well and travelled strongly to the inside of VOCALIC in the early stages, however felt it was not in the gelding’s best interests to make use of it and contest the lead and therefore elected to take a position trailing VOCALIC, which she anticipated wold maintain the lead. K. Banks added that when VOCALIC surrendered the lead to TELLASECRET, this placed her 3 back on the rails. K. Banks further explained that the horse travelled well in that position and ran home reasonably in the straight. Trainer N. Hilton’s representative explained she was satisfied with K. Bank’s decision to take a position trailing VOCALIC as the circumstances of this race differed to that of its most recent start where BOLD GLANCE had been able to lead unchallenged. Mrs Hilton added that the horse had also stepped up in class today and was pleased with its effort. A post-race veterinary examination of BOLD GLANCE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 7: Equine Horse Supplements 1mw H'cap - 1200m
1st – Manic Monday 2nd – Celestafy 3rd – Ice Tee 4th – Gundy Son

SAINT MINERVA (S. Seamer) was slow to begin.

ICE TEA (P. Hammersley) was held up for a short distance nearing the 200m.

GUNDY SON (J. Holder) raced 3 wide without cover.

BAZZOOKA (L. Rolls) and CELESTIFY (A. Pattillo) raced 3 wide throughout.

Jockey B. Stewart reported that he was unable to obtain clear running on COOL EDITION in the straight and the mare went to the line without being fully tested.

Jockey S. Seamer reported that SAINT MINERVA finished the race off well and, in his opinion, was looking for further distance in its race.

Race 8: T.H. Cock Pty Ltd Class 6 H'cap - 1350m
1st – Blazing Hearts 2nd – Ulladulla 3rd – Askew 4th - Zsazsa

As D. Craven was to be overweight, B. El-Issa was substituted as the rider of BLAZING HEARTS. D. Craven was fined $100.

CHARLOTTE COURTNEY (L. Cassidy) attempted to buck shortly after the start. Trainer H. Wilson was advised that the mare must trial satisfactorily in 2 official trials prior to its next race start.

FRISCO’S IN CHARGE (J. Bowditch) overraced at the heels of ULLADULLA (M. Cahill) in the middle stages.

Near the 150m, MY LIMIT (M. Speers) had to be steadied when disappointed for a run to the inside of ASKEW (S. Seamer).

Jockey G. Colless reported that he was forced to race in a 3-wide position on TEARS’N’CHEERS, however was still disappointed with the horse’s finishing effort over the concluding stages.

Stewards sought an explanation from trainer D. Bougoure for the improved performance of BLAZING HEARTS. Mr Bourgoure explained that the horse was havng only its second start in his care and had race ungenerously when restrained to take up a position midifield at the Sunshine Coast on 18 October. D. Bougoure further stated that as a result of racing ungenerously and travelling wide, BLAZING HEARTS had failed to finish the race off on that occasion. Stewards noted the explanation of Mr Bougoure in respect to BLAZING HEART’S performance, however he was fined $400 under AR135A for failing to advise stewards of a change of tactics on BLAZING HEARTS.

Jockey B. El-Issa was fined $200 for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post.
