A protest was lodged by J. Byrne, the rider of the 5th placegetter POINT PAIN, against MISS TENNESSEE (C. Munce), 3rd placegetter, alleging interference shortly after the start near the 900m. After taking evidence from J. Byrne, C. Munce and the connections of POINT PAIN and MISS TENNESSEE and viewing the film, stewards were satisfied that at that point MISS TENNESSEE has shifted in making heavy contact with POINT PAIN, causing that horse to lose valuable ground, and after taking into account the margin between the two runners at the finish of the event, the protest was upheld and the placings amended accordingly to: 7, 5, 2, 4, 3. At a subsequent inquiry C. Munce was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 900m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of POINT PAIN, causing that horse to be checked. C. Munce’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 meetings, to commence at midnight on Saturday, 6 November, and expire following the Ipswich meeting on Friday, 19 November 2010.
