Race 1: Coco Cola NMW H'cap - 2020m
1st – Simmering 2nd – Lovingthelimelight 3rd – Crosscannons 4th - Macsquire

Trainer P. Jenkins was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for LOVINGTHELIMELIGHT by the prescribed time.

MISS MARTIKA (M. Walters), WALPERSDORF (J. Taylor), MACSQUIRE (J. Holder) and CROSSCANNONS (L. Cassidy) were slow to begin.

Near the 1600m, SIMMERING (J. Byrne) was tightened for room when racing between HARISH (R. McMahon) and FAMOUS FORTUNE (C. Small), which hung out despite the efforts of its rider.

Passing the 1600m, WALPERSDORF and MISS MARTIKA were both tightened for room when racing to the inside of HOOTILLA (P. Wolfgram), which shifted in after having to be steadied from the heels of HARISH (R. McMahon) after the rider of that horse eased his mount. R. McMahon, rider of HARISH, was reprimanded for the manner in which he steadied his mount at that stage.

Approaching the 1400m RUN FOR LAYLA (T. Bell), when being eased, raced ungenerously for a short distance and got its head up.

Passing the 1500m PRINCE TELESTO (J. Bowditch) overraced at the heels of RUN FOR LAYLA (T. Bell) and shifted out, taking CROSSCANNONS wider on the track. CROSSCANNONS was then obliged to race wide for the remainder of the race.

MACSQUIRE was held up for clear running between the 400m and 300m.

Approaching the winning post, RUN FOR LAYLA had to be steadied from the heels of CROSSCANNONS, which shifted in after being brushed by LOVINGTHELIMELIGHT (L. Rolls).

Race 2: Peroni Nastro Assurro Open H'cap - 1350m
1st – Elusive Port 2nd – General Purple 3rd – Nicole Amy 4th – Blazing Hearts

Trainer M. Pitman was fined $100 for a late gear notification on EL CHICO.

EUREKA (K. Wharton) and DALZAR (A. Spinks) were slow to begin.

EL CHICO (L. Cassidy) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

PATTIES MATE (J. Taylor) raced wide for the majority of the event.

When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on PATTIES MATE, J. Taylor stated his instructions were to allow his mount to find a position from the wide gate without placing PATTIES MATE under undue pressure in the early stages. However as he was unable to secure a position closer to the rails, he was then obliged to race 3 wide for the majority of the race.

Race 3: Eagle Boys Pizza Class 6 H'cap - 1350m
1st – Solzhenitsyn 2nd – Whateverwhenever 3rd - Eastline 4th – Golden Cash

WHITE PHOSPHORUS (B. Looker) and TOPTWO (K. Wharton) were both slow to begin.

WHATEVERWHENEVER (L. Rolls) was tightened for room shortly after the start when racing between SOLZHENITSYN (J. Byrne) and YAMARJIE (J. Bowditch), which shifted out.

Leaving the 800m, TOPKAPI PALACE (R. McMahon) overraced at the heels of MISS CUTIE (T. Bell) and shifted out, taking PENNY LOUISE (J. Taylor) wider on the track. TOPKAPI PALACE and PENNY LOUISE both raced wide for the remainder of the race.

GOLDEN CASH (D. Browne) was held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn.

Shortly after leaving the 300m SOLZHENITSYN (J. Byrne) shifted in and brushed WIN A MILLION (A. Butler) on several occasions.

WHITE PHOSPHORUS (B. Looker) was unable to obtain clear running over the final 100m when held up and awkwardly placed at the heels of the tiring KALBO (L. Cassidy).

LAPEL (G. Geran) was held up for clear running for most of the home straight.

YAMARGIE(J. Bowditch) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice A. Butler and trainer Mr K. Schweida regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of WIN A MILLION. Apprentice Butler stated he was able to obtain a good position in running one-out-and-one back and the mare travelled well in the early and middle stages. He informed stewards that WIN A MILLION has a tendency to strike herself behind and for this reason it was the usual practice for him not to apply significant pressure on the mare rounding the home turn. However once he did straighten and commenced to apply pressure, WIN A MILLION did not respond and proved disappointing. A. Butler further added that in his opinion the mare may now be looking for further distance in its race. Trainer Mr K. Schweida stated that WIN A MILLION my not have appreciated being crowded for room in the early part of the straight when the eventual winner, SOLZHENITSYN, progressed around him. He further added WIN A MILLION had been competing in mare’s class races and it was his intention now to freshen her up and place the mare back in races against its own sex.

Race 4: Mother QTIS 2yo H'cap - 1110m
1st – Aquatorial 2nd – Slysera 3rd – Excapishe 4th - Spinhro

Mr R. Macrae, trainer of SLYSERA, which dislodged its rider and was reluctant to proceed to the barriers, was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding.

SPINHRO (M. Gray) was slow to begin.

PUNCH ON (S. Seamer) began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with FEROKKA (E. Wilkinson).

WITCHES WONDER (J. Taylor) began awkwardly.

SPINHRO overraced in the early stages.

PUNCH ON was inclined to race ungenerously in the early stages of the race.

WITCHES WONDER was forced to race 3 wide going forward and eventually assumed the lead near the 500m.

Approaching the 800m, SANTA MAURA (J. Bowditch) had to be steadied off the heels of YOU DONE IT AGAIN (T. Bell).

Nearing the 600m, FEROKKA (E. Wilkinson) improved up on to the heels of SANTA MAURA and had to steadied.

Passing the 400m, AQUATORIAL (J. Letherby) had to be eased when attempting to take a run to the inside of EXCAPISHE (J. Byrne) where insufficient racing room existed.

SLYSERA (P. Hammersley) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

EXCAPISHE (J. Byrne) was inclined to shift out under pressure in the straight.

Over the concluding stages, DELOROSA (L. Cassidy) had to be steadied and alter course when EXCAPISHE (J. Byrne) shifted out.

DELOROSA (L. Cassidy) raced wide for the majority of the event.

S. Seamer, rider of PUNCH ON, reported that after his mount began awkwardly he was reluctant to apply pressure to PUNCH ON as it has shown a tendency to overrace throughout its racing career. He added that PUNCH ON got its head up on several occasions and was inclined to lay outwards, placing him at a disadvantage in running. S. Seamer further stated that the filly laid out in the home straight when placed under pressure, again making it difficult for him to test his mount. A post-race veterinary examination of PUNCH ON revealed the mare to have moderately severe cheek ulcers. Trainer P. Balzen was advised he must provide a veterinary clearance for PUNCH ON prior to its next race start.

A post-race veterinary examination of AQUATORIAL revealed the gelding to have been galloped on on the near hind leg.

Apprentice J. Letherby, rider of the winner AQUATORIAL, was fined $200 for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post.

Race 5:Sunshine Kebabs Benchmark 85 H'cap – 1615m
1st – Sophie’s Spirit 2nd – Brave The Way 3rd – Epic 4th – Glow Heart

PATMOSS (J. Bowditch) was slow to begin.

Near the 1500m, EPIC (C. Munce) was crowded for room by GLOW HEART (N. Tomizawa), which shifted in.

In the middle stages, AIGLON (J. Byrne) raced ungenerously and got its head on the side.

IRISHKIWI (E. Wilkinson) and BRAVE THE WAY (T. Bell) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Race 6: Goulburn Valley Juice Open H'cap – 1010m
1st – Frosty 2nd – Multire Music 3rd – Monashee Dancer 4th - Stolit

Trainer S. Lee advised that MISTER CELESTIAL would be ridden just off the speed if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.

CATTLEMAN, which reared over and became cast in the barriers, was declared a late scratching at 3.18 pm on veterinary advice. Subsequent to the event all monies invested on CATTLEMAN were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 4 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 5 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets. Trainer H. Richardson was advised that a warning would be placed on CATTLEMAN regarding its barrier manners.

SNIP ESPRIT (N. Thomas) and EASY ROCKER (C. Munce) were slow to begin.

GUISSEPINO (J. Holder) and JOINT CHIEFS (P. Hammersley) both began awkwardly.

Leaving the 800m, CHASTE (L. Cassidy) was tightened for room when racing to the inside of LEAPFROG (L. Rolls), which was taken in by MONASHEE DANCER (T. Bell).

In the early part of the straight, FROSTY (B. Looker) shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so made contact with LEAPFROG on several occasions.

Near the 250m JOINT CHIEFS, after being disappointed for a run to the inside of FAIRY GUMNUT (J. Byrne), then shifted to the outside of that horse’s heels and in doing so struck the heels of FAIRY GUMNUT, resulting in FAIRY GUMNUT becoming unbalanced. Jockey J. Byrne, rider of FAIRY GUMNUT, reported that when this occurred he was concerned that the mare may have gone amiss and as such was reluctant to place his mount under significant pressure from that point onwards.

SOMMERSEA DRIVE and GUISSEPINO raced wide for the majority of the event.

Stewards sought an explanation from rider L. Rolls and trainer Mr B. Hill regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of LEAPFROG. L. Rolls explained that he was forced to make use of LEAPFROG to take up its customary forward position in the race that was run at a very strong tempo in the early stages. He added that, in his opinion, this told on the horse's stamina over the final 300m. Trainer B. Hill agreed with jockey Rolls’ comments in explaining the seemingly disappointing performance.

Jockey D. Browne reported that SOMMERSEA DRIVE hung out throughout the race and in the early part of the race changed stride and became unbalanced. He added that on the basis of the horse’s racing manners he was reluctant to test the horse in the straight for fear that it may have sustained an injury during running. Trainer T. Miller undertook to trial SOMMERSEA DRIVE to the stewards satisfaction prior to its next race start. A post-race veterinary examination of SOMMERSEA DRIVE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 7: Jim Beam QTIS 3yo H'cap - 1110m
1st – Excellantes 2nd – Startsmeup 3rd – The Ringmaster 4th – Cyclone Brad

PROJECTS (J. Letherby) and AESSEX (R. McMahon) were both slow to begin.

FLYING MINSTREL (T. Bell) lost its footing on jumping away.

CYCLONE BRAD (L. Cassidy) began awkwardly.

FRACTIONS (A. Spinks) and STEEL DRAGON (C. Munce) made contact on jumping away.

FRACTIONS (A. Spinks) had a tendency to lay in in the middle stages of the race.

FLYING MINSTREL, STARTSMEUP (P. Hammersley), THE RINGMASTER (P. Wolfgram) and PRODUCT (J. Holder) all raced wide for the majority of the event.

Stewards questioned jockey J. Holder regarding the tactics adopted on PRODUCT where the horse was restrained at the start in comparison to the previous tactics adopted on the horse. J. Holder advised that he was instructed to position PRODUCT towards the rear of the field from his wide barrier and in view of this restrained the horse shortly after the start to a position closer to the fence. Stewards will question trainer L. Birchley regarding the apparent change of tactics on PRODUCT at a later date.

Stewards questioned apprentice T. Bell and trainer T. Bailey regarding T. Bell’s riding of FLYING MINSTREL. Apprentice Bell stated that the horse pulled hard in the race and was inclined to hang in to the extent that if he had lessoned his hold on his near-side rein he felt that FLYING MINSTREL would shift in and cause interference to runners to his inside. Whilst stewards conceded that FLYING MINSTREL hung in under pressure in the straight, after viewing the patrol video they were of the opinion that apprentice Bell’s contention in regards the horse’s manners throughout the middle stages was not substantiated, and on this basis, in the view of the stewards, he had ridden an ill-judged race in that he did not allow his mount to improve round STEEL DRAGON to the position outside the leader when there appeared an opportunity to do so in the middle stages.

Jockey A. Spinks, the rider of FRACTIONS was fined $100 for using his whip more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m.

Race 8: Bruers Bright NMW H'cap - 1110m
1st – Inventory 2nd – Peelings 3rd – Tafeer 4th - Medesano

Trainer S. Mackinnon advised that GREAT MAN would be ridden with cover if possible. The horse was ridden accordingly.

CONVICTOR, which was kicked by another horse behind the barriers, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and subsequently declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 4.29 pm. Subsequent to the event all monies invested on CONVICTOR were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 3 cents in the dollar on the face value on win and place bets.

COUNTY SHERRIF (A. Butler) was tightened for room shortly after the start between MISS BARWANG (E. Wilkinson), which shifted in, and NAYNAY (L. Rolls), which shifted out after beginning awkwardly.

Approaching the 300m, TAFEER (L. Cassidy) was tightened for room when racing between MEDESANO (A. Spinks) and PEELINGS (B. Looker), which shifted out to improve.

INVENTORY (G. Geran), MY ELIXA (J. Byrne), GREAT MAN (Matthew Palmer) and MEDESANO (A. Spinks) all raced wide for the majority of the event.

Stewards questioned apprentice A. Butler regarding his riding of COUNTY SHERIFF, in particular the reason for the horse racing wide, and his apparent failure to place his mount in a more challenging position leaving the 500m. Apprentice Butler stated that the horse hung out throughout running and overraced, which resulted in the horse racing wider on the track than required and consequently this restricted his ability to test the horse rounding the home turn. After viewing the stewards patrol footage stewards accepted the explanation.
