SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

Race 1: ORD MINNETT QTIS 3YO H’CAP - 1630m
1st – The Inventor 2nd – Peppered Black 3rd – Denwood 4th – Tehuti

SO DOMINANT (J. Kropp) began awkwardly.

STAG (K. Wharton) was slow to begin.

GRANZELLA (R. Goltz) was crowded for room shortly after the start when racing between DENWOOD (A. Spinks) and STOP CRYING (G. Colless), both of which shifted ground.

GRANZELLA raced ungenerously in the early stages of the event.

ALL THE TORQUE overraced badly in the early and middle stages of the event.

Near the 1000m RED ROYAL shifted out and in doing so forced TEHUTI wider on the track for a short distance.

When questioned regarding the tactic to lead on DENWOOD today compared to previous tactics adopted on the gelding A. Spinks advised that he was given no specific instructions from the connections. He added that he allowed the horse to stride forward after it began well with the intention to take a sit however, was left holding the lead position when not challenged by any other runner. He further advised that it is still the belief of connections that DENWOOD would be best ridden with cover. Stewards noted the explanation.

A. Spinks the rider of DENWOOD pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that at a point near the 1400m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of PEPPERED BLACK, resulting in that horse being taken in onto TEHUTI, which resulted in that horse losing its rightful position. A. Spink’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of seven (7) meetings .

A. Spinks the rider of DENWOOD pleaded guilty to a further charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 1300m when insufficiently clear of ALL THE TORQUE, resulting in that horse being forced in onto RED ROYAL causing that horse to be checked. A. Spink’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of eight (8) meetings. As stewards ordered that both suspensions be served concurrently his licence is to be suspended from midnight 13 August 2011 and to expire midnight 26 August 2011.

Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the riding tactics of L. Cassidy on RED ROYAL over the final 500m to a date and time to be fixed. It was noted that RED ROYAL was badly held up for clear running for the majority of the straight.

Race 2: LIFTRONIC – ELEVATORS & ESCALATORS OPEN H’CAP - 2200m
1st – Fantastic Blue 2nd – Warrior Within 3rd – Drumshanbo 4th – King Of The Nile

JEDI STARFIGHTER (J. Bowditch) began awkwardly.

WORK THE ROOM (G. Colless) and MISS MARTIKA (M. Walters) made contact on jumping away.

When questioned regarding the performance of WORK THE ROOM G. Colless stated that the horse travelled well in the early and middle stages of the event but when placed under pressure from the 500m failed to respond and in his opinion failed to run out the 2200m of today’s event. Trainer R. Heathcote agreed with the comments of G. Colless and advised it would be his intention to restrict the horse’s program to races of not more than 1600m. He further advised it would be the intention to send the horse for a spell.

A post race veterinary examination of WORK THE ROOM revealed no abnormalities.

Stewards opened an inquiry into the seemingly improved performance of LEAPFROG today as compared to its first up 10th of 13 at Doomben on 16 July 2011 beaten 4.4 lengths. Trainer B. Hill informed stewards that the horse had worked well leading into today’s event and he was confident of a good performance. Mr Hill added that it appeared to him that the only other speed runner in the race was THE SIXTIES and he had anticipated the horse being able to lead quite comfortably. Whilst Mr Hill believed the horse is a risk at 1200m he is of the view that LEAPFROG is a genuine speed horse and this coupled with the good barrier led him to believe that it would get the lead quite easily. Mr Hill added that the rider was forced to use LEAPFROG for a considerable distance in the early stages at its first up performance to consolidate the lead and this told on the horse over the concluding stages. Mr Hill further stated that whilst he was confident LEAPFROG would race well today he nor the stable supported the horse financially.
