SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

From Doomben – Wednesday, 28 March 2012 – Race 6:
Trainer L. Mayfield-Smith reported to Stewards that prior to SAMMY JUNIOR’s disappointing effort on the above date, he had added a tongue control bit to the horse’s gear and believes the horse resented this piece of equipment and performed poorly as a result. Subsequently he has been working the horse without it and SAMMY JUNIOR has pleased him with his work in recent days.

GENERAL

As S. Galloway was injured, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Apprentices J. Hull and A. Butler were both reprimanded for failing to produce letters of authority.

Race 1: SKYRACING.TV MAIDEN PLATE - 2220m
1st – Delzina 2nd – Dozing Stampede 3rd – Moratorio 4th – Tarturi

Trainer M. Wilson advised that EASTERN DREAMS (L. Cassidy) will be ridden in a handy position with cover if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.

DELZINA (J. Wood) shifted in soon after the start and became awkward on the heels of DOZING STAMPEDE (T. Harrison).

Near the 1300m STARSPUN (M. Hellyer) shifted out and brushed IMA GEM (D. Gill), forcing that runner wider on the track. IMA GEM raced three wide for the remainder of the event.

Near the 200m STOPSIGN (Michael Palmer) shifted out when placed under pressure.

L. Cassidy reported that EASTERN DREAMS did not travel comfortably throughout the race and was disappointing when placed under pressure from the 600m. Jockey Cassidy was of the opinion that EASTERN DREAMS may be better suited on rain-affected tracks. A post-race veterinary examination of EASTERN DREAMS found the mare to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer M. Wilson was advised that a veterinary clearance must be produced for EASTERN DREAMS prior to its next start.

Apprentice M. Vance (MORATORIO) was fined $100 for using the whip in a forehand manner on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m.

Race 2: QLD FROZEN FOOD SERVICES 3YO MAIDEN H’CAP - 1350m
1st – Sweet And Vicious 2nd – Neurum Road 3rd – Rock The Pac 4th – Zozuqualo

SWEET AND VICIOUS (R. Hurdle) was slow to begin.

Apprentice J. Letherby reported that REMODEL raced greenly throughout.

Stewards sought an explanation from D. Browne regarding the performance of OUTBACK BIFF. D. Browne stated that OUTBACK BIFF was reluctant to muster any speed in the early stages and he had to ride with some vigour to obtain the position outside of the leader POSEN (T. Bell) near the 800m. Jockey Browne added that OUTBACK BIFF did not travel comfortably in the middle stages and weakened badly in the home straight, and in his opinion OUTBACK BIFF may not have been suited on today’s firm track. A post-race veterinary examination of OUTBACK BIFF revealed the gelding to have a slow post-race recovery rate. Trainer R. Heathcote advised he was disappointed with today’s performance and will have veterinary tests carried out in the coming days and report to stewards the results of such tests.

J. Stanley reported that CHIDE jumped very awkwardly and shifted out abruptly, and following this it was his intention to settle the gelding towards the rear of the field, however CHIDE overraced in the early stages and as a result he was forced to race three wide. Jockey Stanley added that CHIDE travelled comfortably through the middle stages, but when placed under pressure approaching the home turn did not respond to his riding and was disappointing.

Race 3: WILSTON GRANGE AFC F&M MAIDEN PLATE - 1020m
1st – Feelin’ Feisty 2nd – Floral Garden 3rd – Dame Judarius 4th - Hetty

Trainer B. Guy advised that from the wide barrier the intention would be to have FLYING LAMBORGINI (T. Bell) ridden towards the rear of the field. The horse was ridden accordingly.

KENETIC dislodged rider J. Taylor leaving the mounting yard. KENETIC then was very fractious and was unable to be ridden to the barrier. As a result KENETIC was a late scratching at 3.06 p.m. Trainer A. Doyle was advised that KENETIC must compete satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to its next start. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on KENETIC be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

7 cents in the dollar for the Win #1 – FEELIN’ FEISTY
7 cents in the dollar for place of winner #1 – FEELIN’ FEISTY
8 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #8 – FLORAL GARDEN
9 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #7 – DAME JUDARIUS

KARISHA (E. Wilkinson) and SOARING ANGEL (D. Browne) came together at the start and made heavy contact which resulted in SOARING ANGEL losing ground.

LITTLE FEATHER (P. Keane) shifted out shortly after the start and made contact with FEELIN’ FEISTY (M. Gray).

FLYING LAMBORGINI overraced in the early stages and raced three wide throughout.

Apprentice J. Hull (MISS MARY ANN) reported that soon after entering the home straight he attempted a run between KARISHA and LITTLE FEATHER. A short distance later LITTLE FEATHER shifted in slightly and MISS MARY ANN shifted in away from that runner and became awkward at the heels of KARISHA. Apprentice Hull further added that he again attempted to apply pressure to the filly passing the 200m and MISS MARY ANN hung in under pressure and proved difficult to ride.

D. Browne reported that he would have liked to have ridden SOARING ANGEL in a forward position but after making heavy contact with KARISHA at the start, SOARING ANGEL became unbalanced for a short distance and as a result settled at the rear of the field. He added that he attempted to improve his position inside of RUSSIAN ONTHE ROCK (C. Whiteley) passing the 800m but SOARING ANGEL, which was having its first start, raced greenly at that stage and did not respond to his riding to take advantage of that run. Jockey Browne further added that the filly worked to the line well in the home straight.

Race 4: THE GOOD GUYS CLASS 4 H’CAP - 1020m
1st – Power Of Ed 2nd – Tornadoes 3rd – Jessica’s Dream 4th – Mik Yelrow

Trainer C. Halliday was fined $100 for failing to declare G. Colless as the rider of MIST IN THE MORN by the prescribed time.

BLIND JUSTICE (T. Bell) was slow to begin.

MIST IN THE MORN (G. Colless) raced three wide throughout.

C. Whiteley, the rider of JESSICA’S DREAM, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that after passing the 400m he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of BLIND JUSTICE, resulting in that runner having to be checked to avoid the heels of JESSICA’S DREAM. C. Whiteley’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, with the term to commence at midnight on Tuesday, 17 April, and expire at midnight on Wednesday, 25 April 2012.

Approaching the 200m POWER OF ED (D. Griffin) shifted in and brushed JESSICA’S DREAM.

A. Butler was issued with a reprimand for failing to ride TORNADOES out to the end of the race. Stewards were satisfied that his actions had no material effect on the placings of the race. A post-race veterinary examination of TORNADOES revealed the gelding to be striding slightly short in front.

Race 5: HIDDEN DRAGON @ LYNDHURST STUD CLASS 3 PLATE - 1640m
1st – Gotcha 2nd – Angusroy 3rd – Castle Express 4th – Ellie La Vie

Apprentice A. Butler reported that CASTLE EXPRESS pulled very hard in the early and middle stages and as a result he allowed the gelding to cross to the lead near the 800m.

Stewards sought an explanation from trainer R. Heathcote regarding the improved performance of GOTCHA. Mr Heathcote stated that the gelding was better suited today , stepping up in distance and on a firm surface. He added that GOTCHA has been working well and although has been inconsistent, gave him the indication that it would give an improved showing today.

Race 6: TICKETEK CLASS 3 H’CAP - 1350m
1st – Vacallo 2nd – Our Triple Treat 3rd – Precious Mandy 4th – March To Victory

As apprentice M. Speers was unable to fullfill his engagment due to personal reasons, A. Butler was substituted as the rider of MR TRACEY.

Trainer B. Smith advised that if circumstances arise, SUPREME AFFAIR (E. Wilkinson) will be ridden in a handy position. SUPREME AFFAIR did not muster sufficient speed in the early stages and as a result was ridden towards the rear of the field.

MANZANO (G. Cooksley) was slow to begin.

ABDICATED (C. Whiteley) shifted out at the start and made heavy contact with HALO’D BE THY NAME (S. Bogenhuber).

MR TRACEY (A. Butler) and EASY LAGER (T. Harrison) made contact at the start.

HALO’D BE THY NAME overraced in the early stages and for some distance approaching and passing the 1100m had to be steadied from the heels of MR TRACEY. HALO’D BE THY NAME continued to overrace in the middle stages and approaching the 600m had to be restrained from the heels of MANZANO.

For some distance after passing the 1000m SUPREME AFFAIR, when being restrained by its rider, raced ungenerously and threw its head in the air.

PRECIOUS MANDY (B. Wallace), ABDICATED, SUPREME AFFAIR and MISS BRADBURY (C. Munce) raced wide throughout.

HALO’D BE THY NAME was unable to secure clear running in the home straight and as a result went to the line not fully tested by its rider.

MISS BRADBURY was inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

Approaching the 200m MARCH TO VICTORY (G. Colless) was held up for a short distance on the heels of INDUSTRIALISM (L. Cassidy) and had to alter course to the inside of that runner in order to improve.
