COUGAR FISH was declared a late scratching at 8 am by order of the stewards. Trainer M. Palmer was fined $200 for failing to scratch the horse by the prescribed time.

BAMBOO HOUSE (A. Allen) and STRAIGHT (D. Griffin) were slow to begin.
Soon after the start, LOSE IT (C. Munce) shifted in, bumping AUSSIE AGENDA. AUSSIE AGENDA then became unbalanced and shifted in, bumping BRIDIES BOY (D. Browne).
Near the 1000m, STRAIGHT (D. Griffin) had to be steadied when tightened for room between GOOD HUNTING (L. Cassidy) and MONJAYA BOY (G. Cooksley), which shifted out after becoming awkward at the heels of CHILEAN PLUME (E. Wilkinson).
Passing the 500m, AUSSIE AGENDA commenced to hang out and had to be restrained from the heels of LOSE IT.
REIGNING MAGIC raced wide throughout.
G. Colless reported that AUSSIE AGENDA overraced in the early stages and for this reason he allowed the gelding to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 800m. He added that AUSSIE AGENDA raced very erratically from the 600m and rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight was inclined to hang in badly towards the running rail when weakening. Trainer R. Lipp was of the opinion that AUSSIE AGENDA resented racing in blinkers for the first time today and it was his intention to remove this gear for future starts. Mr Lipp was advised that AUSSIE AGENDA would be required to compete satisfactorily in an official trial prior to racing again. A post race veterinary examination of AUSSIE AGENDA revealed the gelding to have been galloped on on the near hind leg.
Race 2: Ambassador Travel F&M 1MW H'cap - 1010m
1st – Gran Torino 2nd – Silvakini 3rd – Lightfeet Lady 4th - Bellantina
On return to scale a protest was lodged by trainer S. Ryan, trainer of equal third placegetter, LIGHTFEET LADY, against equal third placegetter, BELLANTINA, alleging interference near the 200m. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the patrol film, stewards were of the view that BELLANTINA did shift in near the 200m when not fully clear of LIGHTFEET LADY, resulting in LIGHTFEET LADY having to be steadied and alter course. In the circumstances, stewards were satisfied that this incident did have a material effect on the placings, and as a result upheld the protest and altered the Judge’s placings to read: No. 7 – Gran Torino – 1st; No. 11 – Silvakini – 2nd; No. 4 – Lightfeet Lady – 3rd. No. 6 – Bellantina – 4th. At a subsequent inquiry, L. Cassidy, rider of BELLANTINA, was issue with a reprimand.
ZEKEZA (P. Schmidt) jumped away awkwardly.
BELLANTINA (L. Cassidy) was slow to begin.
Stewards sought an explanation from jockey J. Byrne regarding the performance of KARANJA. J. Byrne explained that due to today’s track conditions he attempted to ride the mare in a forward position, however KARANJA could not muster early speed and at no stage travelled comfortably throughout the race. He added that, in his opinion, KARANJA did not handle today’s heavy track conditions. Trainer M. Palmer was of the view that being first up today in the heavy conditions resulted in KARANJA weakening over the final 300m. He added that KARANJA is better suited when ridden with cover. A post race veterinary examination of KARANJA failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 3: Drumbeats @ Lyndhurst CG&E 1MW H'cap - 1010m

RUNDLE (T. Harrison) was crowded for room on jumping away between EASTLINE (J. Lloyd) and HOROSCOPES (A. Allen), which shifted out.
When the pace steadied approaching the 1500m, HOROSCOPES (A. Allen), when overracing, had to be restrained from the heels of RHETORIC (J. Byrne). As a result, HOROSCOPES shifted out and crowded ELUSIVE KING (M. Walker), which had to be steadied. ELUSIVE KING then continued to overrace for a distance and had to be restrained from the heels of EASTLINE (J. Lloyd) near the 1400m.
AUSWORLD (S. Galloway) raced 3 wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to obtain the lead near the 900m.
Near the 450m, HOROSCOPES, which was inclined to hang out, had to be checked from the heels of ELUSIVE KING, which was taken in slightly by UNCLE HEAVEN (P. Schmidt). Stewards were satisfied that the racing manners of HOROSCOPES had a significant bearing on this incident, however stewards nonetheless advised P. Schmidt, rider of UNCLE HEAVEN, that she should afford her fellow riders greater racing room in similar circumstances in future. A. Allen, rider of HOROSCOPES, further advised that the gelding failed to handle today’s heavy track conditions.
SHEZAHOTSHOT (G. Cooksley) hung in when placed under pressure in the home straight, and approaching the 200m shifted in, brushing EASTLINE (J. Lloyd).
M. Walker reported that ELUSIVE KING never travelled well at any stage and, in his opinion, failed to handle today’s prevailing track conditions.

RUN WITH ME (P. Hammersley) was slow to begin.
JAM FANCY (T. Harrison) began awkwardly.
SHOW A PRINCE (L. Cassidy) was crowded for room shortly after the start between STATE OF WEALTH (D. Browne) and IN A STORM (P. Keane), which shifted in.
D. Browne, rider of STATE OF WEALTH, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 800m when not sufficiently clear of IN A STORM (P. Keane), causing IN A STORM to be tightened for room between STATE OF WEALTH and VIKING HEART, resulting in IN A STORM having to be checked. D. Browne was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 16 June and to expire at midnight, 29 June.
VIKING HEART (C. Munce) overraced for some distance passing the 800m and near the 700m had to be restrained from the heels of TOP OF THE ROCK (B. Richardson).
VIKING HEART and LONGSHOREMAN (S. Galloway) were held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight.

Race 6: Channel Seven Dalrello Stakes - 1200m
1st – Destruction 2nd – Holey Gadoley 3rd – Substation 4th - Saluter
Prior to correct weight being semaphored, stewards afforded G. Cooksley, rider of the 2nd placegetter HOLEY GADOLEY, the opportunity to view the stewards’ patrol video over the concluding stages in the straight to ascertain if he had grounds to lodge a protest against the winner, DESTRUCTION. Subsequently, jockey Cooksley elected not to lodge a protest.

Approaching the finish line, DESTRUCTION (G. Schofield) shifted out abruptly and bumped HOLEY GADOLEY (G. Cooksley).

Race 7: Sirromet Wines Provincial Cup H'cap – 350m
1st – Machination 2nd – Signified 3rd – Fast Lover 4th - Choral
FAST LOVER (J. Byrne) was slow to begin.
Near the 500m, SIGNIFIED (A. Allen) shifted in and brushed OUTSTANDINGLY (M. Walker).
SIGNIFIED (A. Allen) shifted out under pressure in the early stages of the straight, taking MACHINATION (P. Schmidt). A. Allen, rider of SIGNIFIED, was reprimanded for his failure to stop riding and straighten his mount at this point.
DRIVING REIGN (G. Killen) raced wide for the majority of the race.
Stewards sought an explanation from jockey M. Walker regarding the performance of OUTSTANDINGLY. M. Walker stated that he was instructed to ride with vigour in the early stages to take up a forward position, which resulted in him being able to lead the event. He added that OUTSTANDINGLY was not comfortable in today’s heavy track conditions and weakened badly in the home straight.
Apprentice A. Allen was questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted on SIGNIFIED and whether he had considered taking a trailing position after passing the 800m when RUAPEHU BOY (A. Spinks) improved to his outside. Apprentice Allen indicated that he would have liked to have restrained SIGNIFIED at this stage to take a trailing position behind RUAPEHU BOY, however SIGNIFIED was overracing and he was unable to restrain the horse to allow RUAPEHU BOY to cross. Stewards accepted the explanation of apprentice Allen.
Stewards questioned A Spinks regarding the tactics adopted on RUAPEHU BOY, which resulted in the horse racing in a 3 wide position outside the leaders from the 800m and having to do a significant amount of work. A. Spinks explained that after being slow to begin, he rode RUAPEHU BOY with vigour in the early stages in an attempt to lead or gain the position outside the leader, which is the horse’s normal racing pattern. He added that RUAPEHU BOY did not have sufficient speed to clear SIGNIFIED approaching the 800m and as he was a half a length in advance of SIGNIFIED at that stage, he felt it would have been detrimental to the horse’s chances to restrain. A. Spinks conceded that in hindsight it would have been a better option to restrain RUAPEHU BOY approaching the 700m to attempt to gain a trailing position. Stewards advised jockey Spinks that his ride on RUAPEHU BOY lacked some judgement, and that in future he would be expected to offer his mounts some respite during the race to ensure they are able to finish the race off in the best possible position.
C. Munce advised stewards that CATCH THE LIGHT failed to handle the prevailing track conditions.
RUKAPEHU BOY bled from the off-side nostril during the race. Connections will be advised that RUKAPEHU BOY must pass a 1000m gallop before stewards prior to racing again.
