Race 1: PROGRAMMED GROUNDS & LANDSCAPING SERVICES OPEN F&M H’CAP - 1010m
1st – Liesele 2nd – Newborn 3rd – Lady Montel 4th – Carry To Fortune

LADY MONTEL (T. Bell) and MULTIRE MUSIC (R. Hurdle) raced wide throughout.

VIPERA GOLD (R. Myers) bled from both nostrils during the event. As this was the second occasion on which the horse has bled, trainer L. Tipper was informed that VIPERA GOLD will now incur a lifetime ban from racing.

Race 2: THE DULUX GROUP OPEN H’CAP - 1200m
1st – The Sixties 2nd – Motspur 3rd – The Ringmaster 4th – Too Many Reds

L. Cassidy reported that TOO MANY REDS was fractious in the barrier stalls prior to the start to the extent that two barrier attendants had to provide assistance in an attempt to have the horse stand squarely and in a position to jump away with the field. Despite this, TOO MANY REDS was slow to begin and raced ungenerously in the early stages, wanting to get its head on the side and shift in towards the fence. Jockey Cassidy added that when the pace of the race in the early part was slow, he elected to make a forward move from the 550m to take closer order to the leaders. L. Cassidy further added that the horse was in a winning position in the early part of the straight, however peaked on its run in his opinion inside the final 150m.

Race 3: PROGRAMMED PROPERTY SERVICES PAINTING CLASS 6 PLATE - 1600m
1st – Revitalise 2nd – Noble Jester 3rd – Equissential 4th – Playaction

NOBLE JESTER (T. Bell) raced wide in the early stages before assuming the lead at the 900m.

For some distance leaving the 800m LAUGHING CRUSADER (J. Taylor) was inclined to lay out and get its head on the side.

Near the 600m LAUGHING CRUSADER was momentarily tightened for room when racing between CYCLONE AL (L. Cassidy) and ATTICA (R. McMahon) which shifted in slightly.

Near the 150m CYCLONE AL had to be steadied when EQUISSENTIAL (J. Letherby) shifted in under pressure. Apprentice J. Letherby was issued with a reprimand.

Approaching the 100m FROM LONDON (M. Cahill), which was tiring, had to be steadied when tightened for room between REVITALISE (M. Vance), which shifted out to improve, and PLAYACTION (R. Myers), which shifted in under pressure. Both apprentice Vance and apprentice Myers were advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

An explanation was sought from the trainer of TEA TATTLE (D. Browne), Mr John Dann, in respect of that horse’s seemingly poor performance. Mr Dann stated that rider D. Browne informed him that the horse travelled well in the run, however after obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight only accelerated for a short distance before tiring. After receiving this post-race report, Mr Dann advised that it was his intention to spell the horse as he believed that the run could well be attributed to the horse reaching the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination of TEA TATTLE revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg.

M. Cahill, the rider of FROM LONDON, which performed below expectations, informed stewards that he was disappointed with the horse’s performance, particularly when compared to its last start win at Eagle Farm. M. Cahill further stated that whilst FROM LONDON was obliged to do some work in the early stages to clear PLAYACTION, the horse travelled well and enjoyed a nice passage in the race but failed to accelerate under his riding in the straight. Trainer J. Thompson’s stable representative, Mr B. Killion, could offer no explanation for the performance other than to inform stewards that FROM LONDON’s past performances have been on very firm tracks, and that rider M. Cahill did report to him that there was some give in the surface today.

Race 4: PROGRAMMED CORPORATE IMAGING F&M 0MW H’CAP - 1350m
1st – Our Hussey 2nd – For Mia 3rd – Comahni 4th – Granzella

MASSURI (M. Cahill) overraced in the early stages.

SHE'S FIRED UP (A. Spinks) and ISHI CLASSIC (J. Lloyd) raced wide throughout.

FOR MIA (L. Cassidy) was held up on the heels of POPPY'S REVENGE (J. Byrne) rounding the home turn.

I'M BUSY (B. Richardson) made the home turn awkwardly.

Near the 200m GRANZELLA (A. Allen) shifted in, taking FOR MIA in on to the tiring POPPY'S REVENGE.

Over the concluding stages DORCHESTER (R. Myers) shifted out, taking STRAP THEORY (R. McMahon) out on to ISHI CLASSIC.

Apprentice R. Myers reported that rounding the home turn she was held up when trailing FOR MIA and when unable to bring DORCHESTER to the outside, she angled for a run back and to the inside of FOR MIA. Apprentice Myers added that she was then held up on the heels of POPPY'S REVENGE and was obliged to shift several horses wider on the track to obtain clear running and DORCHESTER, once fully tested approaching the 100m, found the line well.

Race 5: DULUX PROJECT SERVICES QTIS 3YO H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Grayson Square 2nd - Doubtfilly 3rd – Palais Court 4th – Holy Toledo

Apprentice M. Speers pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 87D in that when weighing out for his ride on SNIPZU he wore a safety vest that did not conform to the standard approved by the Australian Racing Board. Apprentice Speers was fined $1000.

Connections advised that from the awkward gate SNIPZU (M. Speers) would be ridden midfield with cover if circumstances permit. The filly settled towards the rear of the field.

Connections advised that LITTLE LONG HORN (J. Byrne) would be ridden back in the field with cover if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.

HOLY TOLEDO (G. Goold) and LITTLE LONG HORN were slow to begin.

ATHANEA (M. Cahill) jumped out at the start and made contact with ALL MY ANGELS (J. Taylor).

SNIPZU, when racing ungenerously approaching the first turn, faltered.

PERFECT GLORY (R. Myers), ALL MY ANGELS, LITA (T. Bell) and TRAKSTAR (R. McMahon) raced wide throughout.

Leaving the 200m SNIPZU was hampered by LITTLE LONG HORN, which shifted in.

G. Colless reported that RED ERIC hung out during the middle stages.

Stewards sought an explanation from trainer B. Baldwin and rider M. Cahill in regards to the performance of ATHANEA. M. Cahill stated that the filly was fractious prior to the start, was a little slow to begin but travelled well for him during running until near the 600m at which time he placed ATHANEA under pressure and it immediately started to tire. B. Baldwin could not offer any explanation other than to inform stewards that the horse was exhibiting a cough post-race. A veterinary inspection of the filly confirmed this and Mr Baldwin undertook to have an endoscopic examination performed on the filly and to advise stewards of the results. The veterinary surgeon also reported the presence of ulcers to the inside of both cheeks of ATHANEA.

Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice M. Speers and trainer L. Birchley regarding the poor performance of SNIPZU. Apprentice Speers stated that he was forced to take a position towards the rear of the field in order to gain a position nearer the running rail, and after having done so SNIPZU travelled quite well in running. Apprentice Speers added that he placed SNIPZU under pressure in the early part of the straight and whilst the mare was forced to race in restricted room at various stages in the home straight, she did not accelerate and proved disappointing. Trainer L. Birchley expressed his disappointment at SNIPZU’s performance and indicated that he feels the mare performs best when able to be ridden with cover just behind the speed, which has not been possible in recent starts due to drawing wide barriers.

HOLY TOLEDO lost its near hind plate in running.

Race 6: DULUX INFRACOOL TECHNOLOGY CLASS 6 H’CAP – 1200m
1st – Komodo Blue 2nd – Tunahog 3rd – Jungle Heat 4th – D’Jet

DE DOZEN STARS (J. Byrne) was slow to begin.

Approaching the first turn DE DOZEN STARS commenced to race very fiercely and when restrained from the heels of JUNGLE HEAT (S. Galloway) shifted out, tightening the running of MARGINS (T. Bell), which had to be steadied.

D’JET (A. Allen), TOP OF THE ROCK (M. Cahill), MARGINS and JUST DESTINY (R. Myers) raced wide throughout.

D’JET had a tendency to lay in in the early part of the straight and when being corrected by its rider, shifted out taking TUNAHOG (M. Vance) out on to JUNGLE HEAT. AQUATORIAL (L. Cassidy), which was trailing, was inconvenienced in this incident. Following this D’JET continued to lay in for the remainder of the event.

Race 7: PROGRAMMED PROPERTY SERVICES BENCHMARK 80 H’CAP - 2200m
1st – Miss Reed 2nd – Eureka Jack 3rd – Deacon 4th – Loves A Challenge

LOVES A CHALLENGE (J. Lloyd) was slow to begin.

Near the 2000m DEACON (M. Vance), when overracing, shifted in despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in TANAH LOT (L. Cassidy) being tightened for room and having to be steadied.

For some distance passing the winning post on the first occasion TANAH LOT raced fiercely at heels of DEACON.

MALING (J. Letherby), MISS REED (M. Hellyer), LOVES A CHALLENGE, EUREKA JACK (T. Bell) and THEY WON'T LAST (M. Cahill) raced wide throughout.

Near the 350m DEACON had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room by THEY WON'T LAST, which shifted in slightly.

TANAH LOT was held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight had to be steadied from the heels of SEAFIGHT (R. McMahon) which shifted out around the heels of the tiring DAAD'S OVERTIME (D. Browne). R. McMahon was severely reprimanded for this incident. TANAH LOT then had difficulty securing clear running for the remainder of the event and near the finishing line had to be steadied from the heels of DEACON which shifted in.

G. Colless reported that VITAL ORGAN travelled well until the 500m and then it failed to respond to his riding and raced with a high head carriage when weakening. A post-race veterinary examination of VITAL ORGAN revealed no significant findings.

A post-race veterinary examination of DAAD'S OVERTIME revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer L. Kelly was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness for DAAD'S OVERTIME will be required prior to the gelding’s next race start.

Race 8: ENCORE SIGNAGE SYSTEMS C,G&E 0MW - 1350m
1st – Alvitas 2nd – Rapid Leica Dane 3rd – Mujahu 4th – Starlin

The start of this race was delayed when SAINT LENNY (D. Browne), DARTH (J. Taylor) and MAGIC SHUFFLE (L. Cassidy) all broke through the barrier stalls prior to the start being effected. J. Taylor and D. Browne were dislodged in this incident, resulting in SAINT LENNY and DARTH galloping for some distance. DARTH and SAINT LENNY were subsequently withdrawn by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice at 4.54 p.m. MAGIC SHUFFLE was inspected by the veterinary surgeon and passed suitable to race, together with STARLIN (R. Myers), which made contact with the barrier stalls when being unloaded due to the delay caused. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on SAINT LENNY and DART be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 4.54 p.m.:

4 cents in the dollar for the Win #8 – ALVITAS
3 cents in the dollar for place of winner #8 – ALVITAS
5 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #10 – RAPID LEICA DANE
6 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #14 – MUJAHU

BAHSA (G. Cooksley) and BUSY DOIN' NOTHIN' (A. Mundy) made very heavy contact on jumping away, unbalancing both horses.

ALVITAS (A. Allen) jumped away awkwardly and made heavy contact with the offside barrier partition.

SHOW ME AN ACE, MUJAHU (R. McMahon), ALDINI (J. Lloyd) and MAGIC SHUFFLE raced wide throughout.

Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice R. Myers (STARLIN) as to the reason she surrendered the lead to BAHSA in the early part of the race. Apprentice Myers stated that STARLIN commenced to hang out shortly after the start, proving difficult to ride, and as a result of this she was unable to apply pressure to STARLIN to hold the lead, which was her intention. After viewing the stewards’ patrol footage, stewards accepted the explanation provided. STARLIN continued to hang out during the race and near the 900m shifted out taking ALDINI and MAGIC SHUFFLE wider on the track. SHOW ME AN ACE (M. Cahill), which was trailing, was also inconvenienced as a consequence. Trainer of STARLIN, Ms D. Forster, was informed that a warning would be placed on the gelding. Ms Forster advised stewards that she intended to remove the cross-over noseband from the horse for its next start.

M. Cahill, the rider of SHOW ME AN ACE, reported that from his awkward barrier he was unable to gain a position any closer to the fence than three wide, and after obtaining cover behind ALDINI, the horse raced ungenerously and had a tendency to lay out from the 700m. Jockey Cahill advised that the horse was under pressure passing the 600m and failed to respond to his riding. He added that he believed the horse would perform best when able to race in a position just behind the speed from an advantageous barrier draw.
