Near the 700m, SQUARE PEG (A. Spinks) shifted out on jumping away from the heels of CAPTAIN FRANCIS and in doing so made contact with EARLY NEWS.
Passing the 400m, YOU’RE SERIOUS had to be steadied when tightened for room between JAMAICAN GIRL, which was inclined to lay in, and CAPTAIN FRANCIS, which shifted out. A. Mundy, rider of CAPTAIN FRANCIS, was reprimanded.

BRIBIE (D. Browne) was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight, and close to the finish line had to be steadied to avoid the heels of ZEDITAVE PLUS, which shifted in under pressure. E. Wilkinson, rider of ZEDITAVE PLUS, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

Near the 200m, IDAHLIA (R. Myers) shifted out and made heavy contact with HALF A HERO (J. Byrne), resulting in HALF A HERO become unbalanced. HALF A HERO then commenced to weaken and shifted in abruptly leaving the 100m, causing severe interference to CANNY CANDOO. A short distance later, HALF A HERO then shifted out abruptly, severely checking SARAZEN (A. Pattillo) and I SQUARED (G. Colless). A post race veterinary examination of HALF A HERO found the gelding to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer S. Ryan was advised by stewards that he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for HALF A HERO, and that the horse must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
HALF A HERO raced wide without cover throughout.

Race 7: Patinack Farm Class 3 Plate – 2030m
1st – Master Avatar 2nd – Square Up 3rd – Handsome 4th – Oriental Grace
Prior to Race 3, trainer B. Hill advised that THREEBYTWO would be ridden more handier than last start – possibly 4th, 5th or 6th. The horse was ridden accordingly.
D. Browne was dislodged from MASTER AVATAR in the barriers when that gelding became restless in the gates.
DOZING STAMPEDE (T. Bell) was slow to begin.

At the same stage, DOZING STAMPEDE (T. Bell), which was racing ungenerously, got its head up and shifted out across the heels of PACK THE BAGS (G. Colless) and in doing so forced CUBIC INCHES (G. Cooksley) wider on the track.
At the entrance to the straight, CUBIC INCHES (G. Cooksley) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of WISP O’ WILL (J. Byrne), which shifted out. J. Byrne, rider of WISP O’ WILL, was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
Near the 300m, PACK THE BAGS (G. Colless) had to be steadied away from the heels of the tiring WIN FOR WILSON (K. Matheson).
J. Byrne was questioned regarding tactics adopted on WISP O’ WILL. He stated that after consultation with trainer B. Guy they were of the opinion that it would be best to ride the filly with cover from its wide barrier, however if WISP O’ WILL was to begin quickly, he was to allow the horse to stride forward and race near the lead. He stated today the filly got further back than he anticipated. J. Byrne added that at its previous start at Ipswich where there was slow early pace, the filly raced closer to the lead, which was not their intention. Trainer B. Guy will be interviewed regarding these instructions.
A post race veterinary examination of MASTER AVATAR revealed blood in nostril due to trauma when the gelding became restless in the barriers.
An inquiry into B. Stewart’s use of the whip on ORIENTAL GRACE in the straight was adjourned.

Toward) near the 100m, and in doing so made contact with the hind quarters of BIG DECISION (R. Wiggins). R. Wiggins, rider of BIG DECISION, then endeavoured to relieve the tightening to ONE TO GO and steadied his mount away from the heels of CANDENTE.
