Race 1: Goulburn Valley QTIS 2yo H'cap – 1350m

BLAZEN FELT (L. Cassidy) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with HYDRAZINE (J. Byrne), which in turn shifted out and made heavy contact with FLYING RIDDLE (C. McIver), which had to be checked when taken out on to HOPFGARTEN (P. Schmidt).

YOU DID WHAT (M. Hellyer) shifted in abruptly on jumping away, taking CALEDONIA’S CALL (K. Matheson) in on to SPLENDORA (G. Colless).

VON MOGLICH (T. Bell) jumped away awkwardly.

After leaving 1200m, DESK POP (C. Munce) shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of C. Munce, making heavy contact with BLAZEN FELT, forcing that horse in, resulting in ISLA POPPY (P. Hammersley) having to be checked to avoid the heels of BLAZEN FELT. HOPFGARTEN, which was following ISLA POPPY, had to be checked of the heels of that runner and made contact with SPLENDORA. The trainer’s representative for DESK POP, was advised that a warning would be placed on DESK TOP regarding its racing manners.

DESK POP raced wide without cover.

CALEDONIA’S CALL hung out for a major part of the race. A post race veterinary examination of CALEDONIA’S CALL revealed the gelding to be making a abnormal respiratory noise. Trainer T. Sears was advised that he must provide a veterinary certificate for CALEDONIA’S CALL, together with the results of an endoscopic examination, and that the gelding must trial to the stewards’ satisfaction prior to racing again. Mr Sears advised stewards that CALEDONIA’S BELL would now be sent for a spell.

P. Schmidt reported that HOPFGARTEN raced greenly throughout.

R. Wiggins, rider of HOOKED, was fined $300 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

Race 2: Powerade Class 6 Plate – 1600m

Connections advised prior to Race 1 that GOTCHA would be ridden further back in the field from the wide barrier and EPIC would be ridden forward from the wide gate. Both runners were ridden accordingly.

GOTCHA (A. Allen) and DOLLY DOLLY (T. Bell) were slow to begin.

Approaching the 1500m, TAX EVADER (C. Munce) shifted out, taking VITAL ORGAN (L. Cassidy) and BLACK CASH (D. Browne) wider, resulting in VACALLO (B. Stewart) bumping the hind quarters of BLACK CASH (D. Browne).

EPIC was ridden forward from the gates and raced three wide until assuming the lead near the 1000m.

BLACK CASH raced 3 wide in the early stages before obtaining a position outside the leader near the 800m.

DANE PRINCESS (P. Schmidt) was inclined to lay in and away from BLACK CASH (D. Browne) approaching the 800m.

When the pace steadied approaching and passing the 800m, TAX EVADER commenced to overrace and had to be restrained from the heels of DANE PRINCESS.

Near the 500m, DOLLY DOLLY shifted out and made contact with DUSTY GOLD (G. Goold) on 2 occasions.

VACALLO (B. Stewart) and BOREHOLE (J. Byrne) were both held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

For some distance approaching and passing the 200m, ANGUSROY (R. Wiggins) was unable to improve and had to alter course to the inside of BLACK CASH.

VITAL ORGAN raced wide in the middle stages.

C. Munce, rider of the third placegetter, TAX EVADER, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts right out to the finish of the race.

Race 3: Mount Franklin Tails Stakes - 2100m

After passing the winning post on the first occasion, TRAJET (R. Wiggins) had to be eased when momentarily tightened for room by VOLKHERE (G. Colless).

B. Stewart, rider of MR LIGHT BLUE, was charged with careless riding, in that approaching the 1800m, he permitted his mount to shift in when not fully clear of MUKADDAMAH SON (D. Browne), which was taken inwards on to ROWIE (J. Byrne), which was forced to shift in abruptly away from the heels of MUKADDAMAH SON. In this incident, MUKADDAMAH SON and ROWIE lost some ground. After hearing further submissions from B. Stewart, and further evidence from D. Browne and J. Byrne, Stewards bearing in mind the degree of interference and the effort made by B. Stewart to correct MR LIGHT BLUE, did not sustain the charge.

After passing the 700m, TRAJET (R. Wiggins) shifted out around the heels of the tiring TAYSTAR (Matthew Palmer), which resulted in MARGINS(T. Bell) having to be eased when tightened for room between TRAJET and MR LIGHT BLUE (B. Stewart). R. Wiggins, rider of TRAJET, was issued with a severe reprimand and advised to show far more regard for the safety of his fellow riders when shifting ground in future.

Approaching the 600m, BANG ON (P. Schmidt) had to be steadied away from the heels of the tiring TAYSTAR (M. Palmer). STOP CRYING (L. Cassidy), which was following, also had to be steadied.

G. Colless, rider of VOLKERE, reported he was forced to make use of the of the gelding in the early stages in order to obtain a position on the fence and lead. He added that VOLKHERE may have been feeling the effects of 3 runs in the last fortnight, and that those 2 factors combined had a detrimental effect on the overall performance. A post race veterinary examination of VOLKERE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Stewards afforded J. Byrne the opportunity to comment on the performance of ROWIE. He stated that, in his opinion, the overall performance was disappointing, adding that the gelding did not run out a strong 2100m. A post race veterinary examination of ROWIE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Trainer Ivan Duke was advised that TAYSTAR, which compounded from the 700m, will be ineligible to compete in the metropolitan area until it establishes competitive form in the provincial area.

Race 4: Jim Bean Benchmark 85 H'cap – 1350m

RAEBURN (A. Butler) was slow to begin.

SAVE A BUCK (J. Byrne) raced ungenerously in the early stages.

GUNNER KNOX (T. Bell) laid out in the middle stages.

Approaching the 200m, DELAGO PILLI (G. Goold) attempted to improve to the inside of RAEBURN where there was insufficient room and had to be checked.

After leaving the 200m, GUNNER KNOX had to be steadied when racing in restricted room between THE RINGMASTER (K. Matheson) and PELLEGRINI (G. Colless), which shifted out under pressure.

Inside the final 100m, DELAGO PILLI had difficulty securing clear running and as a result went to the line not fully tested.

Over the concluding stages, R. McMahon, rider of VIKING HEART, was obliged to stop riding when PRODUCT (L. Cassidy) shifted in when not quite clear.

TISANI BOY (E. Wilkinson) and DALZAR (P. Schmidt) raced wide for the majority of the race.

Race 5: Coke Zero Benchmark 90 H'cap – 1010m

Connections advised prior to Race 1 that as SILVER BULLION has not been finishing its race off, the gelding would be ridden further back in the field. The horse was ridden accordingly.

DELAGO BOLT (A. Allen) was slow to begin.

ROCKER (G. Colless) shifted out on jumping away and made contact with THEFIFTHHOLE (L. Cassidy).

After leaving the 800m, G’DAY OLD MATE (G. Goold) got its head up when being restrained.

In the early stages of the straight, ROCKER was held up for clear running.

After passing the 200m, LIESELE (D. Browne) was held up for clear running to the inside of SOLEBID (M. Hellyer) until passing the 100m.

SPIRIT OF FLATLEY (C. Munce) raced wide for the majority of the race.

G. Colless reported that the tongue-tie came off ROCKER as the start was effected. He added that after being held up rounding the home turn he was able to shift the gelding to the outside, however ROCKER only ran on fairly and, in his opinion, proved disappointing.

A post race veterinary examination of BAQABA, which compounded in the home straight, revealed the gelding to have cardiac arrhythmia. Stable repesentative for trainer S. Tregea was advised that before its next race start BAQABA must trial satisfactorily and he must furnish to stewards the results of an ECG examination.

Race 6: Hogs Breath Cafe Gunsynd Classic – 1600m

Prior to correct weight, J. Byrne, rider of NOOGOORA BURR, made application to have his mount to be declared a non runner as he was of the opinion that his mount was denied a fair start as the gelding had sat back in the stalls, necessitating him taking his feet out of the irons. After taking evidence from the starters and J. Byrne, and also viewing the footage of the start, stewards declared NOOGOORA BURR a runner and declared correct weight on the numbers as semaphored by the Judge.

NOOGOORA BURR (J. Byrne) jumped away awkwardly, resulting in J. Byrne taking some distance to regain his left iron.

BEWHATYOUWANNABE (D. Browne) raced wide throughout.

Near the 250m, FRAGEZEICHEN (E. Wilkinson) had to be eased when tightened for room between IT'S ON THE POCKET (C. Munce)and SIR KNOX (M. Hellyer) which after initially being taken in by LUCKY LUCKY LUCKY (G. Cooksley)shifted in away from that runner. C. Munce and G. Cooksley were advised to show greater care when shifting ground in the future.

C. Munce was afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance of on IT’S ON THE POCKET. He stated that whilst the gelding enjoyed a favourable run throughout the event it proved disappointing over the concluding stages and, in his opinion, may have come to the end of its preparation.

J. Parr was fined $200 for making a celebratory gesture on PROVERB prior to the winning post.

Race 7: Coca-Cola Victory Stakes – 1200m

SPIRIT OF BOOM (G. Colless) and TEMPLE OF BOOM (R. Wiggins) bumped at the start.

STARTSMEUP (R. McMahon) raced in restricted room over the concluding stages between LISTEN SON (L. Cassidy) and ALBRECHT (J. Parr).

A post race veterinary examination of READY TO RIP revealed the gelding to be exhibiting soreness in both forelegs. Trainer P. Moody will be advised that he would be require to provide a veterinary clearance for READY TO RIP prior to its next race start.

Race 8: Canadian Club Class 6 Plate – 1200m

Connections advised that OFF AND LAUGHING would be ridden in the second half of the field from the wide barrier. OFF AND LAUGHING settled at the rear of the field.

Connections advised that QUARTERLY would be ridden more forward if circumstances permit. QUARTERLY was ridden forward and settled outside the leader at the 800m.

FLYING HOME (J. Byrne) jumped away awkwardly.

MISS BRADBURY (P. Schmidt) overraced in the early stages.

Passing the 800m, when the pace steadied, BRIBIE (D. Browne), when overracing had to be steadied from the heels of DREAM’N’IGNITE (K. Matheson). AROUND THE WORLD (M. Hellyer) and FLYING HOME (J. Byrne), which were following, also had to be steadied at this point.

Near the 700m, OFF AND LAUGHING (M. Palmer) improved to the outside of MEMORABLE MOMENT (R. McMahon) and made contact with SHOW AFFECTION (G. Colless), forcing that runner wider.

SHOW AFFECTION (G. Colless) raced wide throughout.

Trainer D. Pfieffer representaive Mr D. Joyce was questioned regarding the tactics adopted by T. Bell on NEW DAY RISING which led today which is in contrast to its most recent racing pattern. He stated the riding instructions were the same as given to the rider at its previous start in Toowoomba, which were to ride forward and take up a handy position. He added that due to NEW DAY RISING being tightened for room shortly after the start in Toowoomba, the horse was ridden further back in the field than anticipated.

R. McMahon, rider of MEMORABLE MOMENT, reported that after beginning well, he had to ride the gelding hard to maintain its position in the early stages and after doing so MEMORABLE MOMENT travelled well until entering the home straight, at which stage it failed to finish the race off as expected and proved disappointing. He added that MEMORABLE MOMENT had not started since 30 March and would take a fitness benefit from today’s performance.

K. Matheson was afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance of DREAM’N’IGNITE. He stated that the mare enjoyed a nice run behind the leaders and when placed under pressure after passing the 300m failed to respond to his riding. He added that DREAM'N' IGNITE has previosly performed best when able to lead and dictate the tempo of the race, and may not have been suited when ridden with cover today.

C. Munce, rider of CUDDLESOME, was fined $200 for failing to ride his mount right out to the end of the race.
