SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

From SCTC 4.8.13

Race 3: Trainer D. Gollan was fined the sum of $200 for presenting MUSCOVY to race without its advertised racing gear, namely winkers.

Race 6: Trainer S. McKinnon reported that despite the gelding being slow to recover immediately after the race, he could not find any significant abnormalities to explain the disappointing performance of HUNDRED CUBE. Mr McKinnon confirmed his intention to drop the gelding back in class and distance at its next start.

Race 1: HIDDEN DRAGON @ LYNDHURST MAIDEN PLATE - 1110m

Connections advised that from the wide barrier it would be the intention to have MON VIA VITA (P. Hammersley) ridden quietly. The horse was ridden accordingly.

On jumping, DELNIELLO (B. Richardson) was crowded and had to be checked and MOONLIGHT DANCER (K. Wharton) was inconvenienced between MR GOGARTY (C. Munce), which shifted out, and ROJO GRANDE (R. McMahon), which shifted in.

Making the first turn near the 800m RACEY LYAN (A. Butler) became unbalanced and shifted out abruptly, resulting in MOJA (A. Coome), MOONLIGHT DANCER and ROJO GRANDE all being inconvenienced and carried wider.

SANDBAR JACK (R. Jamieson) raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.

On straightening, SHARDAY (L. Cassidy) was disappointed for running between SANDBAR JACK and FINGER PAINTING (A. Pattillo), which was taken out slightly by LITTLE SNEAKY (M. Cahill). SHARDAY was then shifted in to find clear running.

Approaching the 100m MOJA was inconvenienced slightly by ROJO GRANDE which shifted in marginally.

Race 2: LED SUPERSCREENS QTIS 3YO H’CAP - 1110m

Consideration was given to an objection lodged by M. Cahill, the rider of GREY COUNTESS, which finished 2nd, against OLYMPIC ANTHEM (P. Hammersley) being declared the winner, alleging interference after the 700m and again near the 400m. On the evidence it was established that after the 700m OLYMPIC ANTHEM established a one-off position behind SEQUALEX (G. Colless), resulting in GREY COUNTESS racing three wide, and then after the 400m OLYMPIC ANTHEM again endeavoured to shift out to improve to the outside of SEQUALEX, resulting in GREY COUNTESS being bumped on two occasions and carried slightly wider. Bearing in mind the manner in which both horses then finished the race off in the home straight, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the incident near the 400m exceeded the margin between the two horses at the finish and therefore the objection was dismissed and correct weight declared on the Judge’s placings.

Race 3: MOUNT FRANKLIN MAIDEN H’CAP - 1350m

Permission was given for trainer H. Norman to have a tongue tie fitted to PEOPLE GET READY (R. Jamieson). Mr Norman was fined $100 for the late notification of gear change.

Shortly after the start LIL IRINA (B. Looker) was bumped on the hindquarter by SHATTERING (P. Hammersley) which shifted in.

Shortly after the start ANGRY APPLES (S. Payne) was bumped by RUBIS (A. Taylor), which shifted in.

When racing without cover INSOLENT (T. Jeffries) raced very keenly.

After the 800m AIR OF HEAVEN (J. Byrne), which was trapped three wide without cover, endeavoured to stride forward to find a position outside the lead, however was unable to do so when INSOLENT, which was proving difficult, improved inside that horse. As a result, AIR OF HEAVEN was left racing three wide throughout.

For some distance in the early part of the straight SHATTERING was inconvenienced by AIR OF HEAVEN which was laying in. For some distance after this, SHATTERING then raced in restricted room between AIR OF HEAVEN and HILDESHEIM (B. El-Issa), which shifted out slightly.

Race 4: MITTYS MAIDEN PLATE - 1615m

Due to a misunderstanding as a result of a clerical error in regard to the winning rides of apprentice B. Wallace, stewards permitted apprentice T. Jeffries to be substituted as the rider of KEN’S ROSE.

On jumping, ZANTARO (K. Wharton) was inconvenienced by APPLYING (C. Schmidt), which had been taken out by ZEROMIX (B. El-Issa), which shifted out after being bumped heavily by MAJOR SHOWDOWN (A. Holt).

In the early part of the back straight KAINJI ROCK (A. Butler), which was hanging in, made contact with the rail on a couple of occasions.

In the middle stages, due mainly to the pace, ZANTARO began to overrace.

P. Hammersley (TIGER JET) explained that from the wide gate he had been instructed to try and find a position closer to the rail, however if caught wide to then restrain to find cover. He said in the early stages he elected to take hold and then obtained a nice trailing position with TIGER JET, however after doing so the tempo of the race then steadied in the middle stages. He said because of this, from the position which he was in from the 600m, despite his urgings TIGER JET finished off only fairly in the straight, however he added that the sectional time for the last 600m indicated that its finishing effort was not too disappointing.

Race 5: CARLTON MID CLASS 3 H’CAP - 1020m

Consideration was given to an objection lodged by apprentice A. Allen, the rider of SHAZZLE PAZZLE, which finished 3rd, against FLINDERS SEA (C. Schmidt) being declared 2nd, alleging interference from the 200m. On the evidence it was established that near the 200m SHAZZLE PAZZLE endeavoured to improve into a clear run between OPTIONALITY (L. Rolls) and FLINDERS SEA, however was disappointed when that run closed due to FLINDERS SEA shifting in, and that further when endeavouring to shift to the outside of FLINDERS SEA, SHAZZLE PAZZLE was again inconvenienced and had to be steadied when FLINDERS SEA continued to shift out before being straightened near the 100m. As the stewards were of the view that the inconvenience caused to SHAZZLE PAZZLE between the 200m and the 100m exceeded the half length margin at the finish, the objection was upheld and the placings were amended to: 1, 7, 5, 6. At a subsequent inquiry apprentice C. Schmidt was reprimanded for permitting her horse to shift in near the 200m resulting in SHAZZLE PAZZLE being inconvenienced and having to be steadied, and further for allowing it to then shift out further, inconveniencing SHAZZLE PAZZLE.

N. Evans (SWEET CHILLI ROSE) was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in near the 900m resulting in SHAZZLE PAZZLE (A. Allen) being steadied, and then allowing his horse to shift in further, resulting in HAVASNIP (R. Jamieson) being crowded.

When racing outside the leader from the 800m VIA CON DIOS (C. Munce) hung out badly.

A post-race veterinary examination of VIA CON DIOS revealed the horse to be lame in the off foreleg and the off hind leg. Trainer T. Edmonds was advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance for VIA CON DIOS prior to its next start.

Race 6: CHANNEL SEVEN CLASS 3 H’CAP - 1615m

As apprentice K. Matheson was to be overweight, apprentice A. Allen was substituted as the rider of SIGMUND. Apprentice Matheson was fined $200.

HEART OF MANY (M. Hellyer) raced three wide without cover.

For a short distance in the early part of the straight PUNTERS PRIDE (P. Hammersley) was held up behind SIGMUND (A. Allen)

In the straight WISHMORE (M. Cahill) hung in badly.

A. Allen (SIGMUND) reported that although he had been instructed to ride midfield with cover, as the horse was caught extremely wide in the early stages without cover he allowed it to stride forward to race outside the lead.

J. Hull (SHADOW ME) explained that the horse enjoyed a nice run in front as per its usual racing pattern. He said he was able to steady the tempo mid race, however when he commenced to increase the tempo the horse did not respond and gave ground badly from the 400m and he was unable to put forward any further explanation. Trainer G. Allard stated that the mare led, as he had instructed, and he was happy with the ride. He said he was unable to put forward any explanation for the mare’s disappointing performance as its preparation and lead-up to today’s race had been satisfactory. Mr Allard added that it is now the intention to return the mare home for a short let-up, and he had no plans at this stage for its immediate racing future. Mr Allard was advised to report to stewards should anything obvious become apparent in the ensuing days which may have had an effect on the horse’s performance.

Race 7: ASCEND SALES CLASS 4 H’CAP - 1200m

HINCHLEY WOOD (J. Johnson) was slow to begin.

Making the first turn near the 800m SEA TRYST (A. Holt) hung out and caused inconvenience to BIG KEN THE CELT (S. Sheargold).

Apprentice A. Holt (SEA TRYST) explained that in the early stages, from a good draw SEA TRYST was reluctant to shift across to the rail until a point making the first turn approaching the 900m. He said after this SEA TRYST continued to hang out badly and was only able to maintain its position on the track due to BIG KEN THE CELT racing to its outside. He said the further they progressed the more SEA TRYST was inclined to hang out and in his opinion appeared to resent the tongue tie. Trainer T. Gollan concurred with the comments made by apprentice A. Holt and said that since coming to his stable and racing in a clockwise direction, SEA TRYST has shown a tendency to hang out in its races. He said following today’s disappointing performance, it was his intention now to discuss with the connections the horse’s immediate racing future. Mr Gollan was advised that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of SEA TRYST and if it performed similarly, more severe action may be taken against the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination of SEA TRYST revealed no abnormalities.

Race 8: RACING RETRO CLASS 5 H’CAP - 1350m

Near the 900m BUSY DOIN’ NOTHIN’ (R. Jamieson) commenced to race keenly and had to be shifted out away from the heels of INDUBIOUS (J. Byrne), and raced three wide without cover thereafter.

For a major part of the home straight SOUL CRUSADE (A. Allen) raced in restricted room.
