Race 1: THE DUPORTH TAVERN QTIS 2YO H’CAP - 1200m

After viewing the stewards’ patrol footage, J. Byrne, the rider of 5th placegetter MISS BELLA ROSA, elected to lodge an objection against GIVE ME TIME (T. Jeffries) being declared 4th, alleging interference near the 1000m. After taking evidence from all parties, stewards found that approaching the 1000m GIVE ME TIME shifted in when not fully clear of STROAK (M. Cahill), resulting in tightening and loss of ground to MISS BELLA ROSA after leaving the 1000m. As a result, stewards upheld the objection and declared correct weight on the amended placings of 3, 2, 5 and 9. At a subsequent inquiry apprentice T. Jeffries pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 1000m she permitted GIVE ME TIME to shift in when not fully clear of STROAK, which in turn was taken in on to MISS BELLA ROSA, resulting in MISS BELLA ROSA having to be checked and losing some ground. Apprentice Jeffries’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, with the term to commence at midnight on Wednesday 11 December, and expire at midnight on Wednesday, 19 December 2013. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account apprentice Jeffries’ guilty plea and her previous good record in relation to careless riding matters.

EMOTIONS IN MOTION (M. Gray) was slow to begin.

KEEP ON ROCKING (E. Wilkinson) jumped awkwardly.

MISS BELLA ROSA and KEEP ON ROCKING had a tendency to overrace in the middle stages.

Near the 100m MISS BELLA ROSA was momentarily tightened for room between RAYS ARE LUCKY (G. Colless) and KEEP ON ROCKING, both of which shifted ground.

Race 2: MADAME WU BM90 H’CAP - 1020m

GENERAL EXHIBIT (L. Cassidy) knuckled on jumping.

TRAIL BOSS (T. Harrison) was slow to begin.

THEFT (M. Vance) raced wide without cover throughout.

Near the 100m LENNIE’S CHOICE (R. McMahon) was briefly tightened for room between MR FAVULOUS (R. Ride) and GENERAL EXHIBIT, both of which shifted ground.

The whip of apprentice A. Allen (ROCKY KING) broke near the 100m.

The veterinary surgeon reported that SEEK AND FIND (K. Matheson) sustained a laceration to the off fore pastern during the event.

Race 3: HERVEY BAY HOTEL CLASS 6 H’CAP - 2120 m

MAJESTIC SOUND (V. Colgan) raced wide in the early stages and was allowed to stride forward by its rider to take up a position in the lead.

GRAB THE LOOT (T. Harrison) hung out approaching the home turn. Apprentice T. Harrison reported at scale that her mount continued to lay out with her, despite her efforts, over the concluding stages.

Apprentice B. Richardson reported at scale that MALING was under pressure from prior to the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination of MALING revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore fetlock. Trainer D. Lawlor was advised that MALING will require a veterinary clearance prior to its next start.

A post-race veterinary examination of GERMAYNE LASS (M. Cahill) revealed the mare to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer D. Forster indicated that GERMAYNE LASS would be retired.

Race 4: BEACH HOUSE BAR & GRILL MODE PLATE - 1200m

SPLENDORA (G. Colless) was held up momentarily on the home turn.

VIENNA QUEEN (T. Harrison) was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.

A. Holt reported that MISSY LONGSTOCKING raced keenly outside of VIENNA QUEEN in the early stages and when apprentice Harrison eased VIENNA QUEEN he elected to allow MISSY LONGSTOCKING to stride forward. He added that after this MISSY LONGSTOCKING did not relax as he would have wished and continued to race keenly until a point near the 600m. He said shortly after this he again had to increase the tempo and because of the manner in which the filly raced it weakened over the concluding stages. The veterinary surgeon reported that MISSY LONGSTOCKING had a slower than normal post-race recovery rate.

Race 5: THE BOTTLE-O QTIS 3YO H’CAP - 1615m

Connections advised that PRINCE OF BELAIRE (A. Hearn), which at its previous two starts has been ridden on the speed, will race in a more midfield position if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.

HOT SAGA (E. Wilkinson) jumped away awkwardly.

PADRINO (T. Harrison) raced wide in the early stages.

POUND ON TUBBY (V. Colgan), which overraced in the early and middle stages, raced wide throughout.

PRINCE OF BELAIRE pulled hard in the middle stages.

Leaving the 800m HOT SAGA was checked off the heels of PRINCE OF BELAIRE.

Near the 600m MISS HUSSON (C. Munce) shifted in and away from POUND ON TUBBY and made heavy contact with HOT SAGA.

AMEXED (M. Cahill) improved into a narrow run to the inside of HOT SAGA passing the 200m and then was tightened for room by that runner when it was taken in slightly by ENDLESS PUZZLE (P. Holmes). AMEXED then did not obtain clear running for the remainder of the event.

MISS HUSSON had difficulty obtaining clear running in the straight and shifted out after passing the 200m and made contact with the tiring PADRINO.

KALANDULA (J. Byrne) shifted in under pressure and made contact with PRINCE OF BELAIRE at the 200m.

SNAPCRACKLE (T. Bell) was also inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.

Race 6: URBAN CELLARS BM85 H’CAP - 1350m

SOLEBID (J. Morris) and VITAL ORGAN (C. Munce) jumped away awkwardly.

Passing the 1000m SOLEBID commenced to overrace and shifted out and away from the heels of JOPA (A. Allen), taking RENEWED VITALITY (T. Bell) wider.

Near the 500m DELAGO PILLI (L. Cassidy) shifted in, brushed the running rail and became unbalanced.

Approaching the home turn JOPA raced in restricted room between SOLEBID and VACALLO (V. Colgan), which shifted out slightly. TWIN ZERO (R. McMahon) and RENEWED VITALITY, which were racing to the outside of JOPA, were taken wider.

At the entrance to the straight VACALLO shifted out to improve, taking SOLEBID out on to TWIN ZERO, which made contact with RENEWED VITALITY.

Approaching the 200m JOPA shifted out from behind the heels of VACALLO, forcing SOLEBID out on to TWIN ZERO, which made contact with RENEWED VITALITY. After taking evidence from a number of the riders concerned, stewards adjourned the inquiry to a later date to obtain evidence from jockey J. Morris (SOLEBID), who was given permission to leave the track to fulfil his engagements at the Sunshine Coast meeting.

Race 7: RAWGROUP HOSPITALITY GEORGE MOORE STAKES - 1200m

Trainer S. Kendrick was fined $200 for the late declaration of R. McMahon as the rider of DOUBTFILLY.

GUNDY SON (R. Wiggins) was slow to begin.

FAMOUS SEAMUS (T. Clark) raced wide throughout.

LIESELE (G. Colless) was tightened shortly after the start between STEEL ZIP (V. Colgan), which was taken in by BENNY’S BUTTONS (M. Cahill), and DOUBTFILLY (R. McMahon), which shifted out.

Near the 900m STEEL ZIP had to be steadied to avoid the heels of STARTSMEUP (B. Stewart), which shifted in. B. Stewart will be advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

Shortly after entering the straight FACILE TIGRE (L. Cassidy) shifted out and made contact with BENNY’S BUTTONS. BENNY’S BUTTONS then shifted in slightly, resulting in FACILE TIGRE having to be steadied to avoid the heels of the tiring AUDACIOUS SPIRIT (T. Bell).

B. Stewart (STARTSMEUP) was fined $300 for using the whip in a forehand manner on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m.

T. Bell was questioned regarding his riding of AUDACIOUS SPIRIT in the early and middle stages. He stated that with the blinkers on today the gelding raced strongly and he was reluctant to restrain as he believed that the gelding would get its head up and lose ground as AUDACIOUS SPIRIT had previously shown a tendency to race in such a manner when restrained. He added that he was disappointed with the way in which AUDACIOUS SPIRIT tired over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination of AUDACIOUS SPIRIT revealed the gelding to be making an abnormal respiratory noise, to have a poor post-race recovery rate and to be lame in the off fore fetlock. Trainer G. Heinrich was advised that prior to AUDACIOUS SPIRIT being permitted to race again she must produce a veterinary clearance for the gelding, including the results of an endoscopic examination.

A post-race veterinary examination of DELAGO BOLT (A. Allen) revealed the gelding to have a slow post-race recovery rate and to have sustained a laceration to the near fore fetlock. Trainer J. Lyons was advised that he will be required to produce a veterinary clearance for DELAGO BOLT prior to its next start.

A post-race veterinary examination of BENNY’S BUTTONS revealed that the gelding had lost the near fore plate and sustained an injury to the wall of the foot. Trainer K. Wood will be advised that he will be required to produce a veterinary clearance for BENNY’S BUTTONS prior to its next start.

Race 8: BRISBANE METROPOLITAN TOUCH ASSOCIATION CLASS 6 PLATE - 1200m

V. Colgan, the rider of SAN JOSE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that approaching the 800m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of KEMPELLY (T. Bell), which was taken in on to COMAHNI (A. Taylor), resulting in COMAHNI having to be checked. V. Colgan’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 meetings, with the term to commence at midnight on Saturday, 14 December, and expire following the day meeting at Doomben on Saturday, 28 December 2013. In determining penalty, stewards took into account jockey Colgan’s recent poor careless riding record.

Approaching the 800m CARBON TAIKUN (J. Byrne) shifted in and away from NOISY OCEAN (R. McMahon), brushed the running rail, became unbalanced and lost ground.
