Race 1: Ray Himstedt 80th Birthday QTIS 2yo H'cap – 1010m
CRYSTAL MISSILE (K. Wharton) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with FREEZETHEMILLIONS (G. Colless).
SARISARA (T. Bell) was held up rounding the home turn and did not obtain clear running until near the 300m.
Leaving the 300m, CRYSTAL MISSILE, which was tiring, had to be steadied when tightened for room between FREEZETHEMILLIONS and BURLEIGH BULLET (T. Harrison), both of which shifted ground.
BURLEIGH BULLET (T. Harrison) raced wide without cover throughout.
FREEZETHEMILLIONS lost its near fore plate in running.
A post race veterinary examination of CRYSTAL MISSILE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 2: Coca-Cola Benchmark 90 H'cap - 1600m
VIKING HEART (G. Colless) was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
RENEWED VITALITY knuckled after passing the winning post.
M. Cahill was questioned regarding the performance of ACHIEVEMENTS. He stated it was always his intention to ride the gelding conservatively as the horse was stepping up in distance from 1300m to 1600m, and when joined by RENEWED VITALITY approaching the first turn he attempted to settle his mount, however RENEWED VITALITY refused to settle and pulled hard. M. Cahill added that once joined by SOLEBID near the 600m, ACHIEVEMENTS was immediately under pressure. A post race veterinary examination of ACHIEVEMENTS revealed the gelding to be suffering from a mild case of the thumps.
Race 3: Sita Australia Open H'cap – 1200m
DE DOZEN STARS (C. Munce) was unable to secure clear running in the straight.
Jockey T. Harrison was questioned regarding her riding of MISS IMAGICA, particularly in the early stages. T. Harrison stated she had been instructed by the stable to endeavour to lead on the mare, however after MISS IMAGICA began awkwardly she elected to settle her mount off the pace but was unable to do so when it commenced to overrace and as a result raced 3 wide without cover. Miss Harrison added that the tongue-tie was displaced during the race. The explanation was noted.
Race 4: Hidden Dragon @ Lyndhurst Benchmark 95 H'cap – 2100m
Connections advised SEEN would be ridden with cover if possible. SEEN subsequently raced back in the field after being slow to begin.
Correct weight was delayed to allow T. Bell, rider of the 2nd placegetter, SECRET GARDEN, to view the video on the home turn to ascertain if he had grounds to lodge a protest against the winner BANG ON. Subsequently, T. Bell elected not to lodge a protest.
LEGSMAN (D. Missen), which raced 3 wide without cover in the early stages, was allowed to stride forward near the 1200m to take up a position near the lead.
MASSURI (L. Cassidy), which was also racing wide, was allowed to stride forward after leaving the 1200m to lead to reach the lead near the 1000m.
ANGUSROY (V. Colgan) was momentarily tightened for room near the 200m between LENTINI MIST (J. Byrne) and LEGSMAN, which shifted out when tiring.
T. Bell, rider of SECRET GARDEN, was fined $300 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
SEEN bled from both nostrils during the event. SEEN will be barred from racing for a period of 3 months. He was also found to have suffered cardiac arrhythmia. Connections were advised that they would be required to produce the results of an ECG and also the horse must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start..
VOLKERE shifted its near fore plate during running. Trainer R. Heathcote reported a nail from the plate had punctured the sole of the foot and the gelding will now be sent for a spell.
Race 5: WWW.BRC.Com.Au NMW H'cap- 1010m
CHOSEN TALENT, which was unruly behind the barriers, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
On return to scale a protest was lodged by M. Vance, rider of the 5th placegetter, PEELINGS, against PETERHOF (B. Appo) being declared 4th, alleging interference after leaving the 300m. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the patrol videos, stewards found that after leaving the 300m a run presented itself between EUPHONIC (P. Schmidt) and PETERHOF (B. Appo), however in the opinion of the stewards PEELINGS had not established itself between those 2 runners, and the protest therefore was subsequently dismissed and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s placings. After passing the 200m, PEELINGS persisted in attempting to take a run between EUPHONIC and PETERHOF where there was insufficient room and as a consequence laid in and made contact with EUPHONIC, which became unbalanced near the 150m.
CHOSEN TALENT (L. Rolls) jumped away awkwardly.
PEELINGS and MR THATCHER (A. Taylor) came together on jumping away.
PETERHOF had to be momentarily steadied away from the heels of TERMS OF TRADE (K. Matheson), which shifted in over the concluding stages.
A. Taylor reported at scale that MR THATCHER hung in despite her efforts after leaving the 800m.
IONA FAST ONE (P. Holmes) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
LONE ASSASSIN (G. Goold) was unable to obtain clear running in the straight until passing the 100m.
SHEEZA MYZZILE (C. Munce) raced in restricted room passing the 200m between MR THATCHER and IONA FAST ONE.
MOUNT KOSCIUSZKO (T. Harrison), SPEEDING DRAGON (J. Byrne) and CHOSEN TALENT raced wide throughout.
Race 6: Mittys QTIS 3yo H'cap – 1200m
CARDICIAN (A. Allen) was slow to begin.
ISLA POPPY (J. Byrne) began awkwardly.
AQUATOR (P. Schmidt) got its head up when being steadied off the heels of ROYAL FINISH (C. Munce) near the 800m.
After leaving the 200m, AQUATOR (P. Schmidt) shifted in abruptly under pressure, tightening the running of ROYAL FINISH.
Passing the winning post, REAL FAVULOUS (T. Harrison) was tightened for room between AQUATOR and FAIRYTALE BELLE (T. Bell), which shifted out.
LOADED AND READY (A. Taylor) raced wide throughout.
Trainer J. Johnston reported that LOADED AND READY was suffering from heat stress following the event.
FAIRYTALE BELLE lost its near fore plate in running.
A. Butler (ROJO GRANDE) was fined $200 for making a celebratory gesture prior to the finish line. He was further advised of his obligations to ride his mounts right out to the end of the race.
Race 7: Sky International Class 6 H'cap – 1200m
CONHENRI (A. Spinks) was slow to begin.
After leaving the 800m, HOLEY GADOLEY (J. Stanley) had to be restrained from the heels of KEEP IT MOIST (V. Colgan), which shifted in slightly.
When the pace steadied after leaving the 800m, CUM DIVIDEND (M. Cahill) commenced to pull hard and near the 600m had to be checked away from the heels of DREAM’N’IGNITE (A. Allen) and lost ground. TOP RADA (J. Byrne), which was following, had to be steadied as a consequence.
BELIEVE’N’RECEIVE (G. Colless) was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
CUM DIVIDEND (M. Cahill) was unable to gain clear running in the straight until near the 150m.
Approaching the 100m, MISHANI PERSUADER (C. Munce) shifted out from behind the heels of CAPTAIN CLAYTON (P. Schmidt) and made contact with BLOODED (B. Appo).
Over the concluding stages, CUM DIVIDEND (M. Cahill) raced in restricted room between BELIEVE’N’RECEIVE (G. Colless) and DREAM’N’IGNITE (A. Allen).
SAN JOSE (D. Browne) raced wide without cover throughout.
Following the running of this race, T. Bell reported that he had suggested to trainer G. Heinrich CONFIDENT STAR would be better suited in races over shorter distances and may benefit from the addition of blinkers.
Race 8: Gallopers Sports Club NMW H'cap – 1350m
Connections advised that WONDERFUL JESTER would be ridden midfield if circumstances permit. WONDERFUL JESTER settled at the rear of the field.
DOCTOR DAVID (M. Cahill) shifted in and had to be steadied away from the heels of DAPH ‘N’ ALF (C. Munce) near the 800m.
At the entrance to the straight, FRAGEZEICHEN (T. Harrison) shifted out and made contact with BIG DECISION (R. Wiggins).
DOCTOR DAVID raced wide throughout.
Over the concluding stages, BIG DECISION shifted in and brushed FRAGEZEICHEN.
L. Cassidy, rider of WONDERFUL JESTER, reported that shortly after entering the straight he elected to improve to the outside of MAC’S ADDICTION (A. Allen) and had to be steadied when MAC’S ADDICTION shifted out. He then angled back to the inside after leaving the 300m to obtain clear running.
Post race veterinary examinations of WONDERFUL JESTER and MUJAHU failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 9: Bundaberg Distilling Co NMW H'cap – 1350m
As V. Colgan was dually engaged on BALLINGALL BOY and STARGRILL BOY, D. Browne was substituted as the rider of BALLINGALL BOY. In the circumstances no action was taken.
Connections advised that BUAKAW would be ridden quietly back in the field. The horse was ridden accordingly.
As A. Pattillo was injured riding at the Gold Coast races today he was unable to fulfil his engagement of FRENCHY LESSON and was replaced by J. Byrne as the rider of that horse.
The start was delayed when WARHOGG became restless in the stalls and reared up. WARHOGG was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.
FREEROCKER (B. Appo) was slow to begin.
DROP SHOT (M. McKenzie) and BINGO ROSE (M. Cahill) jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 800m, PIN (P. Schmidt) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of FRENCH LESSON (J. Byrne), which shifted in. J. Byrne, rider of FRENCH LESSON, was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.
Rounding the home turn, BY CHOICE (B. El-Issa) shifted out in an attempt to improve and made contact with FRENCH LESSON (J. Byrne). A short distance later, LOUPETS (D. Browne) had to be steadied when tightened for room between MOTORISED (B. Stewart), which improved quickly to its outside, and PIN, which shifted out away from FRENCH LESSON. P. Schmidt, rider of PIN, was reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground in future.
MORE THAN MONEY (L. Rolls) was held up from the entrance to the straight until the 200m.
BUAKAW (G. Colless) was held up from the entrance to the straight until the 100m.
FREEROCKER was unable to obtain clear running in the straight.
REGAL PRINCE (C. Munce) raced wide without cover.
M. Cahill reported that BINGO ROSE did not travel well in the early stages and was ridden along after passing the 800m. He added however that the horse finished the race off well and would be better suited ridden closer in the field if it drew a good barrier.
