Race 7: The QCU Stand For Queensland Campaign Benchmark 70 H'Cap – 1640m
Stewards considered an objection lodged by R. McMahon the rider of fourth placegetter MAUGHAN against ROOMS ON FIRE (G. Cooksley) being declared second on the grounds of crowding near the 600m. On the evidence it was established that near that point ROOMS ON FIRE shifted in slightly away from UTMOST FAITH, which was weakening, and shifted in slightly crowding MAUGHAN for a short distance. As the stewards were of the view that any interference suffered to MAUGHAN was minimal and bearing in mind the consequential running of the race and the way the 2 horses finished the race off, decided the protest ought be dismissed.
IN THE GENES – Caught extremely wide early stages. Allowed to stride forward to cross to the lead near the 800.
AGENTE – Vetted and found to have broken down in the off front tendon. Trainer B. Brown will be advised that a veterinary certificate must be produced prior to it racing again.
