Race 1: Brisbane Marriott Hotel 1MW H'Cap - 1350m
YOUTHFUL KING – Slow to begin.
OUR BOY NICHOLAS – Rider J. Byrne was questioned regarding the performance. Jockey Byrne stated that the horse did not begin as well as he would have expected as it was his intention to ride OUR BOY NICHOLAS in the lead outside of BUSH AVIATOR. Jockey Byrne further stated he was unable to hold ITCHINTOWIN, which improved quickly to his inside in the early stages and therefore took a trailing position. Jockey Byrne added that the slow sectional in the early stages did not help his chances and then the race developed into a sprint over the final 600m. In the circumstances he was not disappointed with the horse’s performance. Vetted – revealed no abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.
Race 2: PFD Food Services QTIS 3YO H'Cap - 1350m
DANSOLEI – Slow to begin.
SUZY’S BOY – Slow to begin.
RED BERETTA – Bumped near the 400m.
SOLDI DOMANI – Rider B. Stewart dropped whip near the 200m.
LIFE AT SEA – Raced wide throughout the event.
Race 3: Novotel Brisbane Airport Open H'Cap - 1350m
REGALMANIA – Late scratching at 8.06 a.m. Trainer K. Purdy fined $100.00 for failing to scratch by the prescribed time.
DEL PALIO – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground.
CHAMANDI – Began awkwardly.
JACK’S BACK – Disappointed for a run passing the 200m and obliged to shift back to the inside of STAR SAMMY to obtain clear running. Steadied from heels of another runner over the concluding stages.
STAR SAMMY – Bumped on a number of occasions over the concluding stages.
MR FAVULOUS - Bumped on a number of occasions over the concluding stages.
PLATINUM STATE – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had suffered a bleeding attack during the event. Trainer B. Guy was advised that PLATINUM STATE will now incur a 3 month ban from racing and must compete in a 1000m gallop prior to racing again.
Race 4: Australian Open Polo Doomben Racecourse C, G & E Class 6 Plate - 1050m
DIAMOND OASIS – Slow to begin.
SENTA DE NOCHE – Began awkwardly. Steadied from the heels of another runner near the 100m. Laid in for the majority of the home straight. App Y. Ichikawa was fined the sum of $200.00 for failing to ride the gelding out to the end of the race. In assessing penalty stewards were mindful of the gelding’s racing manners.
ROYAL SHOUT – Hampered shortly after the start.
STATE OF WEALTH – Shifted out under pressure leaving the 100m.
IKE’S LEGACY – Rider M. Cahill reported at scale his mount after being brushed by NET WORTH near the 500m slipped behind and then lost all momentum. As a consequence of this report the track manager was advised to inspect that section of the track and take any remedial action.
Race 5: Jim Beam Fillies & Mares Class 6 Plate - 1050m
ELLAWISDOM – Slipped behind as the start was effected and lost ground.
SHINJI – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout the event. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly had sustained a laceration to the outside of the near hock.
SHAPIN LADY – Steadied from heels leaving the 800m. Rider R. Fradd (EPSILON) was reprimanded for shifting in when insufficiently clear of SHAPIN LADY.
LUCKY LEISH – Raced wide throughout. Hung out rounding the home turn and was eased out of the event leaving the 300m. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare had sustained multiple lacerations to the off fore pastern and a laceration to the off hind coronet. Trainer G. Taylor was advised LUCKY LEISH would be required to complete an official trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.
TERRA AMATA – App Y. Ichikawa was fined the sum of $200.00 for failing to ride the mare out to the end of the race.
Race 6: Sky Racing BenchMark 75 H'Cap - 2050m
LEE HO FOOK – Began awkwardly. Near the 1600m had to be steadied when tightened for room. Shifted wider leaving the 1200m and raced wide from that point on.
THAT SNOW ATHLETE – Slow to begin. Passing the winning post on the first occasion was inclined to overrace and in doing so clipped the heels of RED CENT and blundered. Then continued to overrace for some distance. Had to be steadied near the 1600m when tightened for room. Trainer K. Kemp reported that the mare had pulled up lame in the off fore leg. Mr Kemp indicated that the mare would now be retired from racing nonetheless he was advised that should it race again a veterinary clearance would be required.
SERPENT – Raced wide in the early and middle stages before being ridden forward to the lead. Jockey R. McMahon was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the end of the race.
HEATER – Near the 1600m had to be severely checked when tightened for room and made heavy contact with the running rail and lost ground. Shifted wider leaving the 1200m and raced wide from that point on. Leaving the 900m shifted 4 wide and was ridden forward to assume a position outside the leaders.
ATTICA – Had to be checked near the 1600m and lost ground. Near the 1000m improved onto the heels of THAT SNOW ATHLETE, clipped the heels of that runner and blundered.
HORA SEXTA – Leaving the 900m became awkward at the heels of RED CENT and had to be steadied.
WIND WARD – Jockey Cahill lost the use of his near side rein leaving the 500m and became unbalanced.
B. Stewart the rider of MIGHTYSUI pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 1600m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of LEE HO FOOK taking that runner in onto HEATER, causing that runner to suffer severe interference. B. Stewart’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of nine (9) meetings to commence immediately and expire midnight 26 September 2014.
C. Schmidt the rider of HORA SEXTA pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 1600m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of THAT SNOW ATHLETE, which was taken in onto ATTICA, which had to be checked and lost ground. C. Schmidt’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of seven (7) meetings to commence midnight 20 September 2014 and expire midnight 4 October 2014.
Race 7: Quest Breakfast Creek NMW H'Cap - 1650m
FOREST WAY – Wide early and middle stages before obtaining a position outside the leader near the 800m.
ONGOING VENTURE – Wide throughout and overraced during the middle stages.
PINBALL LASS – Shortly after start was tightened for room, bumped heavily and lost ground.
I DO CARE – Shortly after the start was tightened for room and bumped.
EYE WINSOME – When overracing during the middle stages improved onto the heels of another runner near the 1000m and had to be steadied.
VAZ DE TORRES – Steadied from heels over the concluding stages.
PLATINUM MINT – Held up between the 200m and 100m when disappointed for a run.
RED HOT DAZZLER – Raced wide for the majority of event.
Race 8: www.brc.com.au Open H'Cap - 1650m
BLACK MAGIC – Connections advised would be ridden more forward today if possible. Rider questioned regarding tactics adopted. App B. Appo stated that after being hampered shortly after the start he was prevented from riding his mount forward as per his instructions he then elected to settle the mare back in the field trailing HARADA BAY. However when the pace steadied passing the 1200m he elected to allow the mare to stride forward, which resulted in the mare having to do significant work and race 3 wide near the lead. He added that in hindsight he should have maintained his position behind HARADA BAY. Stewards advised App Appo that his ride lacked judgement and fell below the level of a metropolitan apprentice however, stewards could not be satisfied he was culpable given his relevant inexperience as an apprentice.
FERMENT – Tightened for room on jumping away and lost ground.
DIENEKES – Presented to race in race plates instead of the advertised shock shod shoes. Trainer B. Guy will be interviewed at a later date. Raced wide in the early stages before obtaining a position outside the leader near the 1000m. Inconvenienced near the 500m.
HIDDEN WARRIOR – Hampered shortly after the start and lost ground.
TAIL AND ALL – Hampered shortly after the start and lost ground.
GANGSTER’S CHOICE – Inconvenienced near the 500m. Rider questioned as to the performance. G. Colless stated that despite travelling comfortably during the early and middle stages the gelding failed to respond to his riding when asked to improve leaving the 600m and in his opinion proved disappointing. Trainer J. Pride will be interviewed at a later date.
HARADA BAY – Leaving the 500m had to be steadied from heels.
