QLD TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT MON.3.1.2000

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr S. Railton (Chairman); Mr G. Ireland; Mr T. Bailey; Mr C. Clifford; Mr D. Tapsall; Mr D. Hooper (Cadet).

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - OUT 2M.ALL TRACK

GENERAL: As B. Stewart was indisposed, the following riding substitutions were permitted: Race 1. SEMIFORMAL - J. Byrne; Race 7. MILL PRINCE - M. Privato ; Race 8. SUAVE DOCTOR - G. Colless.

R. Goltz was also indisposed and was replaced by S. Seamer on VAIN TO VEGAS in race 1.

S. Katsidis was unable to fulfill riding engagements due to being overweight. An inquiry into this matter was adjourned. The following replacements were approved: Race 1. COUNT ALL - M. Privato; Race 2. MIGHTY ATALANTA - G. Baker; Race 3. BACHOP - G. Baker; Race 4. MOKUM - M. Privato; Race 5. PERISSA BAY - J. Pollard; Race 6. BERN RETURN - M. Privato; Race 7. HAPPY VENTURER - G. Baker; Race 8. EL PASEO - K. Pope.

Trainer D. Duryea reported that MILL TYCOON, which performed disappointingly at the BTC meeting on Saturday, 1 January, was subsequently found to be suffering from soreness across the hind quarters.

Jockey M. Gray was fined $100 for failing to fulfill his engagement on RACY RHYMER in race 1 at the SCTC meeting on 26.12.99.


RACE 1: MATAMATA H'CAP - 1400M.

MY TUDOR ROSE, MR. ORBIT and COUNT ALL were all slow to begin.

ANIMATE shifted out on the home turn and made contact with SEMIFORMAL.

K. Mahoney, rider of the second placegetter, ANIMATE, accidentally dropped his whip approaching the finish line.

RACE 2: AWAPUNI H'CAP - 1000M.

The start was delayed when MENACES proved difficult to load. Trainer B. Winchester was advised that a warning was being placed on that filly. Subsequent to the event, trainer B. Winchester reported that MENACES got its tongue over the bit.

MIGHTY ATALANTA raced greenly in the early stages and shifted out, making contact with LILY'S BABY on 2 occasions.

G. Doughty, rider of AWESOME EDGE, was cautioned for allowing his mount to shift in from the 800m., obliging LILY'S BABY and MIGHTY ATALANTA to be steadied.

LILY'S BABY hung out and raced greenly from the 800m.. LILY'S BABY'S waywardness was brought to the attention of trainer M. Dunn.
A veterinary examination of CHACHACHARISMA, which tailed off, revealed the filly to be moderately shin sore.


RACE 3: TE RAPA H'CAP - 1810M.

M. Lister, who sustained an injury to his right heel and ankle whilst riding ROCKLEA KING in race 3, was stood down by the club's doctor and replaced by G. Doughty on BAY CHOICE, and B. Cooper on PERSIAN ANNE in race 8.


RACE 4: WOODVILLE H'CAP - 1400M.

GRAND CHARIOT jumped away awkwardly and made heavy contact with CHRISTIAN LAD, which in turn contacted DANGEROUS FORTUNE.

GRAND CHARIOT continued to shift in despite the efforts of J. Bryne, resulting in CHRISTIAN LAD being taken in on to DANGEROUS FORTUNE, which clipped the heels of BAY CHOICE 100m. after the start.

The club's veterinary surgeon reported that DANGEROUS FORTUNE had sustained a laceration to the inside of the off cannon.


RACE 5: TRENTHAM H'CAP - 1500M.

Passing the 1200m., ROMANTIC SON commenced to hang out, resulting in CAPTAIN SMOOTH being forced wider on the track. Trainer P. Gollogly was advised that a warning was being placed on ROMANTIC SON with respect to its racing manners.

TOBOLSK brushed MR. MUNDANE at the 350m. when shifting out to obtain clear running. PERISSA BAY, which was following, had to be steadied off the heels of MR. MUNDANE.


RACE 6: ELLERSLIE H'CAP - 1200M.

Following his ride on MELLIERI in race 4, M. Cahill was examined by the club's doctor and advised to forego his remaining engagements. K. Pope was substituted as the rider of JAZZY'S JEWEL and M. Gray as the rider of ROAD TO CAIRO (Race 8).

MIGHTY MCCOOL was slow to begin.

Rounding the home turn, REAL SAY shifted out, tightening BERN RETURN on to JAZZY'S JEWEL.

MIGHTY MCCOOL had difficulty obtaining clear running until approaching the 100m..

A veterinary examination of SAHARA ZED, which performed disappointingly, failed to reveal any abnormality.

A swab sample was taken from the 4th placegetter, MIGHTY MCCOOL.

RACE 7: RICCARTON H'CAP - 1000M.

FERZEPHA was a late scratching at 7.50 a.m..

Just prior to the start being effected, FESTINO became extremely fractious in the barriers, dislodging its rider, J. Felix. FESTINO was subsequently withdrawn by stewards at 4.21 p.m. when the club's veterinary surgeon reported that the gelding had sustained bruising to the loin muscles and near hip. No alteration was made to betting. Trainer S. Simpkins was advised that FESTINO would be required to barrier trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

When attempting to shift out to improve on the home turn, SIGNBAH made contact with MILL PRINCE. In this incident, SIGNBAH struck the heels of PRINCE KWILA on 2 occasions.

As FINE ACTION attempted to take a narrow run between CENTRELARINA and PRINCE KWILA near the 200m., PRINCE KWILA shifted in slightly, taking FINE ACTION on to the hind quarters of CENTRELARINA. A short distance later, MILL PRINCE shifted in slightly under pressure, which resulted in further crowding to PRINCE KWILA and FINE ACTION.



RACE 8: AVONDALE H'CAP - 1300M.

PA RODNEY jumped away awkwardly.

Approaching the 1000m., PERSIAN ANNE had to be steadied off the heels of EL PASEO. JULAGO, which was following, also had to be restrained.



ALL WINNERS, PENNINES AND MIGHTY MCCOOL WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
