WEATHER - OVERCAST TRACK - GOOD/DEAD AFTER R3. RAIL - 10.5M. ALL TRACK
GENERAL: FROM QTC MEETING, 13.3.00 - RACE 6: DULCIFY H'CAP
Stewards today questioned Mr B. Campbell, representative for trainer Mrs G. Waterhouse, regarding the performance of GALLANT PRIDE at the above mentioned meeting. Mr Campbell confirmed the instructions in that the mare was to be ridden in a forward position, however due to circumstances explained by D. Walsh he was unable to do so. He also confirmed that the stable had trialled GALLANT PRIDE in blinkers leading up to the race, but it was not their intention to race the mare in blinkers, as in previous starts in Sydney, it had a tendency to overrace.
RACE 1: LUCKY CLOUD H'CAP - 1200M.
Trainer M. Dux was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for CANADIAN MIST by the required time.
CANADIAN MIST was slow to begin.
Shortly after the start, AQUATAI made contact with MY BLUE FLYER as a result of being momentarily taken in by ROYAL COVET.
After travelling 100m., ROYAL COVET shifted in momentarily tightening AQUATAI, MY BLUE FLYER, and LITTLE MYSTERY.
Near the 1000m., AQUATAI had to be steadied as a result of EN BATEAU shifting in. G. Duffy, rider of EN BATEAU, was instructed to exercise more care in future when shifting ground.
After leaving the 700m., MY BLUE FLYER was inclined to lay out.
J. Felix, rider of MY BLUE FLYER, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 500m. when insufficiently clear of LITTLE MYSTERY, resulting in that filly having to be checked. J. Felix was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to expire at midnight, 29 March 2000. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account J. Felix's good race riding record.
A veterinary examination of MY BLUE FLYER on return to scale revealed the filly to have dislodged a tooth cap.
RACE 2: INNISFREE H'CAP - 1200M.
SUPERBLAST jumped awkwardly and lost ground at the start and was also held up for clear running until near the 200m..
RACE 3: MANAWAPOI H'CAP - 1200M.
DESERT DUKE jumped away awkwardly and came into contact with the hind quarters of BANKONGO, causing that horse to become unbalanced and shift in, contacting FAGAN.
VOLCANIC HURRAH was slow to begin.
After travelling 100m., FAGAN shifted out and made contact with BAKONGO. A short distance later, REGAL GARTER and VINCUM were tightened between HE'S A KWILA and BAKONGO when both horses shifted ground.
When questioned concerning the slackening of the pace near the 900m., B. Cooper explained that she attempted to have DANCING LIMO settle after gaining the lead, however the horse overreacted and dropped the bit. FAGAN, which was following DANCING LIMO, had to be steadied off that horse's heels, resulting in CAGATINA having to be checked off the heels of FAGAN and shift out, causing VOLCANIC HURRAH to be checked and taken wider on the track. TIMBER PRINCE had to be eased away from the heels of VOLCANIC HURRAH in this incident.
Near the 800m., FAGAN was inclined to race ungenerously and had to be steadied off the heels of BAKONGO, which shifted in slightly.
HE'S A KWILA made the crossing awkwardly and shifted wider. HE'S A KWILA attempted to move back to its position racing one wide outside the leader, however DANCING LIMO shifted out abruptly and made heavy contact with HE'S A KWILA. In this incident, REGAL GARTER had to be checked off the heels of HE'S A KWILA to avoid DANCING LIMO when shifting ground. After hearing evidence from all riders and viewing the film, B. Cooper, rider of DANCING LIMO, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground. A short distance later, REGAL GARTER had to be steadied when HE'S A KWILA shifted in.
REGAL GARTER shifted out making the home turn, taking VINCUM wider.
Near the 200m., M. Paget, rider of DIFFERENT REASON, accidentally dropped his whip.
A veterinary examination of HE'S A KWILA following the event revealed the gelding to have been galloped on on the off hind leg.
RACE 4: SIR WISP H'CAP - 2164M.
For some distance after straightening until near the 250m., ARGYLE LASS was held up for clear running.
RACE 5: DANCING POET H'CAP - 1400M.
DRAGONVILLE and RIGIL KENT were both slow to begin.
After travelling a short distance, MONTY'S ROAD commenced to pull hard and was inclined to race fiercely.
C. Reith, rider of SABAI SABAI, accidentally dropped his whip on the home turn.
On straightening, CREATION had to be steadied and alter course when avoiding the heels of LAVROS KNIGHT, which shifted out to improve.
Near the 100m., LAVROS KNIGHT was tightened for room between VERBITO and QUIZZICAL as a result of QUIZZICAL shifting ground under pressure. J. Taylor, rider of QUIZZICAL, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. In this incident LAVROS KNIGHT was accidentally struck across the head by the whip of N. Jolly, rider of VERBITO.
VERBITO and SABAI SABAI were obliged to race wide for the entire race.
RACE 6: MISTER HUSH H'CAP - 1500M.
PERISSA BAY was slow to begin.
Making the first turn, SPY KING, TOPIYM CLONING were hampered when tightened briefly by PELE, which shifted in.
RACE 7: DAYBREAK LOVER H'CAP - 1500M.
On return to scale, a protest was lodged by N. Jolly, rider of the 3rd placegetter, LUNCHTIME LEGEND, against DORZEY being declared the 2nd placegetter, alleging interference inside the 150 metres. After considering all the evidence, the protest was dismissed.
PRESIDENCY jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, hampering UNCLE GWYDIR.
EXCLAIM knuckled over on jumping.
SWAGGART, which made contact with TOTAL POSSESSION at the start, shifted out shortly after, hampering JAY ELL.
UNCLE GWYDIR was caught wide in the early stages and raced wide for the majority of the race.
M. Paget, rider of DORZEY, was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in near the 1000m., causing TOTAL POSSESSION to be tightened for room.
Leaving the 400m., OUTRANK shifted out when not sufficiently clear of EXCLAIM, resulting in EXCLAIM being inconvenienced. M. Cahill, rider of OUTRANK, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
DORZEY shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
RACE 8: SPEDITO H'CAP - 1300M.
TAKE A FLIGHT slipped behind on jumping away and lost ground.
Approaching the 1000m., STATELY ROSE got its head up and was inclined to race ungenerously for some distance thereafter. Also near the 1000m., TOM'S BABY, when steadied off the heels of KIMBLE, shifted out, taking COUNTERSHOT wider.
TAKE A FLIGHT was held up for some distance rounding the home turn.
M. Cahill, rider of GRUMANS, was fined $100 for returning to scale in excess of half a kilogram over his declared riding weight.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
