WEATHER – FINE TRACK - DEAD RAIL - OUT 9M ALL TRACK

RACE 1: MOLLY’S ROBE H'CAP - 1200M

QUEENS ARMS, which was kicked behind the barriers, was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

After travelling a short distance ADMIRAL’S LASS was tightened between ZANDE and HILLBILLY EXPRESS, both of which shifted ground.

After leaving the 200m, PIANO LADY was hampered as a result of ZANDE shifting out to improve.

Near the finishing line, G Duffy was obliged to stop riding ZANDE due to it having a tendency to shift in.

RACE 2: HOURLY H'CAP - 1200M

Shortly after the start POWER AND EGO was tightened between LEGAL OPINION and CHIP OFF THE BLOCK.

After making the first turn and for some distance in the middle stages BE STRONG, which was inclined to race ungenerously, had to be steadied off the heels of RINGELING on several occasions.

When attempting to improve inside the 400m, BE STRONG was impeded for some distance as a result of being tightened between AESOPS FABLES and POWER AND EGO when both horses shifted ground marginally.

RACE 3: SEVEN FIFTY H'CAP - 1400M

Approaching the 1000m DUSTY CHIEF commenced to overrace and had to be steadied off the heels of QUIZZICAL.

After leaving the 1000m CRIMEWAVE was inclined to race ungenerously and shifted out.

Near the 800m CRIMEWAVE, when caught wide, shifted in momentarily, resulting in DONBRODI being tightened and hampering DUSTY CHIEF.

CRIMEWAVE was obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.

RACE 4: BLUE SLIPPER H'CAP - 1846M

In the middle stages ARBSCAY was inclined to overrace and near the 1200m had to be steadied off the heels of SNAPPY HULA.

Connections of BUGATTI were questioned concerning the seemingly disappointing performance of the horse which raced under pressure from the 600m and finished near the rear of the field. Trainer’s representative Mr G Doyle informed stewards that following the race he had contacted the trainer who was absent from the meeting and it was the intention of the connections that the horse be spelled as it may have come to the end of its current preparation. A veterinary examination of BUGATTI was ordered and no abnormalities were detected at the time of examination. A swab sample was taken from the horse.

RACE 5: HE’LL DO H'CAP - 1500M

EXCLAIM shifted out at the start and hampered SILVERMINE BAY.

In the early stages of the straight EXCLAIM was held up for clear running.

RACE 6: PLANET RULER H'CAP - 1400M

PERISSA BAY and ANGEL OF DARKNESS were slow to jump.

After passing the 1000m PELE had to be steadied to avoid the heels of CLONING and shifted out, contacting the hind quarters of FOREIGN MINISTER.

C Maund, the rider of FOREIGN MINISTER, accidentally dropped his whip approaching the 200m.

RACE 7: EARLWOOD H'CAP - 1300M

N Jolly, who was stood down from remaining engagements by the Club’s medical officer, was replaced as follows:

Race 7 RENFREW J Taylor
Race 8 SEYMOUR J Pollard

GOLDEN AWARD, which was fractious in the barriers, was slow to jump.

JOLTIN JOE and LUKE’S LOOT were slow to begin.

After passing the 1000m GOLDEN AWARD, which commenced to pull hard, shifted out and made contact with GRISMA. Shortly after, GOLDEN AWARD, when unbalanced, shifted in and made heavy contact with the running rail. GOLDEN AWARD continued to pull hard for some distance after this incident and rounding the home turn shifted wider on the track to improve, forcing GRISMA out on to LUKE’S LOOT. A Russell, the rider of GOLDEN AWARD, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

Near the 200m KARNATAKA was momentarily held up behind the heels of SUPPLE.

When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of GOLDEN AWARD, trainer K Wood explained that the horse, which was having its first run from a lengthy spell, may not have been suited by the prevailing track. A veterinary examination of GOLDEN AWARD revealed no abnormalities and a swab sample was taken from the horse.

RACE 8: FLYING ACE H'CAP - 1300M

KUAKA QUEEN shifted in and made heavy contact with VOWORANA at the start. A short distance later SWAPSEA shifted in and contacted the hind quarters of KUAKA QUEEN, unbalancing that horse.

After passing the 1000m TOAST A LADY, which was pulling hard, had to be steadied off the heels of SERINSK and shifted out taking SEYMOUR wider.

Near the 200m KUAKA QUEEN shifted in and made contact with VOWORANA.

ALL WINNERS, BUGATTI AND GOLDEN AWARD WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
