WEATHER - FINE TRACK - DEAD RAIL - OUT 6M. ALL TRACK
GENERAL: Apprentice C. Maund was fined $50 for failing to fulfil his riding engagement on ENA'S TREASURE at the QTC meeting on Saturday, 22 April due to being overweight.
As. N. Jolly was indisposed, the following replacements were approved: Race 2. RIVER REACH - J. Byrne; Race 4. BOSUN'S PIPER - L. Harris; Race 7. BLAZING TAAN - G. Colless.
RACE 1: XXXX BITTER H'CAP - 1400M.
Trainer D. Newham was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for GENTEEL BOY by the required time.
A veterinary examination of SUPERIOR RED at the barriers revealed blood in its mount as a result of a dislodged tooth cap. The gelding was passed the gelding fit to start.
Passing the 1000m., OUR PARTNER got its head up and raced ungenerously when being restrained by its rider.
A veterinary examination of NO OPTION, which compounded in the straight, failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 2: COCKATOO RIDGE H'CAP - 1200M.
EMPIRIC dwelt slightly at the start.
OUTBREAK was unable to obtain clear running until near the 100m..
N. Evans, rider of OUT BREAK, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he allowed his mount to shift in at the 1000m. when insufficiently clear of RIVER REACH, resulting in that gelding having to be checked. N. Evans was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 27 April, and to expire at midnight, 10 May 2000.
RACE 3: CITYTRAIN H'CAP - 2136M.
REDINBURGH and SUPER REVENIR were both slow to begin.
KAZAKH BELLE raced ungenerously throughout the middle stages.
A veterinary examination of HANCOCK, which tailed off, revealed that gelding to be suffering from heart arrhythmia. Trainer A. Marshall was advised that HANCOCK must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to its next race start, and that he must produce a veterinary clearance, including the results of an ECG for the gelding.
RACE 4: YOUNG MEMBERS H'CAP - 1200M.
The start was delayed when EMINENT CHEVAL proved difficult to load. Stable representative Mr Melton was advised that EMINENT CHEVAL must pass a further barrier test prior to its next race start.
EDUARDO jumped away awkwardly.
MADISON jumped outwards at the start, severely hampering ROOFTOP FLYER and also causing some inconvenience to YORUBA.
Approaching the 1000m., INSIDER TRADING had to be checked when reluctant to hold its position when cramped for room between YORUBA and TOMO'S PRIDE, which shifted out slightly. ROOFTOP FLYER, which was following, shifted out abruptly off the heels of INSIDER TRADING.
A short distance later, YORUBA also shifted out, resulting in BOSUN'S PIPER being checked.
RED AQUILLA tendered to overrace in the middle stages.
RACE 5: INTERFORMS H'CAP - 1600M.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of DESERT PHOENIX, A. Cowie indicated that the gelding overraced in the early stages and refused to settle.. He added though that DESERT PHOENIX eventually travelled more generously in the lead however was a beaten horse on the home turn. Neither he nor trainer B. Laming were able to provide any reasons for the gelding's poor performance.
Trainer Laming advised that whist DESERT PHOENIX had been a difficult horse to train, he was nonetheless most disappointed with its failure to show any fight in the straight. Mr Laming undertook to report back to the stewards if any abnormality became apparent which might explain the horse's performance. The club's veterinary surgeon advised that he was unable to detect any abnormality when the horse was examined immediately after the race. A swab sample was collected from DESERT PHOENIX.
RACE 6: HAHN PREMIUM H'CAP - 1200M.
CENTRE FORCE was slow to begin.
MELLIERI also begin awkwardly.
Rounding the home turn and then until the 300m., MELLIERI was held up and unable to improve.
CENTRE FORCE was badly held up for a run until the 100m..
Over the concluding stages, J. Stanley, rider of the 5th placegetter SPY KING, was obliged to stop riding due to PIONEER drifting out.
RACE 7: XXXX BREWMASTERS CLUB H'CAP - 1500M.
BLAZING TAAN was forced to race wide in the early and middle stages.
Just prior to the 200m., PAUL'S FOLLY had to be checked when disappointed for a run inside the tiring MULTIMEDIA. J. Baker, rider of PAUL'S FOLLY, was reprimanded for endeavouring to take a run where there was insufficient room.
After initially being taken in by TEST RUN approaching the 50m., SUPER DANE had to be severely checked after clipping the heels of ROULETTE, which shifted out. Whilst it was established that both J. Stanley, rider of ROULETTE, and M. Cahill, rider of TEST RUN had stopped riding with the whip, both riders were severely reprimanded for failing to make a greater endeavour to keep their mounts on a straight course..
RACE 8: CITY ROWERS H'CAP - 1300M.
INDIGO GREY was slow to begin.
CELESTIAL SPRINTER was hampered at the start when tightened for room between SO RADICAL and MEGA JET, which jumped away awkwardly.
At the 1200m., JOLTIN JOE, when being steadied off the heels of SO RADICAL, shifted out and made contact with DARK CHARIOT.
CELESTIAL SPRINTER was inclined to overrace in the early and middle stages.
When ridden with the whip inside the 200m., FRISKY STAR faltered and then veered out abruptly towards the outside, losing ground. Trainer J. Fitzgerald advised that FRISKY STAR would be required to perform satisfactorily before stewards in an official trial prior to its next race start.
J. Byrne, rider of JOLTIN JOE, was fined $50 for weighing in in excess of half a kilogram over his declared riding weight.
J. Stanley, rider of INDIGO GREY, was reprimanded for weighing in in excess of half a kilogram overweight.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
