WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - TRUE POSITION
RACE 1: BILL STANLEY H'CAP - 1200M.
As G. Duffy was indisposed, M. Cahill was substituted as the rider of ANNABELLE'S PRIDE, and L. Hill as the rider of ROYAL ASSASSIN (Race 3) and EMERALD ZOFF (Race 7).
No racing incidents.
A veterinary examination of DANE BEAUTY, which compounded badly in the straight, failed to reveal any abnormality. A swab sample was taken from DANE BEAUTY.
RACE 2: JIM CLARK H'CAP - 1200M.
Whilst mounting in the enclosure, WISELINK reared up, striking its rider, D. Griffin, in the face. Due to a laceration sustained above his right eye. D. Griffin was temporarily indisposed and replaced on WISELINK by D. Wheeler. D. Griffin was passed to ride later in the afternoon.
BIRA was slow to begin.
STRIKES TWICE hung in in the middle stages.
Under pressure approaching the 200m., MINER was inclined to lay in onto WISELINK, causing both horses to become unbalanced.
When questioned regarding his ride on MINER, A. Morrison stated he had flexible instructions with an option of either leading if there was no early speed or taking a sit if a genuine leader presented itself in the event. He stated that MINER showed good pace to the first turn to the extent where he was confident the gelding was going to assume the lead, however WISELINK eventually improved through to that horse's inside to maintain the lead. He further added through the middle stages his tactics were thwarted by the rider of WISELINK and as a consequence the chances of both horses were affected.
RACE 3: QUEENSLAND H'CAP - 1400M.
As T. Pattillo was indisposed, W.J. Cook was substituted as the rider of CLEMENTINA.
I COVET jumped inwards at the start onto ZINA ZULU,which in turn hampered MANDINKA.
Passing the 800m., ROYAL ASSASSIN ran up on to the heels of SHELLY and had to be restrained.
At the 700m., ROYAL ASSASSIN again had to be checked when the gelding improved to the inside of SHELLY where there was insufficient room.
VALLOTA commenced to hang out after leaving the 1000m., and approaching the 600m. crossing, shifted out further hampering TILLY'S PLACE. Trainer J. Hannah was advised that a warning was being placed on VALLOTA with respect to its racing manners.
MR. ALERT, POSCOH and CELESTIAL DUST were all obliged to race wide throughout the middle stages.
ZINA ZULU had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.
When placed under pressure at the 300m., MR. ALERT shifted in, inconveniencing GOLD HAUL. GOLD HAUL then had difficulty obtaining clear running.
A. Erhart, rider of the second placegetter, MR. ALERT, was cautioned for allowing his mount to shift in under pressure at the 50m., resulting in ROYAL ASSASSIN being momentarily steadied.
A veterinary examination of TILLY'S PLACE, which compounded badly over the final 200m., failed to reveal any abnormality, and a swab sample was taken from that mare.
RACE 4: HENRY THOMPSON H'CAP - 1800M.
DRUTHER'S OPTION was a late scratching at 12.35 on veterinary advice.
No incidents.
RACE 5: JACK DELANEY H'CAP - 1000M.
FLY BUYS jumped away awkwardly.
VALITY jumped outwards at the start, resulting in ROYAL PHANTOM, which had been a little slow to begin, losing further ground when tightened onto HARD BID.
L. Hill, rider of CONDUCT, was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in at the 800m. when not clear of LORD KARIOI, resulting in LORD KARIOI losing ground when taken in on to ROYAL PHANTOM, which in turn was cramped for racing room
RACE 6: QTC COUNTY CUP - 1400M.
Due to a misunderstanding, A. Pattillo was unable to take his mount on SHAREEF ROCKET. A. Baker was substituted.
DISSENT and KAORU QUEEN were both slow to begin.
TWISTED and AUSSIE MORNING bumped heavily at the start.
When shifting in to obtain a position closer to the fence at the 1250m., MISTER SWIFT struck the heels of CELESTIAL IMPACT and lost ground.
Passing the 1000m., DOCTOR STAINLESS had to be steadied after being momentarily cramped for room by TONOSAMA.
SCENIC FLIGHT made the 600m. crossing awkwardly.
When attempting to take a run where there was insufficient room between TEMPEL TUTTLE and VIENNA BLAZE at the 250m., FLYING FEATHERS had to be steadied.
At the 200m., CELESTIAL IMPACT had to be checked when disappointed for a run between MY TUDOR ROSE and PINKY THE PAINTER, which shifted in off the heels of CRAIGLEA DEVIL, and a short distance later, KAORU QUEEN shifted out under pressure, inconveniencing MY TUDOR ROSE and CELESTIAL IMPACT.
At the 150m., FLYING FEATHERS shifted out around the heels of VIENNA BLAZE and hampered TEMPEL TUTTLE.
A. Merritt, rider of FLYING FEATHERS, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift in under pressure over the final 50m., resulting in VIENNA BLAZE and DISSENT being severely crowded for racing room. A. Merritt was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 20 August, and to expire at midnight, 3 September 2000.
RACE 7: GORDON ADNAM H'CAP - 1500M.
FIELD GOAL was slow to begin.
For some distance after straightening, EMERALD ZOFF and BROOKLET BOY made contact as EMERALD ZOFF attempted to obtain clear running.
L. Hill, rider of EMERALD ZOFF, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that leaving the 300m., he permitted his mount to shift out from behind POCKET MY PRIDE to obtain clear running, causing BROOKLET BOY to be checked when tightened onto to MOUGI. L. Hill was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight Saturday, 19 August, and to expire at midnight, 31 August 2000.
RACE 8: BILL EDWARDS H'CAP - 1500M.
S. Shield, rider of the unplaced POMME DE TERRE, was fined $100 for weighing in in excess of half a kilogram over his declared weight.
Leaving the 400m., ADJACENT shifted in and made contact with TURNERZ.
TURNERZ and ADJACENT again made contact prior to the 200m..
ALL WINNERS, DANE BEAUTY AND TILLY'S PLACE WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
