QLD TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT.17.2.01

WEATHER - OVERCAST TRACK - GOOD RAIL - OUT 5.5M. ALL TRACK


RACE 1: PARCEL POST H'CAP - 1400M.

ANGELAH MOON was slow to begin.

SAFETY PINS jumped awkwardly and made contact with OPAL ICE.

SAFETY PINS was unable to obtain clear running over the final 200m..

A veterinary examination of BOSTON, which failed to run on after being obliged to race wide, failed to reveal any abnormality. N. Tomizawa reported that BOSTON tended to overrace when racing without cover in the early and middle stages.


RACE 2: TATTERSALL'S H'CAP - 2234M.

ANCORA FILA tended to overrace for some distance approaching the 1300m..

Rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight, PLACID REIGN was held up and unable to improve.

A veterinary examination of BEAR RAID, which performed disappointingly, failed to reveal any abnormality. A swab sample was taken from the gelding. When questioned, S. Galloway stated he was forced to apply some pressure to BEAR RAID when the pace quickened from the 700m., however soon afterwards, HONOURABLY was able to shift away from the rail and force his mount outwards without any difficulty. S. Galloway further advised that BEAR RAID did not respond to his riding thereafter and failed to stretch out. Stable foreman Mr B. Hill was unable to shed any light on BEAR RAID'S performance and indicated that the horse had pleased the stable in preparation for today's event. Mr Hill was requested to ensure that stewards were notified regarding BEAR RAID'S progress following the event and if any abnormality became apparent.


RACE 3: CITY ROWERS SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 2134M.

As the start was effected, MAGIC OF MACKAY refused to leave the barriers and eventually reared up, dislodging its rider, A. Merritt, who sustained no apparent injury. Trainer R. Lipp was advised that MAGIC OF MACKAY must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to its next race start.

On the first turn, BRAVE HAWK had to be restrained when momentarily cramped for room by AL TERZO.

Leaving the 1700m., BRAVE HAWK commenced to overrace and soon afterwards shifted out abruptly, forcing GREAT SCOTT wider on the track. J. Byrne reported that BRAVE HAWK was then inclined to hang out for the majority of the event.



RACE 4: EXPRESS POST H'CAP - 1000M.

Subsequent to the event, SCHUMANN was found to have bled from both nostrils. SCHUMANN will incur the mandatory 3 month ban from racing.



RACE 5: BUSINESS POST SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1200M.

Soon after the start, JUST A BELIEVER lost ground when cramped for room between I'M A WARRIOR and OUR GIRL DAWN.

JUST A BELIEVER was again hampered approaching the 1000m. by ACTION FRONT, which shifted in.

Passing the 1000m., READY TO REV contacted the running rail when momentarily tightened for room by FLYING DOUBT, which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.

WHEELAWAY raced greenly rounding the first turn.

CAPTAIN CENTREFOLD was inclined to hang out throughout the event and compounded badly in the straight. The club's veterinary surgeon reported that the filly was sore in the off foreleg. Trainer R. Wills was advised that CAPTAIN CENTREFOLD would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start and, moreover, she would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for the filly.

J. Taylor, rider of the 6th placegetter, WHEELAWAY, was fined $50 for excessive use of the whip on a horse showing no response.

A veterinary examination of OUR GIRL DAWN, which compounded in the straight, failed to reveal any abnormality.


RACE 6: FOSTER'S COUNTRY CUP - 1200M.

MANAKWILA was slow to begin.

SO LIKE BEAU was held up for clear running until after passing the 200m..


RACE 7: AUSTRALIAN POST CUP - 1600M.

PYFO returned to the enclosure with blood in its mouth as a result of a laceration to the upper gum.

PYFO raced ungenerously in the early stages when caught wide.

S. Katisidis was cautioned for the manner in which he angled out on his mount, STARTELL, at the 500m., resulting in STARTELL bumping MORINGA'S MANDRAKE, which in turn forced PYFO wider on the track.

S. Galloway, rider of SILENT ASSASIN, accidentally dropped his whip at the top of the straight.

DASHING IMAGE was held up for clear running until after passing the 200m..

FORGOTTEN HERO also had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.

A. Morrison, rider of the 4th placegetter, TURF KING, was fined $200 for weighing in half a kilogram in excess of his declared riding weight.


RACE 8: INTERFORMS PRINTING H'CAP - 1200M.

Trainer P. Nolan, representing M. Nolan, trainer of BOLDON, was fined $50 for negligence in that he collected the saddle and associated gear from S. Galloway, rider of KARPANDA, in lieu of G. Colless, who was the declared rider of BOLDON.

Approaching the first turn, HABITATIS had to be steadied off the heels of BLACKLOCK, which shifted in.

D. Crossland, rider of FRA OMEGA, accidentally dropped his whip at the 300m..
