RACE 1: SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1400M.
The start was delayed when all efforts to load DE CANNY failed. DE CANNY was declared a late withdrawal at 12.21 p.m. acting on the advice of the starter. On the announcement of correct weight, stewards ordered all monies invested on DECANNY be refunded, with deductions of 12 cents in the dollar on the face value of successful win and place bets place prior to the withdrawal time. Trainer B. McLachlan was advised that DE CANNY must pass a barrier test prior to its next race start.
ANOTHER WARRIOR was slow to begin.

Trainer A. Denham was fined $25 for presenting GELIGNITE JACK without blinkers.
A swab sample was taken from the unplaced IT'S GRAND.
When questioned, G. Colless was unable to shed any light on the performance of THE EXPAT, which weakened noticeably over the concluding stages. He advised that he could detect nothing amiss with the horse upon pulling up. This was confirmed by the club's veterinary surgeon, who reported that he could find no abnormality with The Expat.
A veterinary examination of PANSY revealed the filly to have sustained a laceration to the outside of the near fore cannon.
RACE 3: ERIC KAY H'CAP - 1400M.
As C. Maund was to be half a kilogram overweight, stewards ruled that he be replaced as the rider of MORINGA'S MANDRAKE. G. Geran was substituted as the rider of that horse.
SEA HARVEY commenced to hang out near the 1000m. and ran wide from the 600m. crossing. Given that the gelding had hung out at its previous start at Doomben on 7 April, trainer G. Newham was advised that SEA HARVEY would be required to pass 2 official barrier trials prior to being permitted to start again. SEA HARVEY lost its off fore plate in running.
MELLIERI overraced when being restrained off the heels of BAGOLINO on the first turn.
RACE 4: GIRL IN A MILLION H'CAP - 1800M.
G. Geran, rider of AULD HAT, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 1600m. when insufficiently clear of PARTY KING, causing that gelding being taken inwards towards the running rail, resulting in PRINCE STARLIGHT having to be checked. G. Geran was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 9 meetings, to commence at midnight, 7 May, and to expire at midnight, 21 May 2001.
RACE 5: SIR BYRNE HART STAKES - 1400M.
Soon after the start, PIMPALA PRINCE was cramped for room by STARTELL, which in turn was taken in by ROULETTE.
Approaching the finish line, ROULETTE was inconvenienced when CAMARENA shifted in slightly under pressure.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MATTER OF HONOUR, L. Cassidy stated that the horse tended to race too hard in the early stages and his chances were not helped initially when MALTESE BEAUTY challenged him in the lead. He further added that the horse, as a result of racing too keenly, was left without any finishing effort. Trainer P. Perry endorsed the comments of rider L. Cassidy and immediately requested permission to remove the blinkers from MATTER OF HONOUR at that horse's next race start. Stewards acceded to that request. He also added that MATTER OF HONOUR was a gross horse which obviously required more solid racing to bring him to his absolute peak. A veterinary examination of MATTER OF HONOUR failed to reveal any abnormality. and a swab sample was subsequently taken from the stallion.
RACE 6: GREENSLOPES PRIVATE HOSPITAL QUEENSLAND GUINEAS SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES - 1600M.
Trainers G. Heinrich and G. Stewart were both fined $50 for failing to declare riders for MINER'S UNION and FEED THE METER respectively by the required time.
LORD HOBBITT shifted out at the start, resulting in IN SINGAPORE and HEROISM bumping heavily.
IN SINGAPORE had to be steadied off the heels of YORUBA, which shifted in at the 1400m..
When the pace slackened at the 1200m., YORUBA raced up on to the heels of PIMPALA PLAYER and shifted out, making contact with DANDIFY. IN SINGAPORE and COUSTEAU, which were following, also had to be restrained at this stage.
After being held up and unable to improve on the home turn, DE GAULLE was again impeded for a run between DANDIFY and BRAVE HAWK between the 300m. and 250m..
A veterinary examination of BRAVE HAWK following the event revealed the colt had sustained a strained near fore suspensory ligament.
RACE 7: RAMSAY HEALTH CARE H'CAP - 1800M.
In the middle stages, FRONT ROW was inclined to hang in and as a consequence brushed the running rail.
Approaching the 550m., the leader FRONT ROW broke down and fell, dislodging its rider, S. Katisidis. The club's veterinary surgeon reported that FRONT ROW had broken its off shoulder and was euthanased on humane grounds. A preliminary reported indicated that S. Katsidis had suffered a degree of bruising. When FRONT ROW fell, all remaining runners were hampered to some degree, particularly FIGURANTE, which had to be severely checked and was obliged to shift out abruptly, and NED'S REVENGE, MR SMUGG and ZACUSHLA, which were checked.
RACE 8: GREENSLOPES EMERGENCY CENTRE H'CAP - 1600M.
S. Katsidis, who was injured in race 7, was unable to fulfil his engagement on LUXURY RIDE and was replaced by L. Cassidy.,
JUST GUS was unable to be loaded and was withdrawn acting on the veterinary advice of the starter.
