WEATHER - OVERCAST TRACK - GOOD RAIL - OUT 11M. ALL TRACK
RACE 1: HEAVEN NIGHTCLUB SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1400M.
B. Laming was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for HAPPY OH DAY by the required time.
Due to a clerical error, J. Taylor was notified late as the rider of HAPPY OH DAY.
A veterinary examination of MAID GOOD at the barriers found the horse suitable to race.
SHEPHERD'S LIL jumped awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with MR. CONNOLLY.
REGENT STREET, which jumped inwards striking the barrier partition, lost ground at the start.
MATTHEW JAMES was inclined to overrace rounding the first turn.
Near the 700m., THESPIAN PRINCE, which was racing ungenerously, had to be restrained off the heels of MATTHEW JAMES.
REGENT STREET blundered when it made the crossing at the 600m. awkwardly.
Approaching the home turn, MATTHEW JAMES was inclined to lay in and made contact with SURR STYLE.
Rounding the home turn, THESPIAN PRINCE, which was racing greenly, ran up on to the heels of MR. CONNOLLY and made contact with that horse. THESPIAN PRINCE then shifted out abruptly, forcing MAID GOOD to be checked and taken across the heels of REGENT STREET.
For some distance rounding the home turn and in the straight, EMERALD ZEEL was held up for clear running.
J. Byrne reported that REGENT STREET was inclined to race ungenerously approaching the first turn and that the horse made the crossing at the 600m. awkwardly. It was also noted that shortly after straightening, REGENT STREET had a tendency to lay in.
The club's veterinary surgeon reported that MATTHEW JAMES had sustained a laceration to the near fore cannon.
A veterinary examination of MR. CONNOLLY revealed the colt had been galloped on above the near hock and had sustained multiple lacerations to the off hind in the region of the fetlock.
RACE 2: FREERS CHIPS H'CAP - 2233M.
CROSS WORDS jumped awkwardly.
OUT YONDER and CROSS WORDS were both inclined to overrace in the early and middle stages.
Approaching the crossing, OUT YONDER had to be restrained from taking a run inside of MAJESTIC HEIGHTS where there was insufficient room.
OUT YONDER was then held up for clear running on the home turn and, when attempting to improve after straightening, had to be eased away from the heels of MAJESTIC HEIGHTS.
MR. GRASSHOPPER was accidentally struck over the head by the whip of M. Cahill (MIGHTY LONGREACH) on a number of occasions in the vicinity of the 200m..
PRAYDO bled from both nostrils during the event. Trainer Doug Duryea was advised that PRAYDO would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months. A swab sample was taken from PRAYDO.
RACE 3: NORTH LAKES H'CAP - 1500M.
J. Stanley, who was stood down by the club's doctor after riding MAJESTIC HEIGHTS in race 2, was replaced by A. Cowie as the rider of INCESSANT NAG, B. Stewart, as the rider of BOLD PROSPECT (Race 5), and A. Cowie as the rider of SIDE BET.
JUST MACCA, which bolted for a short distance during the preliminary, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed suitable to race.
PRISCILLA jumped awkwardly.
EXECUTIVE CLASS was inclined to race ungenerously when being steadied off the heels of HOLLY'S SHADOW approaching the 1000m..
MAKES ME DIZZY commenced to hang out after leaving the crossing and continued to do so making the home turn wide on the track. A veterinary examination of MAKES ME DIZZY following the event revealed the filly to have a small laceration to the inside of the off cheek. Trainer F. Thomas was advised that MAKES ME DIZZY would be ineligible to race again until it performed satisfactorily in a official trial.
G. Killen, rider of THE BUDERIM BANDIT, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that he angled his mount out approaching the 300m. when insufficiently clear of NOELEPPE, causing that horse to be inconvenienced and taken out on to ULTIMATUM, which in turn was taken out on to BORN CHIC, causing that horse to be checked. As a result of this incident, EXCUTIVE CLASS, which was racing to the outside of BORN CHIC, was hampered. G. Killen was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 23 May, and to expire at midnight, 1 June 2001.
IT'S GRAND, which haemorrhaged from both nostrils during the event, will be declared ineligible to race for a period of 3 months. A swab sample was taken from IT'S GRAND.
RACE 4: GOLD COAST INTERNATIONAL HOTEL H'CAP - 1000M.
Due to a clerical error, J. Byrne was notified as the rider of MOW DOWN when M. Pelling was in fact the rider of that gelding.
VANQUEUR had a tendency to lay in when steadied approaching the 600m. crossing and then made the crossing awkwardly and lost its position.
VANQUEUR was momentarily held up rounding the home turn.
IVORY ROAD was held up for clear running shortly after entering the straight until after passing the 200m..
RACE 5: KEDRON -WAVELL SERVICES CLUB H'CAP - 1200M.
DAPPLE VIEW was slow to jump.
GLADMAC, which was also slow to jump, was tightened for room shortly after the start between EL CARTERO and ARTIQUE when both horses shifted ground.
Leaving the 800m., DAPPLE VIEW was momentarily tightened by JEWEL OF THE NIGHT, which was inclined to shift in and away from GLADMAC.
When questioned concerning the seemingly disappointing performance of GLADMAC, S. Seamer explained that after being checked and losing ground at the start, the horse commenced to travel well approaching the first turn and he elected to track EL CARTERO forward, however after leaving the 800m. as the pace eased, GLADMAC commenced to overrace and continued to overrace for some distance and did not finish the race off as expected. A veterinary examination of GLADMAC failed to reveal any abnormality and a swab sample was taken from the gelding.
An inquiry was held into the seemingly improved performance of RAMSTADIUS in winning today as compared to the horse's previous start when the horse finished 10th at Eagle Farm on 5 May. A. Bailey was also questioned regarding the variation in tactics on RAMSTADIUS today as compared to the race on 5 May where the horse settled worse than midfield. A. Bailey explained that S. Galloway was instructed to ride the horse just off the pace in the race over 1400m. at Eagle Farm on 5 May, however after easing the horse at the start, other runners progressed forward and the horse settled worse than midfield. He explained that due to the pattern of the race, S. Galloway may have been a victim of circumstances in regards to the horse being placed worse than midfield. Mr Bailey further explained that in today's race it was intended that the horse again be ridden just off the pace over the 1200m., however G. Colless reported to him that due to the horse beginning well and commencing to pull, he elected to allow the horse to stride to the lead where he was not seriously challenged. The explanation was noted.
RACE 6: DOME & BAR & GRIL H'CAP - 1600M.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of IN SINGAPORE, trainer S. Jones confirmed his disappointment in the horse's performance today and indicated that the horse would be spelled immediately. A veterinary examination of IN SINGAPORE failed to reveal any abnormality and a swab sample was taken.
RACE 7: SHELL LIVE WIRE H'CAP - 1400M.
D. Craven, who was ill, was replaced by S. Shield on SERGRIS.
K. Pope replaced B. Stewart as the rider of MISS PFEIFFER due to B. Stewart having motor vehicle difficulties travelling to the racecourse.
CELESTIAL SPRINTER shifted out at the start, taking BUCKRIDGE out on to HAGAR THE HORRIBLE and BASS STRAIGHT.
Making the 1000m. turn, SHADING struck the running rail when racing in restricted room inside GONDOLA.
Approaching the 600m. crossing, SERGRIS, which was pulling hard, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SHADING and shifted out, taking VATULELE and HIMALAYA FALCON wider. BUCKRIDGE, which commenced to improve up on the inside of SERGRIS, had to be steadied and became unbalanced when steadied off the heels of SERGRIS, which shifted in marginally.
Shortly after straightening, VATULELE attempted to take a run inside of HIMALAYA FALCON where there was not fully sufficient room, became unbalanced and had to be steadied.
SERGRIS had difficulty obtaining clear running from the entrance to the straight until inside the 100m..
ZEALY LAD had difficulty obtaining clear running after straightening until inside the 200m..
When questioned concerning the seemingly disappointing performance of SUNSET, trainer A. Bailey was at a loss to explain the performance as the horse had pleased him in its preparation for its race today which was its first run since January. A veterinary examination of SUNSET failed to reveal any abnormality. Mr Bailey was requested to inform stewards of anything which may come to his attention following the race that may have had any bearing on the mare's disappointing performance.
A veterinary examination of SHADING revealed the mare to have been galloped on on the near hind heel and off hind fetlock.
RACE 8: AUSTRAL HONDA H'CAP - 1400M.
Passing the 800m., SIDE BET had to be restrained off the heels of HELEN'S HONEY. STYLE QUEEN,which was following, had to be steadied.
LINEA was badly held up for clear running on straightening until near the 200m..
ALL WINNERS, GLADMAC, PRAYDO, IN SINGAPORE AND IT'S GRAND WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
